sure there are no good ideas and the stories may not be a gripping or as scary as they were back then. The truth is, the films are usually scarier, but because it takes a lot more to scare people nowadays, they don't seem it. I think the film should be judged as a film, not just "some remake with a completely different plot2 or "Just a rip off"

don't know for sure, but yeah, probably... i am figuring out that a lot of the films i think are 'original' are actually a remake of something from 50 years ago.

Yeah, I hear that the departed is loosely based on the first in a 3 film series called "Infernal Affairs".
Have yet to see either.

A lot of good points here..the fact of the matter is EVERYTHING has been done to an extent...if you notice it more in terms of horror, that'd be a combination of you noticing your preferred genre moreso, and the FACT that horror has not ever met with as much public approval as many other genres...therefore there's ALWAYS been less of it out there...over all I'd say the ratio has remained largely the same.

As long as the fans stick by horror then it will always be there. Sure it may not be as good at times as it can be but its there. Horror fans need to be more supportive and as previously said, go to the cinema to see new horror releases. The more demand there is for horror the more horror there will be. However as was also said earlier the more films being made the more chance there is of a few bad films. I personally think there have been some quality horror films recently.
