The Amityville Horror 1979 (5/10)

I don't like assessing films based on second viewings, as I think the 1st viewing is part of the quality. But I saw this last as a child, and a lot of films don't stand up well to a re-review as an adult. Amityville was not an exception.

It was quite slow moving until the last 30 mins. Up until that point, I didn't find the story that interesting, and the characters seemed rather flat. This time around, the last 30 mins, and the ending was a bit anticlimactic, especially in the sense the going-ons appeared rather disjointed and arbitrary from what had happened through the first 2/3rds. It didn't retain the creepiness and scariness I remembered as a kid.

Thief (1981)

70's (shot in 80's) Heist film, well crafted by Michael Mann and starring a particularly unlikeable James Caan.

Deliverance (1972)
I don't know why I haven't watched this film before since I've heard so many good things about it. Anyway, I really enjoyed it, especially the performances of both Voight and Reynolds. Excellent acting. And the dueling banjos scene was all kinds of awesome. I think I'll have to read the novel now.

The film looked and felt very 70's except for the score.

I kind of agree I was a bit let down seeing it a second time after seeing it as a kid but I much prefer Amityfille 2: The Possession overall.
