Punk Rock Holocaust

What could be better than low-budget slasher film full of a bunch of my favorite punk bands (Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, Rancid, Pennywise, Tsunami Bomb, Atmosphere, etc...) Well, evidently the answer is just about anything. Take away the soundtrack and this movie SUCKED! Bad acting, super stupid story. On the plus side though, Lloyd Kaufman has a pretty prominent role and they did make the most of their low budget and seemingly spent most of it on gore. It just wasn't very entertaining.

i was about to get this a while ago, simply because of Pennywise, but it has Simple Plan and The Used and shit like that in it, so i passed.

Alice & Darkness Light Darkness

bwind22 05-02-2007 10:47 PM

The Dentist 2: Brace Yourself

This was actually a decent follow up to a decent movie. Neither were great, but both were alright. The story gels well with the first, the same actors return to repirse their roles, the gore is decent. In all, it was fairly entertaining, but not something I'd recommend to everyone as some might find it boring.

I saw Thr3e today...
I didn't enjoy a second of it.
Is it just me, or are modern horror movies degrading into repetitious, pathetic excuses of what they used to be???

2 out of 10

I don't think it's just you. Hollywood needs some fresh new creative minds to kickstart things again.

Your review makes me glad I didn't rent it the other day though because I was deciding between that or Sublime & Sublime turned out to be pretty cool.

Shallow Ground...Good movie, interesting concept

me too....i only bought it a few months ago and hadnt heard anything about it but i go on gut instinct on films......and i was right about this one..................

im watching terminator 2 now.....with that weird commentary of 26 people

bwind22 05-03-2007 05:33 AM

Brainscan

This was actually alot better than I was expecting. Eddie Furlong does a good job, the soundtrack is good, the plot is unique and original. The only detractor for me was that the gore was fairly mild, but it's still a cool movie.

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid

good western. a bit slow, not how i remembered it. still doesnt compare to the good the bad and the ugly. good though.

Kung Fu Hustle
completly original and tons of fun.

Tombstone.
Awesome western with amazing cast. really liked all the characters. George P. Casmatos's best film IMO.

Mictlantechutli 05-03-2007 11:23 AM

Karate Bullfighter

Sonny Chiba actually fights a mad bull...I shit you not. Those against animal cruelty will hate this one. Amazingly weird Japanese chop-socky.

Clerks 2, right now I'm getting ready to watch Phantasm for the first time.

swiss tony 05-03-2007 02:56 PM

cronos. 5/10. can't believe this is the same guy who directed pan's labyrinth, devil's backbone and hellboy

Geddy 05-03-2007 04:17 PM

Just finished watching Phantasm, I loved it, I only rented it but I'm going to try to hunt down the sentinel sphere box set, so I can see em' all.

_____V_____ 05-03-2007 08:09 PM

I trust you mean this one :

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...DL._SS500_.jpg

That sphere box set is hard to find...you can get your hands on it if someone you know is in the UK. Amazon, anchorbay et al carry it on their UK sites.

Be informed that its Region 2 encoded. You need a Region 2 supported player to run those discs.

If you need it, its on eBay too right here :

I noticed...it is priced at $59.95 there.

Ebay auctioning lists it at 65-odd bucks, so it depends where he wants it from.

It's definately one of the coolest packaged boxsets around.... Too bad it's for such a suck-ass series though...

Geddy 05-04-2007 01:29 AM

Damn, I forgot about region 2, 3, etc, I guess I'll just get 1, and 3, and 4 on dvd, but I don't think number 2 is on dvd.

Phantasm II is not available on Region 1 DVDs...and the problem with releasing a box set of all 4 movies in it is that different studios own the sequels of Phantasm.

There was some talk about the director of the movie, Don Coscarelli, releasing a Region 1 box-set of all 4 movies sometime in 2005, but those rumors died down, quite possibly because Coscarelli didnt get the green signal from all the studios involved.

You are not alone, however it's something I'll never understand.

Crap hero + crap villain + crap gore + retarded plot = Phantasm

Phalanx 05-04-2007 07:37 AM

Just got home from watching spider-man 3...aside from a few issues with character history butchery, some corny-type romance...and HUGE consolidation of quite a few events...it was probably the best of the three, IMO, the storyline was knitted together quite well...Venom was done well enough to not look completely stupid, and sandman was just awesome...
Great visual effects, and the fight scenes, as per the last two, are getting better as they go along.
I enjoyed it...wasn't that much better than the rest, but I liked it a lot.
It's safe to say if you liked the first 2, you'll like this.
8/10

Oh...and the campbell cameo was great this time...it's hard not to laugh.

The Mothman 05-04-2007 07:54 AM

Idiocracy again.

If you have a pc with a DVD player you can do region 2. Or just give it up and buy a multi region dvd player!

3 Extremes II
It wasn't as good as the first installment... but I guess it was alright. Nothing really blew me away, but the third and final story was close to doing just that. In order; the third, the first, then the second. I didn't like the style of the second, and the first made little sense, but I loved the third. Worth a watch if your into different region horror shorts.

Peaceful Warrior
Different then your typical overcoming-challenges movie. It didn't focus so much on the physical-side of training, rather the psychological-side. Like the message in the movie states (it's the journey, not the destination) we are left with a "cliffhanger" ending - further enforcing the point that it was the journey we were to watch, and that the film isn't your typical train-fight-win in the style of Rocky, for example. It was okay, nothing too blow-me-away... but it was well-crafted and worth a look. If your into the softer-side of sporting movies, try this out.

The Lost Boys
It was fun, I wish I had watched it as a child though - still held up today, but I mean... it would be so much better with that nostalgia added to the impact. Is Corey Feldman ever NOT irritating? Every role he plays seems to annoy the living frick' right out of me. Some moments were hilarious (unintentional, I assume) and I wouldn't really go in looking for a serious film about vampires. It's just plain fun. Solid movie.

"Haunted" 6/10

Very slow paced ghost movie without any big scares.

This movie would have sucked bad if it wasn't for the strong cast.

Yes, i'm a big fan of Aidan Quinn. :)

Shadow 05-04-2007 12:51 PM

Alpha Dog

Seen this in the cinema last night. A good film. The plot was interesting and the cast great (yes even Justin Timberlake, shocking I know). Leaves you thinking but some laughs along the way. Just the way I like it.

I would recommend this film.

Oh no....I am not a Justin Timberlake fan....and I have never seen him act, except in trailers.....but have you seen Zombie Nation? Because I tell you, I bet his acting ability would earn him an oscar when compared to the actors in that film......that's the last movie I watched, last weekend. So bloody awful, I haven't been able to watch anything since. I'm traumatized.....:p
