I know, right?
Glad I'm not alone here! |
Fright Night 1 + 2 (the originals).
First film as good as always. The scenes with Jerry and Charlie are excellent and Malcolm McDowell ruled of course. Enjoyed the sequel despite being way inferior and a least they upgraded the chick from Marcy Darcy. |
Moderator Note - A new thread for all the latest horror watches (from 1990 onwards), has been made here: http://www.horror.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63920. Please post in that thread and let's keep this one for the watched films between 1970-1989. Thanks!

Devil Dog: The Hound of Hell (1978)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ilmPoster.jpeg Enjoyable made for TV nonsense - which the cutest killer canine since Cujo. Directed by the occasionally great Curtis Harrington. |
Rocky 3.
I recently got all of these, as I'd only seen parts of the first one and I think near all of the fourth one, before watching Rocky Balboa a few years back. So we've watched the first three over the last week. I enjoyed the first one, but I have to say that I found the second one superior. R3 is a good watch, but somehow seems quite a different direction from the first two, it was interesting to see so much of an "offscreen" character change in the lead. It was hm...ok...not sure I really liked it as much, didn't seem quite as down to earth as the first couple. A lot of people seem to consider this one, one of the best...so I guess I belong to something of a minority in this regard. |
Curse of the Black Widow (1977) :
http://d2oz5j6ef5tbf6.cloudfront.net...lack_widow.jpg Thought I hadn't seen this before but I had. Very entertaining TV Movie from the great Dan Curtis. Reminded me a lot of a Kolchak episode. Scream of the Wolf (1974) http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV..._V1_SX214_.jpg Another Dan Curtis TV movie - would be pretty run of the mill except for Clint Walker who steals the show as an eccentric, adrenalin junkie hunter. |
Race with the Devil (1975)
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-obMCJSi6p9..._the_devil.jpg Excellent 70's Action Horror - think Rosemary's Baby meets The Road Warrior starring the excellent Peter Fonda and Warren Oates. One of my favourites as a kid and to me it still stands up. |
Executive Action (1973)
http://reasoningconspiracy.files.wor...1020681901.jpg I can't believe I never heard of this movie until The Projection Booth Podcast covered it. It's an excellent 70's docudrama about the conspiracy to kill Kennedy. It's fast paced and has great use of archive footage - a great alternative to Stone's JFK. |
The Long Good Friday (1980)
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...0,214,317_.jpg Flawless, Classic Brit Gangster film with great performances all round. Keep an eye out for an early Pierce Brosnan role (as an IRA hitman). When a film has a character called Razors you know you are onto a winner. |
I love The Good Long Friday, it reminds me of Miami Vice in style, but it's way better than Miami Vice ever was. One of the best gangster movies of the Eighties.
