Out of the Past (1947)

Jacques Tourneur directs two of my all-time favorite actors Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas in this amazing noir classic... and somehow Jane Greer steals the show as the ultimate femme fatale. Her performance is simply brilliant as a survive-at-any-cost, beauty who manipulates, lies and murders her way through life and still really believes that it isn't her fault. Stunning cinematography, awesome locations, plot twists a-plenty and more tough-guy dialog than you can shake a stick at make this one a must-see for fans of noir thrillers.

Great movie, in every way.

Jacques has this crazy sense for atmosphere, and lays it on thick as could be.
His collaborations with Val Lewton are unbelievable.

Willard.

I first thought this was a old school movie, I did hear it was a remake or something.
Pretty good, actually scared the crap outta me at one stage cos "socreties"(??) reminds me of my lil girl munchkin, except she isn't as trained as that rat was.

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" 4/10

The worst so far.

Found the story dull and all the "young" characters annoying.

"Simpsons - the movie" 6/10

One question.

Why did they make this movie?

jenna26 08-13-2007 09:37 AM

2001 Maniacs ~ worth watching if only for Robert Englund's over the top performance......completely ridiculous......:p Still haven't seen the original film.

Hellraiser: Deader ~ Not really much of a Hellraiser movie, but again, better than expected.

Road to Perdition ~ love this movie, though it is a bit slow, I suppose.

Overnight

Having seen this documentary several times I am still struck by the sheer idiocy and mania of the subject, Troy Duffy. For those of you who don't know, Troy Duffy was the overnight sensation who wrote Boondock Saints and sold it to Miramax for a cool $1Million + the bar he was working in...that's right, Miramax threw in the deed to the bar! He then wormed his way into directing the film and secured a huge recording contract for his band "The Brood".

Then he pissed it all away.

The film is a case study of paranoid maniac being indulged until no one can take it anymore. He pisses off everyone around him and sinks his career while trying to control every tiny aspect of everything around him...all the time thinking his shit don't stink and everyone else on the planet is an idiot deserving his derision.

The doc is not great. It's hardly Errol Morris quality, but the story and subject are truly one of a kind.

ANYONE wanting to work in Hollywood needs to see this film. It should be required viewing in all film schools.

Wild Hogs. John McGinley could have had a bigger part, but cool movie.

So I actually watched The Descent last night and I think it may just be my new favourite. Very well done and made me quite jumpy. I thought it was a very fun movie :)

Go watch it if you haven't.

Pretty much. I liked the Special Edition ones just for the fact that it had slightly better graphics on the ships and a few of the characters. Other than that, the original versions were better.

I didn't really care for this movie, but maybe it's because I feel safer in small places.

The Simpsons Movie-My new favorite movie, all the years I've loved Simpsons, all the merchandise, the movie could be a close-up of Homer's balls for 4 hours and it would still be my favorite.

Viva La Bart!

Silent Hill
I do enjoy the games but the movie was so-so. (5/10)

The Skeleton Key
Not quite my cup of tea. Quite boring actualy (5/10)

The Exorcist II
This one i did like. But i don't think of it as a horror film,it's almost like a drama movie.. (7/10)

Despare 08-14-2007 08:22 PM

Big Nothing - Not a bad little dark comedy, killer soundtrack too.

Hard Boiled - I don't need to say much about this one...

alkytrio666 08-14-2007 08:39 PM

Boxcar Bertha (1972)

The asshole of Scorsese's career. Awful.

James Bond series started last night at my home...

Dr. No - Stylish and suave. Sean Connery made the perfect Bond from the word go. And Ursula Andress in her by-now-famous-Bond-scene was awesome as the fiery blonde goddess rising from the sea. Excellent entertainer.

From Russia With Love - Its a shame Daniela Bianchi didnt go on to star in more movies...or she would have been a BIG star. With killer looks and oozing sensuality, this was one gal who would have knocked the socks off the best in Hollywood. The movie was great in itself, with the train adventure being relentless till the final boat chase sequence. Good stuff.

Finally bought Casino Royale
Loved it the first time, again the second.
It's so good to finally see the Bond of the books represented more accurately.
Cold, man, cold...
Can't wait for the fresh franchise to take off.

jenna26 08-15-2007 08:23 AM

The Cavern ~ maybe if I hadn't seen The Descent, I wouldn't have been so disgusted with this one.......;) I think the ending was a mistake, and didn't really fit with much of the rest of the film, the camera work was awful, and gave me a headache, and the characters were irritating......but there were a couple of scenes that showed some promise. Just didn't come through.
