Monster Zero aka Godzilla vs Monster Zero widescreen

One of the awesomest of the Godzilla movies, especially in widescreen. Wow.

eh?

Besides the repetitive performance of Washington as "the cop", and the whole Timecop/Demolition Man stuff, what was there to write home about? cept some of the effects, of course.

They should rename him Denzel "The Cop" Washington by now.

Well, I just got back from a nice weekend vacation up to Lake Superior and like all of my vacations, it rained about 50% of the time so we watched a few movies in the hotel room... Here's the rundown.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Original)

Well, this has officially joined the ranks of Nosferatu as another silent classic that I just couldn't seem to get into. If I didn't LOVE Metropolis & The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I'd think I just wasn't a fan of silent films, but I guess I just found Dr. Caligari and Nosferatu to be rather boring. I still show these films a certain degree of leniency in grading howeverm just out of respect for what doors they've opened within the genre.

C-

Reno 911: Miami

Yikes! Love the show, hate the movie. Apparently this is only a concept that works in 23 minute doses because this movie just was lacking everything, including plot and a flow of humor. Sure, there were funny parts here or there but not consistently enough to make for an even remotely funny movie.

D

Night at the Museum

Fairly imaginative script executed in a fairly predictable fashion. This wasn't terrible and it wasn't great. Like so many other films, this falls into the mediocre category.

C+

Smokin' Aces

Well, it was a little slow to get moving, but that was okay because there was an intricate storyline being set up. Once the action hit, it hit hard as members of the all-star cast became corpses one after another. Everything was going great in a very True Romance style, and then they tried to get clever. They twisted the end up and tried to make it shocking when there really was no need for it and in my opinion, ended up detracting quite a bit from the overall entertainment value of the film. It was cool, but it coulda been something awesome and it wasn't.

C

The Hitcher

With the exception of 1 pretty awesome & unexpected scene , this movie was pretty run of the mill. Nothing impressed me, but nothing was so bad that I feel the need to call it to attention either. It was incredibly... run of the mill.

Saturday the 14th

Cheesy. Stupid. Fun. Low budget PG horror from the 80s. It's not gonna win any awards, but it's fun to watch with friends and laugh at.

Smokin' Aces

A fun action romp that kicks tons of geeky ass, but falls a little short in its inability to provide a "hero" to root for. I get it. It's fun. It's cool. It's star-studded, but it isn't as great as I wanted it to be.

That said, it's an uber-macho B-movie shoot-em-up worth anyone's time.

I know...it was just pathetically bad. Not "so stupid it's funny"...all the jokes in this one flopped completely. I think I chuckled about once. I would never, EVER see this movie again.

I watched "the shooter" at the movies today.
It was pretty solid. The plot was pretty simple, but it was all fairly well put together. Some VERY good action scenes, and it was pretty well gored-out in parts too, which is always well...more funny than anything...all good.
I liked it a hell of a lot more than training day.
...and that Rhona Mitra chick is hot...

Pirates of the Caribbean : Dead Man's Chest

This movie has the BEST adventure scenes from just about any movie, EVER. The two island fights. With the tribals and with eachother, and the infamous spinning wheel scene, amazingly well done.

Silent Hill...again...Still amazing

I just can't get over how much the movie looks like the game...They did an EXCELLENT job with this one...Why can't they make ALL (game-based movies) of them like this?

Phalanx 04-25-2007 02:29 AM

Probably because Uwe Boll makes most of 'em?

Black Christmas

If you are gonna rent Black Christmas, get the original. This was okay, but the original is better. This had decent acting, but a lame villain and a very thin plot. There was a fair amount of gore but nothing we haven't seen a dozen times before. It was okay, but not a remake that needed to be made in the first place and especially not if they weren't even gonna make it cooler than the original.

The Boondock Saints

i was pretty dissapointed. acting was bad. worst performance for William Dafoe imo. some incredibly stupid scenes. (fighting one dude with 6 guns for a extremely long time in the open, only hitting him once)

i didnt really enjoy this one. If you want to see a good movie about someone killing mafia, watch Payback.

Dude. Finally.

I've always said this and never get any agreement. I heard so much about the movie, and when I saw it I was incredibly dissapointed. It is a lame movie.

I don't get its cult status. Rocky Horror Picture Show? I get it. Donnie Darko? Hell yeah, for sure. Boondock Saints? Did I watch the right movie?!

Yeah, it's a dumb one.

Have you seen Overnight? It's the documentary about the director, Troy Duffy who hit the jackpot with his script sale and promptly assholed his way out of Hollywood. It's an amazing document of self-destruction and a cautionary tale for everyone who wants to make it in film.

XXX: State of the Union

Well, I never saw the first one because I knew it'd suck, but this was OnDemand for free & I didn't have anything else to watch this morning. It pretty much sucked. The acting was average, the plot was horrible, the action scenes were waaaay over the top and unbelievable and there were simply too many instances that just seemed all too convenient to the plotline. Pretty lame action film. It wasn't horrible, just well below average.
