Last Friday of every month the air-raid sirens would go off and we'd do "duck and cover" drills in school. Fucking terrifying. Living in Washington DC we were repeatedly told that we'd have nothing to worry about - when the nukes fell, there'd be a bright flash and then POOF we're vaporized. When "The Day After" aired on television I couldn't sleep for fear of the Ruskies lobbing thier nukes at us.

I don't even want to think about it. The only thing that's comforting is that we have bigger, badder nukes, and a whole lot more.

3 main problems with the parent/kid thing IMO...

1: Chicks who get knocked up under the age of 18
2: Guys that are out to tale advantage of 'em, and fuck off.
3: The cycle continues.

I mean shit...it's not just the baby factor, I mean sure, if you wanna ruin any chances of anything outside parenthood really ever going right for you, sure, go ahead...but fuck, the amount of evidently unsafe sex happening? Ridiculous.
The kids get born into shitty situations, the parent/s drop out or discontinue schooling, (with nothing better to do) often turn to alcohol or drug use, kids learn by example, and end up in the same situation most of the time...many people who know people like this will see this clearly. Sure, there's the 1-in-10 shot the kid'll end up different from the parent, but really, not great odds.

As for "spending time with the kids"...that all depends really...it's an unfortunate situation, but I imagine say, if someone were a single parent, working two jobs just to provide for their kids...then they're doing it as right as they CAN, and yes, in that case, them saying their kids are the most important thing to them would be correct.
I suppose that one really depends on the situation at hand, not everyone has the available time that some do.

There's no reason a single person can't work ONE job and provide for their kids...Dustin works one job and he provides for 5 of us...

My mother was divorced...She worked one job and provided for my sister and me...We may not have had everything we WANTED, but we always had everything we NEEDED...And, we had a mother, too...

Seri works one job...She pays all of her bills, and she provides for her cat :D

MOST of the people I know work one job, and provide for their kids just fine

The reason I can't believe someone who says their kids are the most important thing in their lives, and they work 2 jobs, is because they never really SEE their kids...How can your kids be so important, if you don't ever spend any time with them?

If your kids really are the MOST important thing (and money ISN'T), then you work ONE job and learn how to manage your money better so that you CAN spend time with your kids...

Depends...I say there's still factors.
Depends on the job, depends on how qualified you are and what kind've/stability of job you're in, depends if you already own the house, or you're renting...sometimes a situation can be the one parents thrust upon you, sometimes it can be due to the fact you had kids too early and narrowed down your options somewhat...Depends on if you consider bare minimum, or yknow, a "little more" as satisfactory by the standards you set for yourself or kid/s.
It's easy to ignore the fact there's some people in pretty shitty situations, because it isn't ALWAYS the case, there's scores or difference between people..what if the only jobs available at the time were shitty p/t jobs that offered fuck-all pay, so you have to take on other jobs...jobs that start right as one of your jobs finish...just saying for some people it might in fact be harder than the situation you're used to yourself?

Not saying that the person you're talking about is in this situation, or commenting on whether or not they spend enough time with their kids, 'cos I don't know them...I wasn't speaking in relation to them in the first place...just that yknow, sometimes, shit happens.

Oh...I understand...But, I still stand by what I said...I wasn't talking about the person in my example either, because it's obvious to EVERYONE who DOES know her, that she wants nothing to do with her kids (despite what she says otherwise...Actions speak louder than words), and it's also obvious that either ONE of her 2 jobs could easily pay all of her bills, if she didn't waste so much damned money on HERSELF

Jobs that don't pay much?...If the only jobs available in a certain area are jobs that don't pay much, there's a good chance that it's a relatively low-income area...In this case, living expenses usually aren't that much...the cost of living would most likely be lower, and it would still even out...

Don't have the skills to get a higher paying job?...Dustin doesn't have any special training, or degrees...Just a High School education...He doesn't make a lot, but we still pay all of our bills, and have enough left to goof off with the kids from time to time...It all depends on how you manage the money you have...And the amount of bills you have depends entirely on the individual...WE don't use credit cards, we purchase vehicles that we can pay cash for, the only loan we have is our mortgage (which would be equivalent to a person paying rent)...We have no cell phone...Our ONLY bills are House Payment, Water, Sanitation, Gas and Electric, Telephone, Internet, Insurance and Cable...We didn't want any more bills than that, so we don't have them...He gets paid every 2 weeks...That's 2 checks a month...The first check is used to make the house payment...The second check is used to pay all the rest of the bills...Any money that we have left over from both checks, is used to buy horror movies, games, and take the kids out...We never go out by ourselves...We buy vehicles with our income tax refund

There are two ways to have more money:

1) Make more
2) Spend less

We choose the number 2 option, so that we will have more time for the kids...Right now Dustin is working a LOT of hours...Not because we need the money, but because the hotel is in desperate need of help...There are so many jobs here, that people job hop a LOT, and the hotel can't keep people for very long...So, Dustin fills in every time someone is needed...He's kinda obligated to do so, because all of the other employees are already doing as much as they can, too...But, NORMALLY he works 40 hours a week...And we do just fine

As for the part-time work?...A part-time job is usually 20 hours a week...Working 2 of THOSE is no different than having ONE job...It's still 40 hours a week...You still have at LEAST 8 hours a day to spend with your kids, and 8 hours to sleep

If a single person works one job, manages their money well and STILL doesn't make enough to pay all of their bills...they can either get a higher paying job...Or get assistance like food stamps...I'm sure that if they don't have enough to pay their bills, they would qualify for some type of assistance, so that they would still have time for their kids...Also, if you're single and have kids, wouldn't you be getting child support?...That would help, too

I'm just saying that if WE (and everyone we know) can do it...So can everyone else...If they CHOOSE to

(this wasn't totally directed at xperiment by the way, just ranting)

See there it is right there..
'Nothing! We're just here. And for people who hate when christians try to convert you'..
The thing is when you have a scriptures shoved in your face or somebody forever preaching in your ear or somebody lecturing you every minute about what your bible has to say..
Leave the conversion for those who want to be converted and for those who are given that opportunity to choose for themselves thier own religious path..
