Very good answer, Des.

Please do NOT edit it until Judge Hammerfan has a chance to read, evaluate and award her points.

Good effort.

Um, Avi? I already sent you my verdict.

_____V_____ 05-20-2008 09:33 AM

Yes you did, esteemed Judge.

Judge Hammerfan has declared her verdict!!

Finalist Despare, you have been awarded...

...09 POINTS out of a possible 10!! Excellent!

You have also been rewarded by Judge Hammerfan. And your award is...

A ROCKET LAUNCHER WITH 2 ROCKETS LOADED IN IT!!

Way to go, Despare.

You can stand aside now. The third finalist, Psycom5K, is ready with his choice...

Despare 05-20-2008 09:35 AM

Woohoo, nice question Hammerfan, I didn't want to tell you that before judging though, lest I be called a suck-up. :)

Rayne 05-20-2008 09:35 AM

@ Despare: Now that Hammerfan has made her verdict...I'm gonna say that I think you left out one (somewhat important) factor.

It has to do with desensitization...Comparing the time periods and exposure between the generations

Very true but I think that desensitization is tough to include because the market hasn't been saturated with such films. Even the later Exorcist films didn't have the impact and to be honest, even though I've watched thousands of horror films, The Exorcist STILL chills me in a way different from most horror. I was thinking that our societies concept and views of religion could have had more of impact that desensitization.

The third choice has been made.

Finalist PSYCOM5K has chosen.

And the chosen envelope is opened...

...which reveals a piece of paper saying...

JUDGE

...NEVERENDING!!

Door #2 OPENS!

...And Judge NeverEnding walks in, and sits across from Finalist Psycom5K.

Judge NeverEnding's query to Psycom5K - "Who is the greatest composer of horror film soundtracks, and why?"

You have 1 hour to think over your answer, and post it in this thread accordingly, Psycom5K.

Your answer will be then analyzed and awarded points on a scale of 0-10 by the Judge, who will then proceed to decide if you will incur any sort of punishment OR get any sort of reward for it.

Good luck...think it over carefully, and then reply your answer IN THIS THREAD!

FAILURE TO ANSWER WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR WILL INCUR JUDGE NEVERENDING'S WRATH AND YOU WILL BE RECEIVING A BRUTAL PUNISHMENT FROM HIM!!

I agree with you, but I think it could have been added as an 'also'

I realize that there aren't really a huge amount of movies specifically about demon possession (as I was trying to think of as many as I could just now), but as for horror in general, I think that much of what this generation has been exposed to is far more intense or 'shocking' than anything the previous generations have seen...Which would give this generation more of a 'been there, done that, not too impressed' vibe.

Know what I mean?

And that's why I gave you such a high score. I completely agree with you. I've watched several possession movies since The Exorcist, and none of them has had the impact on me that The Exorcist did.

I have a different view. The movies that come out today (with a few exceptions) are what I call "slice-n-dice". They hold no interest for me whatsoever. I don't find it scary at all. If I want to see gore, I'll watch Discovery Health Channel. The things that really scare me are monsters, ghosts, the things you can't see, etc.

I don't know, maybe it's because I'm older? Who knows. Maybe just a different opinion.

There is NOTHING like it in my opinion.

Yeah, the jaded youth doesn't know what they're missing sometimes.
