Dead Silence. Liked it. Kind of "Darkness Falls" in feeling, but with out the abject sucking. Effectively creepy, obviously written after watching The Ring a few times. Good and satisfying.

SHooter. Liked it. A good sniper movie is always enjoyable, especially when they dont wimp out and show heads exploding like melons.

Session 9. INteresting, and pretty likeable if you choose to believe:

*SPOLIER*

That "Simon" is an entity that inhabits the weak, driving them to kill. It didnt seem that they spent enough time explaining this, trying to go for the "Draw your own conclusion" ending that is getting overused and tiresome these days. I did like it though.

Ghosts of Mars

Hadn't seen this one since it hit the theaters. Better than I remember and the score is rather rockin'. The make-ups are comical and some of the action scenes are repetitive, but no one shoots the "creepy walk down a long corridor" like JC. The interiors were all great, it was the exteriors that seemed off.

C+

I just got back from an Alfred Hitchcock/ Farley Granger double feature at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago. It was a spectacular experience, capped by the fact that I got to meet Farley, and he autographed my copy of Rope on DVD!

Between on-stage interviews with him, the theater screened:

Strangers on a Train (1951)
I've always considered this one of Hitchcock's most technically solid films. Every shot is well calculated, and there is some seriously cool symbolism and trick-shot-photography contained inside.

Rope (1948)
One of my top five favorite Hitchcock films, and easily his most underrated. When I heard they'd be screening this, I practically shat myself in excitement. I've probably seen it twenty-five times before, but this big-screen experience made it seem like new. Exhilerating and beautifully shot, and never dull. And having an autographed copy is very cool.

Mr. Granger was an unbelievably nice guy, and very generous. I feel very blessed to have met him.

LOVE Rope. Great, great film. Would like to see it on the big screen.

Gangs of New York ~ a rather different experience than I was expecting, very colorful, and vibrant film.....visually intriguing, and certainly violent enough. A nice, over the top performance by Lewis.......but I didn't really relate with, or connect to, any of the characters. It just all seemed maybe a tad too much over the top. Really glad I finally watched this though.

The Ridge ~ I have to wonder how it is I can find this crap...LOL.....bad, but not in a good way. Not really all that entertaining, and the characters may be the most annoying characters ever in a film like this, which is really saying something.......

Not as disturbing or touching as Requiem, but still very good.

Catching up on the all-timers...

Them. 08/10

Back when creature movies created a lot of flutter, we had Them! Nothing is more scary than giant ants rampaging through everywhere, ready to jump your butt at the slightest provocation...and Them! brought that to the screen.

And how! The effects are surprisingly good for a movie made almost half a century ago, and the atmosphere is really electrifying from start to finish. This is one pacy movie which is loaded with cheese and some fine acting. The premise is good and it holds itself till the end.

A must watch, if not already seen.

Well made....good acting.... kept my interest even though the outcome was known....could have been trimmed by about 20 minutes.

I really enjoyed it too - that doesn't change the fact that David Lynch could do with some therapy:p

A true hidden gem, if there ever was one. Zulawski's movie is perfect Oscar material. Excellent work by Isabelle Adjani.

A guilty pleasure of mine ever since I first saw it on VHS about 17 years back. Still manages to keep me on the edge of my seat, and it hasnt dated one bit.

Absolutely love this movie.

If anyone else hasnt seen it yet, watch it. My recommendation.

Grant, Stewart, and Hepburn make one hell of an a-list cast, I miss Hollywood.

Yojimbo (1961)

Before Sergio gave us A Fistful of Dollars, Akira Kurosawa gave us Yojimbo. It is a stunnigly well-shot, explosively entertaining, smashingly witty samurai, and it's blatant that Leone made this ambitious piece the skeleton for some of his western craftsmanship.

I'm recommending this to V, 'cause I think you'd totally dig this.

scarecrow666 07-25-2007 11:29 PM

I just seen Hellraiser Infernal . Not bad i thought. When it comes to sequels theres lots of different stories that can be told , and i reccon this was quite good.

Good Story, good acting, and fine directing from Fincher. The start of the film is great, but it losses momentum about mid way through.
Never the less, it's worth a rent.
