If you mean meeting people on the internet, getting to know them, and then hooking up in real life...I think that's because:
1) Some people just don't know where to go to meet people, and talking online is easier sometimes than face to face...It also gives you a chance to try to get to know someone a little better before you even meet them in person, and closing a page is easier than walking away
2) Sometimes it just happens, even when you're not looking for a date or a relationship...You meet someone on the net, share the same interests, spend time talking about things over a period of time, and at some point something just 'clicks'...That happened to me (4 years ago, we're still together, and have a baby), and there's a couple that actually MET at THIS FORUM and are now married, and doing very well...I am SO happy for them :)
3) I'm sure there are many other reasons that I have no idea about...The above 2 are just my best guesses

'standing ovation'
it works for some and not for others.
In my own personal experience..it had nothing to do with finding love at
1st..it had more to do with sharing the same interest..such as horror movies.
You meet some one who is so compatible.
There really is no difference than going into a club and meeting a total stranger for the 1st time..
you dont know if that person is legit
you dont know if that person is not a serial killer
you know nothing about their back ground..
the only difference is ..that stranger has a real face.
I met my silly egyptian online..n we have been together now for 2 and a half years..happily married.
We spent the 1st year ..getting to know each others likes and dislikes..
personalities..etc ..i have been back n forth to Egypt..i have met his family..
we have done everything that any normal couple has done..even have had our arguments.
If you meet somebody online..be honest about yourself..
We fell in love..we held onto our relationship and we were both honest about who we really are and our backgrounds..It can work if you really feel that tis person is the right one for you.
