Wow, that's like five copies of my book. You should lay off the goldplated Gitanes.

Doc you are in fact a legend among legends. I'm not giving up smoking but I really should go buy your book.

On the topic of giving up smoking, I've given up twice once for about 6 weeks when I had glandular fever and physcially couldn't smoke without being ill (and I did try more then a few times) and once more for about 3 days.

Everyones biology is different and it effects people differently some people give it away with limited problems, personally I went those three days without sleep and barely able to eat. My hands shook most of the time, I couldn't, read, write or watch anything for more then 15 minutes without losing complete concentration often times have to go back. After the third day at 3am, still not able to sleep I just said fuck it and went and bought cigarettes.

I know it's doable, but I know I will have to have a very strong desire to do so. As yet I personally have never found a good reason.

But hey if you can good luck on being free of a nasty compulsion don't let those damn cigarettes tell you when you need one!

A good trick to start cutting back is to quit in stages.

There are certain times when you always smoke and all you have to do is not smoke at just one of these times eg when you're work, driving in a car etc.

Smoke as usual throughout the day but remain steadfast during your chosen time of abstinance. When you're used to not smoking during one usual time, add another and you will soon be right down on the number of tabs you have during a day.

I know a couple of people who tried quitting this way and it worked really well for them. its an option anyway.
