The N word should never be used by anyone white or black. Im black and me and my friends have on occasion jokingly used it "amongst each other in private", bt that's the main phrase here: "amongs each other in private". Just like a polish or italian person may jokingly call each other "pollack" or ginny" among ther own but not in public forum. It's the hip hop/rap genre/generation that's misusing the word casually and flagrantly, and an irresponsible media that allows it to be used on cds and in movies

However, Michael Richards was using the word the way it was originally intended: as a weapon of hate. He wasnt trying to be hip or show some sub-cultural significance. He made a comment about hanging a black man 50 ft in the air with a fork up his ass, then started directly calling the heckler a n..... That's hate speech no matter what anyone says. He can apologize all he wants. Also this guy should never have been onstage as he isnt a stand up comedian and obviously doesnt know how to handle simple heckling. Now his career is basically in the toilet, at least for now. He doesnt have the talent of a Mel Gibson who will definitely bounce back from his own anti-semitic faux pas. I havent stopped watching Seinfeld but I wont be able to forget what Richards has done. Look for him coming to a reality show near you.

the impresssion I've gotten in relation to the word in question is this:

Lets say you have a sibling. You're allowed to make fun of said sibling. When someone else comes along and makes fun of them, that's not cool. Seems like the same principle applies with the use of the word.



Anyways, I'm just surprised enough people went to Richards' show for him to offend anybody.

If it was a black comedian calling a white heckler a skinny assed cracker, I doubt that anyone would have batted an eyelash over it, they probably would have laughed. Big deal, it was a COMEDY show, ya know, not to be taken seriously. People need to fucking lighten up. Just my opinion.

there is a history to take into account. Whites in america do not have the same history as blacks.
