(waaaaaaayyyy less compression - same technology)

I have (somewhere) a laserdisc player but I guess it wasn't elite. You're not saying the picture quality of an elite player is better even than a good upconvert dvd player are you? Yes it's an old thread... so what... wanna fight about it?

I dont know what an upconvert DVD player is - but the Elite series is still very sought after and valuable because of its quality..
the best DVD players may very well be better now but not many people are dumping their Pioneer elite machines for less than $800.

They used to be worth over $1200 just a year ago.

Interesting, I'd like to see them both side by side. Upconverts can be very good getting almost HD DVD quality visuals. I think my laserdisc player was a Pioneer or a Panasonic...
The only thing I didn't like about laserdisc was the switching of discs mid-movie, really took me out of some flicks.

More'n most people, even.
I've had so many people tell me to stay away from EBay, it's kind of turned into a boogeyman by now. They E-Boogey.

I've bought tons of stuff off of ebay and have only had one problem and that was getting a burnt dvd copy when the seller advertised it as "official release still in shrink wrap" and after threatning to leave him negative feedback he refunded my money...

Other than that I've had nothing but excellent transactions from ebay...

Same here I always read sellers feedback, I won't buy if it's less than 99% either...

Ah well, mine WAS manual and yeah, you wouldn't be thrilled lol. Anyway, you know what they say about vide... laser discs.

"Pirate 1: Help yourself, mates. A chest full of video discs.
Pirate 2: No!
Pirate 3: What good are they?
Pirate 4: Can't record on 'em.
Pirate 2: They're not compatible with my system"

It's strange to say this, but when I watch a laserdisc, it gives me a nostalgic feeling...I get all dreamy and think about the mid-90's when I was a big laser-nut. I used to love going to the laserdisc rental stores and checking out the many rental discs that were, even at that time, quite old! There is something so geeky about these things.

I WANT THAT HILLBILLY JOHN LASERDISC, NOW! GIVE IT HERE, DO YOU HEAR MWE?
