I'll give it to Sheriff Brackett. I've decided that I'm going to pretend American Psycho wasn't made into a movie.

Why? Good book, bad movie? I thought that the movie was OK, but not necessarily deserving of the hype that it received.

I have a copy lying around somewhere... I really need to read it...

Yeh the movie didn't really get the book across very well IMO. People always bring up that the graphic violence was unfilmable but there's was around that like it could've been hinted at/done off screen. The film just dumbed down the book so much both thematically and stylistically. Everyone would be way better of watching the Ted Bundy film I mentioned in the serial killers bio pic thread.

Yeah - That movie sounds wicked. I'm going to have to add it to my Netflix queue. Thanks for the rec!

Doc Faustus 04-22-2010 07:19 PM

If a blatant psychotic plays Bateman (or Batman, which he failed just as much), then you lose the impact of the character, which, by the way, is my main qualm about Jack Nicholson's Jack Torrance. These are people that have madness lurking underneath a veneer of convention. If there is no veneer, there's no point. It is not compelling to see crazy people go insane. It's like watching a corpse get shot. Christian Bale isn't much of an actor in my opinion, especially now that there's compelling evidence that he's a real life nutjob with a very thin, penetrable veneer of sanity.

Psycom5k 04-22-2010 07:44 PM

Bateman's quote.

_____V_____ 04-22-2010 08:54 PM

Patrick Bateman's spine-tingling quote scores a very close 5-4-1 win over Sheriff Brackett's infamous line!

Yep.Didn't even really need to know what this quote was up against.

Doc Faustus 04-24-2010 12:07 PM

The Kong quote is deeply iconic and will kick lots of ass this round with all my blessings, but that line and the delivery of it is one of the best moments of Dennis Hopper's career. Blue Velvet deserves one vote at least.

missmacabre 04-24-2010 12:18 PM

Throwin a vote for Shaun.. just because I use that quote almost daily.
