Here's my pimp that everyone could see coming from a mile away.

Watch the Exorcist III. Not so in your face. Very subtle, very nice.

Check out the movies in my signature. Few (if any) will actually scare you, but all are fantastic horror films.

28 Days Later is very hit-or-miss. Alot of people love it, but I (along with many others) didnt think it was all that.

You wont find alot of people that dont like Hellraiser though...classic. The second one is worth seeing as well.

It might be a bit popcorn, but I'd say Poltergeist is a good view for anybody just getting into horror. Solid, primal scares without the kind of extreme gore that takes a bit of indoctrination. Bava's Black Sunday is also rich, intriguing and fairly risque for its time, so are the AI Poe films with Vincent Price. They're not Poe, but they're all something special. And for a good exotic scare, I'd say Ju On. These are all movies that help a person better appreciate the genre and sort the wheat from the chaff. Though I would agree with the STE on following your instincts. The more you follow them, the better they develop one way or the other. You can only rent Dracula's Curse or Hell's Highway once.

I am always rooting for Phantasm as it's one of my favorite 70's horror films. A very unique style combining scary, funny and surrealism, all played out through the filter of 70's hipness. It's a whackay, freakay kind of horror.

In my opinion, the best thing about Phantasm was it's use of music. It was creepy, yet it flowed with the film, just like in movies such as 'Halloween'.
