The "re-make" of Battle Royale hits the Hollywood screens WWE movies-style (remember See No Evil with Kane), with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Vinnie Jones( Juggernaut, "X-Men") heading a badass cast.

And the movie, hit-and-miss. Where BR was more brutal, and shocking to watch, here we have condemned killers going at each other. Scenario...same. Purpose...same. Sympathy or Empathy...none.

Somehow condemned killers dont arouse much sympathy and shock value. And it isnt the same to relate with this movie, as it was with BR.

The direction is decent, and there are some pretty good performances from Austin and Nathan Jones (if you remember him from the WWE 4-5 years back)...

Worth a watch if you have nothing else to do. Otherwise, skipping it wont be missing much.
(As Austin d say "Hell Yeah!")

You have to admit that there was one scene that was pretty brutal, I was surprised with the male on female violence in that scene.

"Penny Dreadful" (2006) 3/10

I'll remember this movie for having the most irritating lead character/actress i've ever seen. Not a whole lot more.

Hmmm..... Sounds familiar..

Oh yes, that one. No, i haven't seen it coz the plot sounded a little weak and i'm not a big slasher fan.

Slumber Party Massacre

This has to be one of the most straight forward plots ever. Maniac escapes from custody, proceeds to massacre girls at a slumber party. It's so simple that it actually works alright because less plot equals less potential plot holes. The acting was average and I'd say most of the budget went to paying all the actresses to spend so many scenes topless because the gore was mainly typical low budget. I like the motiveless killer, but the movie was pretty predictable. For 80s slasher fans, I'd recommend it, for anyone else, watch at your own risk. I was entertained.

C+

Hot Fuzz (2007) - 9/10
This will probably end up being one of my favourite films of the year. I thought Shaun of the Dead was over-rated (I liked it, but didn't think it was as amazing as the fans made it out to be...), and I was worried the same would apply here. Oh, it didn't. Hot Fuzz is fucking brilliant if your into this type of humour. The last 30 minutes has some of the best action I've seen (it's my style of action). Go see it now.

PS. Canada rocks. This has gore-galore and swear words in the double digits. PG-14. Our ratings board has become more and more wonderful. :)

Since they were taking from BR, it didnt surprise me. But yes, most of the 5/10 I gave the movie revolved around the brutality.

Last Watched: The Pumpkin Karver
Eh... low budget movie, and I usually love 'em. Was expecting a fun slasher, but it didn't go so well. The slasher bits weren't so formulaic, and the deaths didn't really seem to be on the foreground. Pulled off the Halloween atmosphere decently enough... could have been loads better. Wasn't horrific, but it isn't one of those terriblle B movies that I look back on and smile, because I realize I really enjoyed them.

Watching Now: Strangers With Candy.

The Descent

After what everyone said about this movie, I was expecting it to be fantastic. The only thing that made it worthwhile was the way it ended. But even at that, you could skip the first hour of the movie and not really miss anything. It's worth a watch, but do yourself a favor and rent before you buy.

5/10

Happy Feet (watching it now)
It's just alright so far... nothing overly special about it. Had a lot of hype, so I hope it gets better near the end. Not a big fan of animations, I've learned... none of them really impress me. Monster House being one of the few exceptions - oh, and of course Shrek.

Sacha Baron Cohen did an excellent job though.

Yes, all in all a very good and beautiful animated movie. Could have done without all the singing though. Who really apreciate that shit anyway?

Loved the scene with the killer whale. That was the highlight for me. :)
