Zodiac - 6/10
Love Jack Gyllenhal and Robert Downey Jr., was based on true events, it was pretty long and drawn out, not much action. There was another movie on the Zodiac at the rental place I should have picked it up.

The Number 23- 6/10
Was impressed with Jim Carey's ability to pull of a serious role, he did ok. The movie itself was bland and I knew what was going to happen basically from the beginning. Not that exciting. Was very pornographic actually

DON'T! If you see that movie run like your life depended on it, because it does.

I saw 300 at the theatre and I actually enjoyed it. I am not one for those types of movies either but it drew you into the characters and stuff I thought, reminded me a bit of Braveheart. I will probably buy it on DVD. I also watched a cool show on the History Channel the other day about the 300 Spartans. They were pretty crazy and smart.

Pffffth!!..

You just loved that movie for their Chippendale outfit. :p

Black Christmas (1974) ~ I have felt for awhile that this movie doesn't get nearly enough attention or appreciation, considering the influence it had on the horror genre; great, simple premise, and manages to be genuinely creepy without being over the top.

Black Christmas (remake) ~ Anyone that has ever wondered why some fans hate remakes so much, they should watch these films back to back. :p Completely stomps all over everything that was good about the original film. And all three of the alternate endings, bad as they were, made more sense then the one they kept in the film..... Some good gore I guess, but mostly a waste of time.

I bought this, I'm sad I did. I did like the icicle scene though.

Zodiac

Even better the second time around. The murders are horrifying (especially the daylight scene by the lake:eek: ) the characters are brilliantly written and portrayed, the detective work is authentic and cool and the special effects are amazing (and practically invisible - which makes them eve more brilliant) and Fincher's lensing has never been more precise and affecting. Some think it's a little long, but I found the obsession story quite compelling...and a direct corollary to Fincher's own obsession with the material.

9/10

Yes I agree that daylight scene by the lake was crazy

Okay, I watched one called The Zodiac, that wasn't exactly a bad film, but just seemed kind of pointless. Nothing special at all, really.
There is also one called Zodiac Killer.....which is an Ulli Lommel film, and while I have never seen it....well, I would say that it is probably best just to stay far away from that one.....:p

I recently saw a dvd of a title from the 70's (or mebbe 60's?) available at my local shopping centre called "The 300 Spartans", with what seemed to be the same general plot...was this one any better?
I personally thought 300 was alright, but if you had to use a comparison, clearly sin city was a shining example of how much better a film can be when the original author works directly onboard. That said, I loved the visual style of 300, but yeah - not one I'm rushing out to get on dvd anytime soon.

Plot-wise, The 300 Spartans feels a little more complete, and a little less focused on being manly- it's just a little more serious on telling the damn story instead of showing as many shiny gluds as they can.

See it, but don't buy it.

As far as 300 is concerned, I thought anyone with a lot of money could have strung together a picture like that. Visually, it was stunning- but it failed at everything else.

We've been busy with the baby, but he allowed us to watch some movies (with him, of course)

Rest Stop - This was a good one, even though a few parts didn't make sense (I attributed those to hallucinations)...I'd like to see a part 2

Vacancy - I really liked this one...Could have been done a little better in some parts (the 'no checkup on the cop', wasn't very believable), needed to be a little longer, I think...I'd like to see a sequel to this one, too

1408 - LOVED the beginning...Got a little slow past the middle...I ended up falling asleep before the end...I think that says something about it...I'm gonna give it another chance though...When I'm more awake

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie - Pretty much an extended version of the show...No more, no less...Explained a few things, but the explanations tended to raise a few more questions

28 Weeks Later - Somewhat of a letdown, I was expecting something better...A little slow...Still, not too bad

Plane Dead - LOVED this one (Thanks Murderdoll and Newb, I wouldn't have seen it if you hadn't mentioned it)...It seriously IS a lot like Snakes On A Plane except with Zombies instead of snakes, and with a bit more of a 'serious' bent, rather than humorous...Really, REALLY fun movie

Hills Have Eyes 2 (remake) - The original Hills Have Eyes 2 had a MUCH different and BETTER storyline...I didn't like the way they went with the military thing...They should have stuck with the original concept, there was nothing wrong with it...It was still worth watching...On a side note, the Hills Have Eyes remake was every bit as good as the original (maybe even a little better...Yes, I said it!)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning - I know that a lot of you didn't like this one, but I absolutely loved it...It was one of the best of all the ones we've watched recently

Monster House - Not bad...Kinda fun...Definitely had its moments, and a few laughs...Got boring near the end, but it was okay

Saw 3 - Definitely not as good as the first 2, was quite a bit slower and seemed to be missing a few elements, the 'feel' was different...but I'm still glad I watched it

The Messengers - Another one that wasn't quite what I thought it was going to be, but I still liked it pretty much

Sleepaway Camp, Sleepaway Camp 2, Sleepaway Camp 3 - Dustin hadn't EVER seen them, so he needed to...Still just as fun as ever

I know I'm forgetting some, but that's the best I can do at the moment

jaybomb 07-31-2007 05:51 AM

The DaVinci Code

I only have about 10 minutes left to it. I'm fixing to go finish it. I had to cut it off because my girlfriend wanted to go pick up something to eat because we hadn't eaten all day. So that's what I'm fixing to go do.

So far, I find it boring because I really don't believe any of the stuff that they are disproving anyway.

So far:

5/10

I didn't care much for The Hills Have Eyes 2. I thought it was kind of slow and pointless.

Saw 3 was nothing compared to the other two. It wasn't as nasty and creepy feeling. It just wasn't as dark.

The Messengers was actually a pretty decent movie. Not what I was expecting, but good. It was a cross between The Grudge, Gothika and The Amityville Horror.

And just for the record, I have yet to see any of the Sleepaway Camp movies either. :(

Nathan Fillion is one of my favorite actors!

Yeah, I agree, he is a great actor and he was fantastic in Slither. I'll awlays remember him as Mal from Firefly though..... (I'd love to see another series of Firefly)

Yeah i can't wait to get the Firefly series and serenity.I hope Joss Whedon listens to the fans and brings back Firefly. It would be great.

deathrider 07-31-2007 08:59 PM

It would be awesome, but unfortunately I can't see it ever happening. It was Whedons best work if you ask me, followed closely best the issues of X-Men that he wrote.
