Sid didn't even know how to play when the Pistols formed and we've all heard their rather crass vocals. Even their fans won't argue the fact that they lacked musical talent (That's not what their fans care about.) Whether you like them or not isn't relevent when considering whether or not they were punk. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but I give credit where it's due. They were essentially the epitome of 'punk'.

They were an aggresive, but crappy, rock band from England that blew up because people were sick of disco. They made a lasting impression on music in general and if they never existed, music would probably sound pretty different right now.

Personally, I like The Clash better too, but I don't think they had the impact globally that The Pistols did. An arguement could be made for The Ramones though...

Exactly. Sure i dig some of their songs, but it was all a publicity act to me. It wasnt about the music, or even the fans, it was about media attention and money. I still respect Johnny Rotten for breaking up the band early.

i love the bollocks album ... every song on it ..
for the music ..

i think the Clash are one of the most over rated bands of all time (personal opinion - not widely shared)

Yes, Sid didn't have any musicial talent. Sid was just a face on stage, a filler. But even over time Sid wanted too get better and by the end of the American Tour he learned all the songs.

But for the rest of the band, they all had talent. Just because you can't sing, drum, or play guitar the proper way doesn't mean you have no talent. Like I said before "They couldn't write songs or record a album that changed Rock n Roll histroy if they didn't have any".

What Sex Pistols fans have you talked too? I agrue that REAL fans would stick up for them and say they had talent. And no, I am not a huge fan.

People were sick of Disco? Thats why the Sex pistol blew up? The Disco era was 1977-1980. Disco was nothing when Punk started. The Sex Pistols blew up in 1976.... so how can people be sick of a type of music that wasn't even massive yet?

Get your facts straight.

 The Clash is the Beatles of classic Punk. The Clash is nothing less than fucking amazing. THEY have A LOT of talent. Joe & Micks guitar riffs are awesome. I have never heard two guitar players play off each as good as them.... besides Fugazi. The Clash is more creative, has poetry than any other classic punk band.

Wild and Crazy Punker!!!

GG Allin(pictured)...it's as simple as that. You go all out to prove your craziness. Whatever it takes. But still put on one hell of a punk rock show!

Okay, so you concede an obvious lack of talent...

If someone can't sing, play guitar or drum, then they don't have musical talent, which is what I said. They changed the face of the music industry because they were the right band at the right time.

I could list off about 100 names of "REAL" fans who think that, but what good would that do? You wouldn't know any of them anyways... (As a matter of fact, I can't think of 1 single person who I have ever heard say, "Wow! Listen to this harmony!" or "Whoa! What a riff!" or anything along those lines.) I know a lot of people who like them, but what they like about them is 1)The rawness of the music, 2)the chaos and anarchy of the lyrics, and 3) the overall attitude of the band.

I kinda mis-spoke on that. When I said disco before, I actually meant the hippy/classic rock type shit. My bad.

The punks were sick of the hippy music, and not into disco (Which was getting big around the same time.) so they started their own sound.
