"Troll" being remade with a huge budget
Rumblings had surfaced recently that a remake to the '86 horror film "Troll" was in the works, with a substantial budget. After passing it off as a really bad joke, it was found out later that it wasnt a joke.....at all. Yesterday it was discovered that a remake to John Carl Buechler's film is in fact being shot. No details have been revealed about the film other than this synopsis: The film is about a young boy who enters a parallel world of wizards and magic where he befriends a good witch. Soon the boy learns that he must save the world from an evil Troll/Wizard that has the ability to hide his essence within the bodies of others. "Saw V & VI" director already signed up It has just been confirmed. Confirmation comes from multiple sources by our friends over at bloody-disgusting.com that David Hackl, the production designer on Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV and second unit director on Saw II and Saw IV has OFFICIALLY been attached to helm both Lionsgate's Saw V and Saw VI, assuming a hole doesn't form in the Earth and suck the franchise in with it. Will Jigsaw return? I'm sure he will. But this news comes so early don't expect much more until we see how well Saw IV does, which Hackl was once in the running to direct. Classic 50s Monster movie in 3D coming in May 2009 DreamWorks Animation's Monsters vs. Aliens has been slated for domestic release May 15, 2009, a week earlier than previously announced. Helmed by Conrad Vernon and Rob Letterman, the film is in production and will be distributed domestically by Paramount Pictures. "Monsters vs. Aliens" -- now confirmed as the official title with the release date -- will be the first DWA film produced in stereoscopic 3-D. "Monsters" is described as a reinvention of the classic 1950s monster movie into an irreverent modern-day action comedy. Lisa Stewart will produce the film. First Poster, First Trailer out for Argento's "The Mother of Tears"
Italy's Yahoo! Movies has a crisp, clear look at Dario Argento's The Mother of Tears, also known as the "Third Mother" film, after Suspiria and Inferno. In addition, you can check out the first international poster too! The Mother of Tears centers on a young American art student, Sarah, who "unwittingly opens an ancient urn that unleashes the demonic power of the world's most powerful witch. Fox pays huge bucks for new Vampire story In a seven-figure deal that shows Hollywood continues to be a sucker for a good vampire tale, Fox 2000 and Scott Free beat out three other studios to acquire screen rights to a bloodsucker trilogy by Jordan Ainsley that begins with The Passage. The three-book series have been sold to Ballantine for $3.75 million, based on a 400-page partial manuscript and an outline. The film caught the fancy of Ridley Scott, though it was not immediately clear whether he will direct it. Ainsley is a pseudonym for Justin Cronin, the PEN Hemingway Award and Stephen Crane Prize-winning author of the literary novel "Mary and O'Neil." With "The Passage," he has created an apocalyptic tale that has elements of "28 Weeks Later" and the Stephen King novel "The Stand." The story is this...When terminally ill cancer patients get healthy after being bitten by bats in South America, the government conducts secret tests with human subjects to see if a virus can cure illness. Instead, it unleashes a swarm of bloodthirsty vampires out of the test subjects, which include death row inmates. The first installment will be published in summer 2009. Fox 2000's Rodney Ferrell got an early peek at the book as it made the rounds with publishers, and then finalised the deal. Newest trailer:- Dario Argento's The Mother of Tears aka The Third Mother. Details of "Troll" remake from director
Writer-director John Carl Buechler dropped a few quick notes on his upcoming remake of TROLL, starting with his goals on improving upon the first film, "Finally I'm getting the opportunity to do it right this time. The term 'family friendly' should not be missunderstood. Please understand that this vision of the movie will be DARK, and edgy with a sweeping scope reminescent of Lord of the Rings. NOT CAMPY." One of the main things was the FX, which he explains "will be over-the-top and outrageous." And in response to many of the blogs he's read he writes, "Many are concerned that the effects will be the thin CGI/video game style. This will not be the case," he explains, "While we will employ the latest in CGI, we will also utilize a great many live-action effects." You want a taste of what you'll see in TROLL? Then all you have to do is check out Adam Green's HATCHET this September, which Buechler created the FX for. "I am devoted to the best in live action physical effects," he tells. He also explains that the characters are deeper and more fleshed out, which is an important step in making a good film. The film is about a young boy enters a parallel world of wizards and magic where he befriends a good witch. Soon the boy learns that he must save the world from an evil Troll/Wizard that has the ability to hide his essence within the bodies of others. TROLL begins lensing this September. Disney re-making its classic "Witch Mountain" Andy Fickman is coming on board to direct "Witch Mountain," Walt Disney Pictures' modern re-imagining of its classic 1975 adventure movie "Escape to Witch Mountain." Disney-based Andrew Gunn is producing via his Gunn Films banner. The 1975 film was based on a science fiction novel by Alexander Key and followed a pair of siblings, endowed with paranormal powers, who go on the run from a diabolical group of men who wish to exploit their abilities. The brother and sister turn out to be extraterrestrials. The movie hatched a sequel, "Return to Witch Mountain," best remembered for having Bette Davis and Christopher Lee in the cast, as well as a made-for-TV movie "Beyond to Witch Mountain" that was to have been a pilot for a TV series. Gunn Films' Ann Marie Sanderlin is exec producing. Brigham Taylor and Casey Wolfe are overseeing for Disney. "Mountain" is a high priority at the company and Fickman's involvement kicks it into gear. Fickman is quickly making Disney his new home. He directed the studio's upcoming family comedy "The Game Plan," starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and recently set up the family comedy "Pool Rats," which is a semiautobiographical story inspired by Fickman's youth. "Spawn" remake explained by McFarlane McFarlane explains with some really interesting comments, "Right, I'd call this more of a suspense thriller. I'm going to use a big example which may seem sort of loopy, but to me it's closer to "Jaws" in that — and this is one of the problems that some of the studios had — Spawn won't talk. He's just a being in this movie — which again, some people may find odd — but, you know, Jaws didn't talk a hell of a lot in his movie either. But you knew that when he came out, something was going to happen. You know what I mean? You've made the presence known enough that nothing good was going to come of his presence being there. So it's sort of the same concept. I'm not going for Freddy Krueger horror and I'm not going for Spider-Man action superhero. I'm not even going for a guy who's going to sit there and talk. You're never actually ever going to see him in his cape or costume in any kind of direct light. It's just going to be this thing that's just going to come, and if it's there then buddy, you're going to have a bad day." You can read the entire interview here. Warner Bros bringing DC's Horror-Western Jonah Hex Warner Bros. Pictures is saddling up to bring DC Comics' Western anti-hero comic book "Jonah Hex" to the big screen, with filmmakers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor on board to adapt. Andrew Lazar is producing via his Mad Chance Prods., as is Akiva Goldsman. Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood. "Hex" first appeared in the early 1970s in the issues of "All-Star Western" before graduating to his own series in 1977 that ran for about 10 years. A new series was launched in 2005. The character also had a run in the 1990s that combined the Western genre with supernatural elements. The filmmakers are not making a straight-ahead Western but plan to develop the character with some of the supernatural overtones in the hopes of creating a franchise. Greg Silverman and Elisha Holmes are overseeing for Warners. Gregory Noveck is overseeing for DC. (References - bloody-disgusting.com, hollywoodreporter.com, variety.com, moviehole.net, mtv.com) |
Babysitter Twins talk about possibilities of "Grindhouse 2"
Even with the box office flop of Dimension Films' Grindhouse, star Danny Trejo has been talking very highly about the possibilities of a sequel starring his character featured in one of the faux trailers, "Machete", which would be directed by Robert Rodriguez. Since then there hasn't been a peep, until now. On the sets of The Black Waters of Echo's Pond, the Babysitter twins (Electra & Elise Avellan) were on hand and had something quite interesting to say. When asked about Machete, Elise and Electra talked over each other, "Robert [Rodriguez] said he’d do it [Machete] and asked for us to be in it," they explain, "Robert wants to do GRINDHOUSE 2 with [the two films being] "Machete" and "The Babysitter Twins." The news sounds exciting, but now Rodriguez is busy with BARBARELLA and such, the twins don't know how soon something official is released. Although nothing is confirmed as to what will happen with GRINDHOUSE 2, the girls still know what their story would be about, assuming it's one of the next two films, "Robert mentioned something about the end of the world and Hollywood action films, where we’d be trained in Mexico to come back here and fight," Electra states. Elise then elaborates, "Hollywood starts fucking with us so we start killing… we [would] kill Harvey Weinstein in the movie, although that’s just talk now right," she clarifies. Official poster for "Saw IV" Check it out here. Saw IV hits theaters everywhere on October 26. Lionsgate will be bringing "De2cent" Over on IMDBPro it lists the sequel to Neil Marshall's astounding horror pic, The Descent, will be titled The De2cent, because that makes a whole lot of sense. No word on if this Se7en-esque title will stick, but Christian Colson is said to be returning as producer. The Descent was Neil Marshall's hotly anticipated follow up to his 2002 hit Dog Soldiers and told the story of an all female caving expedition, set in a cave system deep in the Appalachian Mountains, that goes terrifyingly wrong. (References - hollywoodreporter.com, bloody-disgusting.com, variety.com, aintitcool.com) |
Not only do I hope De2cent doesn't happen, I hope that the whole project gets canned altogether.
I really wanted The Descent to remain a recent gem amongst shit, and prayed it wouldn't fall into the money-franchise sector. |

Birch plays the same character as Jamie Lee Curtis in the original, which helped kick start the slasher genre. SK's "The Long Walk" coming to the big screen During an interview to promote Dimension Films' upcoming Stephen King adaptation, The Mist, director Frank Darabont revealed that he is in fact going to helm Stephen King's The Long Walk once he has completed Fahrenheit 451. The film is about a walk where the winner gets the ultimate prize - anything they want for life, and the losers get punished with death! The rules are simple - If you walk too slow, you get a warning, 4 warnings and you are shot. There is only one winner, and the story concentrates on a loosely held group of individuals that become friends and enemies during this inhumane walk. One by one Ray Garraty sees the people around him die, and he faces the truths of his own entry into the Long Walk, and those of his new "friends". He is aware that only one will survive all the way, but it is not until the end that he realised the finality of his situation, and he slowly looses his sanity piece by piece. Remake of "April Fool's Day" in the works
It was learnt recently that Scout Taylor-Compton will be playing the lead role in the Butcher Brothers remake of April Fool's Day, which she calls "Mean Girls crossed with horror." Scout also says that the plan is to make the film rated R. She can be seen in Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween on August 31 from Dimension Films. In the original a group of eight college friends gather together at an island mansion belonging to heiress Muffy St. John to celebrate their final year of school. They soon discover that each has a hidden secret from their past which is revealed, and soon after, they turn up dead. Yet, are they really dead? Or is it just part of some very real and cruel April Fool's jokes? The hostess, Muffy, is the only one who apparently knows what's going on. But then again, is it really her doing the killing? Clive Barker reveals info about Midnight Meat Train and Hellraiser remake In an exclusive one-on-one interview with bloody-disgusting.com, horror legend Clive Barker revealed some brand new info on his remake of Hellraiser, along with a few notes on his upcoming Midnight Meat Train from Lionsgate Films. Clive Barker talked a bit about why he did MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN next, “I have been developing a lot and never know what’s going to come first.“ Then replying to a joke about how no Asian director has proven themselves yet in the horror genre, so why take chance with Ryuhei Kitamura? Clive joked back, “He’s very very good, did you see that trailer?!” But what is the status of his HELLRAISER remake? Clive fills in, "I recently turned in a 45-page treatment. They [Dimension] wanted a remake and I couldn’t do that," he continues, "I wrote the narrative so that it has eloquence, I wanted to take what we learned from first movie about Pinhead and pour it into this mold… there’s a great story in there." He also talked a bit about how different this will be from the original, "It’s a horror and a drama, but its bloodier - but most horror movies are bloodier than they were back then." Zack Snyder bringing "Army Of The Dead" Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead, 300) took a couple seconds out of his busy night to chat about Army of the Dead, his next zombie feature, with bloody-disgusting.com. He tells that what will separate this film from any other zombie film is it's scope... "it will be massive!" He really drove home the point that we have never seen anything of this scale in our horror lives. He also proclaimed his love for the genre and said he'll be sticking around for quite some time. Set in a quarantined Las Vegas in the not-too-distant future, "Army" revolves around a father who tries to save his daughter from imminent death in a zombie-infested world. Jessica Alba goes into detail about "The Eye" remake Over at Comic Con, Jessica Alba chatted briefly about her upcoming role in THE EYE, which hits theaters February 1, 2008. She talked a little bit about the French directors (David Moreau and Xavier Palud) and how this film differs from their first feature film, THEM, which is slated for theatrical release this August. "The French directors are amazing, it's really going to take the horror genre to another level" she tells, "THE EYE has lots of blood, lots of gore, insanity, ghosts and its painful because you're going through the entire experience with this girl... you feel her anxiety from beginning to end." She elaborates, "The film is put in first person perspective to really feel the anxiety and what the characters feel. Ours (The Eye) is a lot more subtle and psychological." Is the infamous elevator scene of the original, in THE EYE remake? Alba answers with a sly smile “You’ll have to see it." In THE EYE Alba plays Sydney, a young, blind violinist is given the chance to see for the first time since childhood through a miraculous corneal transplant. As Sydney adjusts to a dizzying new world of colors and shapes, she is haunted by frightening visions of death itself capturing the doomed and dragging them away from the world of the living. Terrorized and on the brink of insanity, Sydney must discover whose eyes she has inherited, and what secret visions they have held. Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Joan Allen line up in "Deathrace 3000"
Director Paul W.S. Anderson revealed that the 28-year-old Transformers and 2 Fast 2 Furious star Tyrese Gibson is set to take to the road once more — this time behind the wheel — as a contestant in his Death Race 3000, an update of the 1975 classic starring David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone. Tyrese joins previously confirmed cast member Jason Statham — two tough dudes about to get their clock cleaned by the most unlikely of opponents, Anderson announced…Joan Allen. “She kicks the most ass out of everybody,” Anderson smiled, revealing for the first time that the three-time Oscar nominee will join the cast as well. The film, a “faithful remake,” said Anderson, follows a group of contestants on a cross-country race who score points for running down pedestrians. It is set for release in 2008. Paris singing in Darren Lynn Bousman's "Repo!" After spending most of the year living a soap opera, Paris Hilton(YUCK!) (House of Wax) will be part of a real opera this fall. Hilton has joined Alexa Vega and Paul Sorvino in the cast of Repo! The Genetic Opera, a full-blown musical thriller co-financed by "Saw" makers Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate. Darren Lynn Bousman, director of three "Saw" films, including the fourth entry, which opens Oct. 26, has spent several years working on the movie version of an opera hatched with screenwriter-composers Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich. Dan Heffner and Twisted's Carl Mazzocone, Mark Burg and Oren Koules are producing. Hilton will sing in a futuristic thriller framed around musical numbers that range from opera to rock. The setting is 2056, when a plague nearly destroys the human race and survival is dependent upon being able to finance a pricey organ transplant. Hilton plays a daughter of the organ transplant magnate (Sorvino) who is the villain of the piece. "This movie has become my life," said Bousman. "I have auditioned at least 30 actresses for this role -- Paris came in and owned it. She is this role." "We saw many actresses for the role, and Paris sang it better than all of them," added Mazzocone. Singing gig won't be Hilton's first, as she released the self-titled album "Paris" last year. Aside from her long run in reality show "The Simple Life," Hilton has acted in films such as "House of Wax" and "Raising Helen." "Repo!" is her first film job since her brief jail stint, and since she's agentless, her deal was negotiated by Paris Hilton Entertainment's Jason Moore, who manages her. Versus-director Kitamura talks Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train
After blasting Japan with handful of fantastic films (Versus, Alive, Godzilla 2000) Ryuhei Kitamura talks a bit about why he chose to come make an American film now. " I was looking for the right project for the past couple years," he continues, "I read 50-60 scripts and I knew I'd have to be very picky about it, something I could put my stamp on it and make it my movie. I was looking but couldn't find it and was actually desperate last year." Kitamura says that the reason he picked this Clive Barker project is because he picked up the original Japanese book back in 1987 and has been a fan for over 20 years. “I read it and was surprised, it was good,” he remembers. With Hideo Nakata (The Ring Two) and Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge, The Grudge 2) making slow, atmospheric films, what made [b]Kitamura want to do a gore film? "What's the point in doing something similar to someone else? I am not interested in that idea." Another thing Kitamura talked a bit about was planning for the future and more sequels, especially since they have an iconic new horror character, "[The] first conversation I had with Clive [Barker] was about this... [we had to] keep in mind this endless world of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Pinhead, Ash, Leatherface - that’s it," he continues, "after them I don’t need any new super cool horror icons, Jeepers Creepers a little, but I don’t keep on buying." So what he's trying to say is that there aren't many horror icons and they needed to find something special for him, which is creating a special look and weapon, "For 20 years we don’t have this new horror icon. We talk a lot about what costume he'll be wearing, what weapon he (Mahogany) has. Clive and I designed a custom hammer for him." When creating a new horror icon, you have to be thinking sequel, "if it came up (a sequel) and was good," he tells, "but I don’t like doing the same thing again and again. If I do a sequel I'd need something new to the storyline." Watch out for MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN in 2008. "Friday the 13th" remake coming in 2009? Platinum Dunes is aiming to get their remake of Friday the 13th in theaters by 2009. This film's life may depend on how well Rob Zombie's Halloween does at the end of the month, so fingers crossed. No word on whether Jonathan Liebesman is still attached to the project, but its heard that they're not using Mark Wheaton's story. Watch for the return of Jason Voorhees and his mother in 2009! Raimi, Hartnett talk about "30 Days of Night" Ghost House producer Sam Raimi talked a bit about his interest in acquiring 30 DAYS OF NIGHTS for the big screen, "I think it started with Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith’s incredible graphic novel. I love the original take on the vampires they illustrated. These guys have created a unique and very rich mythology for them. I really liked learning about them and I wanted to know more." Star Josh Hartnett chimed in with his thoughts on the graphic novel, "I read the graphic novel and spoke to director David Slade on the phone… really the biggest sell for me were the people involved," he continues, "I am going to get shot for saying this but I have never really read a lot of comic books, but I flipped through this one and I saw that the visuals were astounding, and with the help of David, and the visuals, [I knew] this would be a spectacular film." In addition to the comic book blowing his mind, he really dug the screenplay, "The script was great… what it would be like in a situation where you have no escape and you are being hunted…you are in conflict the entire time, and there is no logical way of getting out of it. I have always liked horror films and vampire films, yet I haven’t found a thing for me that had the right element, until this one." Writer/Creator Steve Niles talked a bit about adapting his own story, "For me they gave me a first shot on the screenplay…it’s been great, everyone has kept me in the loop pretty much through the entire process. I felt really attached to it, pretty much since I first met David I knew it would be in good hands." Niles also chatted a bit about making vampires scary again, "Something that Ben [Templesmith] and I went through when we were making the comic is that vampires aren’t scary anymore," he replies, "They hang out with you; teenage girls date them on TV. We had to strip away all that and use the idea that a creature that looks very much like us, yet look at us like cattle…like food. That is something we really wanted to do… make actual frightening vampires again." Director David Slade adds to this, "I can make these vampires anything I want them to be," he explains, "my ambition was to make a truly terrifying film, fusing the fantasy and beautifully drawn things and the gritty terrifying thing." Star Ben Foster loves vampires, in fact you might say he has a fetish, "I have a great vampire fetish. When I was going to the comic book store about two years ago and I found this book, I bought it and I ended up buying several copies of it for friends. It was something that really turns me on. David calls and says I think I have some thing for you called 30 Days of Night.. So I go GREAT!!" Although he jokes, "he wouldn’t let me be a vampire!" Sam Raimi concluded with a bold statement, "I have never seen a better vampire film. It’s rare that you come across a great graphic novel, in the field of horror, at least I never had. It was wonderful refreshing and thrilling to come across Steve Niles and this property!" 30 DAYS OF NIGHT hits theaters on October 19, 2007. "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" finally coming to the big screen
It was revealed a long while back that one of the Wolfenstein video games, specifically Return to Castle Wolfenstein, was going to be the next game adapted to the big screen. After the release of Universal's piece 'o crap Doom, things sort of hit a stand-still, that is until now. Roger Avary is back again as he will write the adaptation, which is great news if you're a fan of Silent Hill! Producer Samuel Hadida has secured the rights, with Roger Avary attached to write and direct the adaptation of the ID Software property. This project reteams Avary with Hadida after he penned company’s horror pic “Silent Hill.” The WWII-set “Return to Castle Wolfenstein” revolves around U.S. Army Ranger B.J. Blazkowicz, who leads a team of agents into Castle Wolfenstein in order to investigate the Nazis’ SS Paranormal Division. Project had previously been set up with Mark Gordon at Sony before the rights to the game reverted back to ID Software. Hadida’s becoming a prolific producer of vidgame adaptations, with “Resident Evil: Extinction,” the third installment in the franchise, bowing Sept. 21. Last year, he produced the horror pic “Silent Hill,” based on the game. A sequel’s planned. He also has “Onimusha” in the works with Christophe Gans attached to direct. Avary most recently adapted Robert Zemeckis’ take on “Beowulf,” which Paramount opens Nov. 16. He previously penned “Pulp Fiction,” “The Rules of Attraction” and “Killing Zoe.” “I’ve been playing the character of B.J. Blazkowicz since the epic ‘Wolfenstein 3D’ first bruised my brain and have ever since wanted to bring his adventures to life on the bigscreen,” Avary said. “It’s time to bust some dams, storm some bunkers and blow up some bridges.” ID Software’s other titles include the first-person shooters “Doom” and “Quake.” Another “Wolfenstein” game is in development. Midnight Meat Train sounds promising, and in the lines of Creep. Looks like Kitamura and Barker have a real winner on their hands.

Wicker Man companion gets ready to roll in Scotland and Texas The long-awaited Wicker Man re-imagining/companion piece is finally about to get underway. Starring Christopher Lee and Faye Dunaway, the film tells of a Christian singing star and her chaste fiance, a Texas cowboy, who travel to Scotland for a music festival that is merely the curtain-raiser for a horrific pagan ritual of sacrifice and murder, and it's uncertain if the power of the Americans' Christian faith will be strong enough to survive the assault of the pagans. Nunnari produced "300," based on the Frank Miller graphic novel, and he recently teamed with Wechsler to produce the Miller title "Ronin" at Warner Bros., with Sylvain White ("Stomp the Yard") directing. Wechsler called the graphic novel "an alien thriller with a fresh take on the origin of man." Skinny Puppy lead singer to sing opera in Bousman's "Repo!" Lionsgate will release this unique blend of genres in theaters on April 25, 2008. "Hellraiser" remake - happening or not happening One remake that might never get off the ground is the one-time full-speed ahead Hellraiser redo. Creator Clive Barker says that nobody seems to know whether Pinhead will return to the silver screen or not. “I have waited for a long time to see somebody give me a clue. You know, “Are we doing this or are we not doing this?” “Is it happening or is it not happening?” Nobody seems to know and I’m not going to hold my breath while I wait, because it’s frustrating”, says Barker. “I’m very lucky, I’ve got control over a lot of my artistic life. I’ve got control over my movies. I’ve got control over my books. I’m sorry, I don’t have control over my movies, but I do have control of my paintings and of my books.” The original "Hellraiser," which spawned umpteen sequels, was released in 1987. It still holds up quite well. So no, it doesn't need to be remade.
