Art School Confidential

This one has a slasher backstory, and one that ends up being an ironic center of the major plotline. I enjoyed it. Zwigoff seems talented as a director, but some may be put off by his artistic style. I'm watching his fan-favourite next, Ghost World.

joshaube 04-08-2007 07:21 PM

Ghost World
Loved it. Goes on my list of 'favourite movies'. I could indentify with a multitude of scenes in this movie, more then any other I've watched in the past - and the emotions were portrayed exactly like I had felt them. Art is a theme in Zwigoff's films, aren't they? Hm, he's a director I should watch out for.

Grindhouse

Planet Terror - 8/10
Death Proof - 7/10

Overall a damn fun time.

Miss Olivia 04-08-2007 10:55 PM

I went and saw Grindhouse, and holy SHIT it's awesome!!!! I haven't enjoyed a movie like that in a really long time....it's actually two full length movies, and runs over three hours. It's SOOO worth the extra time, though. The first story was my favorite, it's a great zombie spoof that made me laugh a good bit. The second story dragged a bit in the middle, but Kurt Russell makes up for it. I love that man:D
There are also awesome fake trailers in the movie that I loved.
I saw the preview for the new Halloween movie, and it looks like it could be good. I'll give it a chance, for sure. The new Pirates of the Carribean looks pretty good too.
Yay.

I'm not 100%...I'm sure there's plenty of total geeks that could find 100 things wrong with my explanation, but here goes.
I think that the elves, and some of their more "mystic" friends no longer wanted to be part of "mans world" after what the events of the three books/films cost them, and they decided it'd be best if they went off to their yknow...either "heaven" or...world that's not quite on the same plane of reality, where they could live as immortals (free of the wars of man I guess they thought would happen time and again) and turn into legends told by men from that day forth...

The men stayed, so did the hobbits - I take it we just call those midgets nowadays, hm?

Phalanx 04-09-2007 01:20 AM

Oh, I also just finished watching "the prestige".
Interesting film, all parts acted quite well, nice score, good atmosphere.
Strage lil' mystery film with certain twists you'll either "get", or not.
A solid watch all the way, despite confusion...a good story.

Wayne's World.

DP McCoy 04-09-2007 06:51 AM

Demons-
Hadn't watched this for a couple of years but I have always found it enjoyable, bad acting, dodgy effects, some hilarious dubbing, one huge plot convenience,a cheesy soundtrack and some rather ugly actors somehow combine together and make one hugely entertaining movie! I love it 8/10 !

Office Space-
first time I had seen this and I really have been missing something.Great fun throughout, great comedic performances from the leading players but I think the supporting characters really were outstanding and stole the show.9/10.

Vodstok 04-09-2007 08:29 AM

I havent been here in a while, so the list of movies I have seen since last time is pretty long:
Curious George: Good for a kids movie

North Country: Good

Running Scared: Paul Walker. EXCELENT, very surprising that the pretty boy from the fast and the furious could make such a good movie, but I loved it.

11:14. The movie was basically a build up to a great climax, without the climax, so it was good until it ended 15 minutes early.

Over the Hedge. Mediocre, some of it was excellent, some not so good. I love Hammy, steve carrel is a genius.

Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremecy: Great overall action movies. Liked them both a lot.

300: Never has testosterone fueled violence been so visually stunning. It was a beautiful movie, I thought the acting was good enough, and expected it to be overdone, so it had no unpleasant surprises to me. I LOVED it more than anything i have seen in a long time.

Geddy 04-09-2007 09:10 AM

Resident Evil.

swiss tony 04-09-2007 09:23 AM

the wild geese. fun war movie. 7/10

jaybomb 04-09-2007 09:27 AM

watched caddyshack this morning before work

Phalanx 04-09-2007 09:31 AM

Fortress.
I saw it when I was about 13 last...and I remember seeing a really not so great sequel. This one, however is a pretty fun peice of sci-fi. Watchable.
I like Lambert too, in most of his stuff outside of highlander.
God damn that trip-machine scene fucks me up though...and the eyes? haHAhaHAha I'm glad I hired this one again.

Kane_Hodder 04-09-2007 09:48 AM

Last film I watched was Torque. A bit too much of the adrenalin testosterone stuff, it clearly shows that its inspired heavily from the Fast and the Furious films. Further, the racing on the streets and the highways doesnt work with the motorcycles as it does with the cars. There is one unbelievable chase involving a train though, the only highlight of the entire film.

Pumpkinhead.
Not a bad peice of horror...they don't much make 'em like this anymore.
Decent atmosphere and gore, the demon looked alright for its time too.
I liked the twist...

I remeber seeing this a long time ago....not even all of it, just when I was quite young, watching some late night tv....I'm glad I picked this one up again, I quite liked it.

Yknow what? I found out there is FOUR of these. I remember seeing 2 available but 4? The latest is this years release
Anyone know how any of these sequels are?

Geddy 04-10-2007 02:07 AM

Yes there are 3 sequels to the original Pumpkinhead :-

Pt. 2 is named Blood Wings('94),
Pt. 3 is Ashes to Ashes (2006, with Lance Henriksen reprising his role from the original),
and Pt. 4 is Blood Feud. (direct to video release, with Lance Henriksen in same but smaller role)

Finished Ted Bundy. Popping in The Eye next before hittin the sack.

Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave

Well... This was better than I was expecting which pretty much equates to mildly entertaining here. The plot and a lot of the FX were in the "So bad it's funny" range, but some of the acting was in the "So bad it just sucks" range. They compensate for the terrible acting we must endure with an abundance of naked boobies though so that evens things out a bit. In all, I was entertained but it's not something I'd recommend to anyone except fans of low brow, low budget zombie films.

Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger...
