My advice for anyone that wants to act, is to go to every audition you can and do any sort of play or acting event you can, get experience and then take it from there. you may think you want to get involved, but try it first and see if you like it before spending the money on pictures and traveling etc....

If you are a writer or director, get yourself a laptop and a dv camera and play around with shooting some scenes, hell have your friends and family act reading your lines, it always helps to hear what it will sound like and it helps you write more like people talk.
