The original Freddy snake was coloured dildo pink they had to cover it with goo n shit to get the scene past the ratings board.
|
Of course Nightmare on Elm Street is full of sexual content. It's implied that Freddy is not just a killer, but a molester as well. He's also an incubus. The series is every bit as sexually charged as the Friday the 13th movies, it's just very slightly less overt.
|
What's sexually charged about the F13th flicks? Phallic machete and the whole attacking people fucking deal?
|
That just about covers it. It's really heavyhanded and constantly sexual irresponsibility, to the point that it feels like Jason ends up embodying a lot of the danger that was just getting attached to sex in the 80s and 90s. Jason becomes a walking AIDS virus.
|
I think I've read that somewhere before... quite a interesting analogy.
|
It's slightly glossed over. People tend to forget the biggest component of it: the hockey mask. The facelessness is the key. There've always been elementals and facekillers in folklore, but in this case, they modernized it and punked the image up wonderfully. Now, instead of stealing people's breath at night, you have something tangible with a machete. He also kind of embodies the sexual element of the serial killer, which still felt like a new phenomenon for people to grasp by then. Every kind of disease that can come to bear occurs in the 80s slasher movie. If you read up on medieval slavic vampire folklore, you'll find a lot of stirring resemblances and that we still use the same kind of magical thinking. Revenants of drowned children and those who died of disease return to bring vengeance down on anybody who gets in their way, and the genotype of the creature shows what it eats. There are undead infants for example, that drink blood from a mother's breast, or criminals who return to their families. Jason's perfectly with type: Q: what killed Jason? A: sexual irresponsibility. Q: who killed Jason this way? A:teenagers. Q: who does he kill? A:teenagers. It's the same cycle of accountability and victimhood that slavic revenants have, but in this case the modern scapegoat is sexual irresponsibility.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Since the remake is being made I decided to start a thread on what you think of the series so far.
I disliked 2, 5, freddy's dead and freddy's nightmares series. A friend of mine said 1, 3 and new nightmare were good becuase they had originality. And, of course I bought the boxset last weekend with NO SPECIAL FEATURES, except from the freddy vs. jason film which is my 2nd favourite Nightmare film. What did you think? And don't redirect this thread becuase I haven't seen one on the first page. |

Who is doing the remake? |
I like the third. It's more of a comic book than a horror movie, but it's still kinda cool.

First one is among the best horror films ever made.
All others sucked. |

I put that one almost on par with the original. |

Freddy is just funny to me,he isnt really scary.I hope the remake makes him a little more scary.
|
I'd rather see another sequel/prequel as good as New Nightmare than a remake... maybe they should have another go at a TV series.
|
Or they could just come up with something original and try to squeeze money out of that...But don't count on it :(
|
More originality comes out of bastardizations when it comes to franchises. Folklore of a sinister backstory, sometimes better as a comic, TV episode, shitty sequel but its all essential if the character strikes home for you.
|
Loved the fist one, but got soured on the rest after seeing the second, so I never revisited the series. You can hold out hope that good material can still be created. The whole concept of dreams (nightmares) intermingling with reality is fantastic, so the groundowork has been laid. Can't say that I'm "holding my breath" awaiting the new release, though.

nightmare on elm street
I also have the nightmare on elm street box set and freddy vs jason
and new nightmare, I like freddy's movies. but didn't they explain in the first or second film what made freddy what he is today. they didn't tell why jason is why heis the way he is except that the counselor weren't watching him and he drowned in the lake. has anyone seen hatchet: it has freddy(robert england) candyman(tony todd) and the other kane hodder (who played jason) and is the boogeman) in it it was great. |
Sorry But I Hate Freddy Films They Just Make Me Laught ...
|
I'm a huge fan of the Nightmare series, but a remake is no good. Everybody is doing them, and it's really starting to get annoying. Just go make a shitty sequel...no expects much from a sequel, and it really doesn't have to live up to anything. If they do a remake, then it has to live up to the original, and they never do. So I actually hope this film never happens....along with the Hellraiser remake.

freddys one of my favoritesssss.
1s the best but out of the rest the 3rd comes in 2nd. |

Theres so many things wrong with this I dont even know where to start. |
I really enjoyed the first one (I actually re-watched it last night) as a legitimate horror movie. I enjoyed the rest of the series as classic 80's slasher camp. New Nightmare introduced a darker, scarier Freddy that I really liked and made him the monster he always should have been.
If they remake it (given the current trend I don't know why they wouldn't) I'd like to see it taken back to the feel of a proper horror movie, rather than a horror comedy. As mediocre as the remakes were I would compare "old" Leatherface versus remake Leatherface. Updated and much more intimidating, thats what I would like to see done with Freddy. |

There are some good remakes out there, there is just more bad ones. |
Is Robert Englund going to be Freddy? I don't know if the remake would work for me if he isn't. Who else could be Freddy?

freddy movie
i like the first nightmare the rest arent that good
|
As big of Freddy fan that I am, I much prefer him being the dark, scary type evil villain. He was pretty scary and mean in the first two. The 3rd movie was very good, but he started to get funny then. It makes for a sick type villain who laughs at you and cracks jokes while he kills you, but stick to the bad ass stuff. Freddy is still considered one of the most powerful villains because of his psychic powers in the dream world though. I think the remake needs to portray him as the evil, sick, twisted villain he actually is.
As far as the current franchise .... I loved them all, but I rank them like this: 1) Nightmare on Elm Street 1 2) Nightmare on Elm Street 3 3) Nightmare on Elm Street 2 4) Nightmare on Elm Street 4 5) New Nightmare 6) Nightmare on Elm Street 5 7) Freddys Dead the final nightmare |

Remake
I would have to agree that the original, and following chapters are pretty comedic, but that gives it its own nich I suppose....New Nightmare is pretty dark, and I would like to see the "nightmare" remake go there!

All Things Elm Street.
I liked part 1 & 3 the best, but I also enjoyed all the others as well.

Only films I've seen of the series as of today; are...
1. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) 2. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) 3. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) and if you want to count Freddy Vs. Jason (2003) then by all means, go ahead. still somewhat part of this particular horror franchise. yes? I am stoked for seeing the rest of the horror movie in the franchise along with the upcoming remake in April of 2010. : ) |
I've seen all of the following:
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) New Nightmare (1994) Freddy vs. Jason (2003) I still haven't seen: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) But, now that a remake is coming out, I'll have to break my own rule and watch the series from the start including the ones I've never seen. |
I don't care, I love cheesy '80s movies, the more cheese the better!
|
You've got to be a fan of cheese. The Freddy movies after part one started to get cheesier. I don't mind because I like cheese.:cool::cool:
|
