GOD TOLD ME TO (1976). This starts out well with ordinary citizens committing heinous crimes and when asked, the film title is uttered. A Policeman investigating the case finds there may be UFO"s involved or actually Divine intervention...at least that's how I saw it. Interesting premise, but goes on so many tangents, it's almost as though We're in different films, including Black Gangsters, search for identity and claiming faith while doing otherwise. Biggest surprise in here is an early role for Andy Kauffman, who according to IMDB managed to infuriate some people while filming. Worth a look, but could have been so much more. **

The Stepfather

This film has one and only one star: Terry O'Quinn. Throughout the film, he delivers a haunting performance as the titular stepfather.

His shining moment is when he makes the opening sequence into the memorable scary scene that it still is with his calm demeanor after a horrible deed. Whenever I see this film, I can't help but wonder: Was the idea of Jerry Blake whistling Camptown Races already in the script or did O'Quinn improvise that?

STEEL MAGNOLIAS (1988)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Has been derided as a "Chick Flick", but think for the most part, it's a good involving film about a group of longtime friends that deal with a tragedy later in the story. Great cast with Oscar Winners like Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine and Olympia Dukakis, who is hilarious here. Darryl Hannah seems to be have thrown into the story to fill space -find her character mealy-, but Dolly Parton is wonderful as the Hairdresser who eventually becomes a "Chain"

I'm sure Her family and friends love her, but like Tom Cruise, I JUST DO NOT see Julia Roberts's appeal. Her character is spoiled and snippy and her obstinate, foolish decision is responsible for the tragedy occurring and was appalled that she received an Oscar nomination for SM-would have given it to Dolly instead.

Still, the vets provide many involving moments, especially Sally whose raw wail composed of grief and rage gave Me chills. ***1/2

I cry hard at that scene every single time. I think my favorite characters were Olympia Dukakis's and Shirley MacLaine's. So many great lines!! Some that I still use!
