The Hunger Games.
Never read the books, but this was a really impressive movie to me.
The musical score really set the tone very well throughout, that's one thing I noticed more than most other aspects.
Everyone played their parts very well, even those that were intended to be over the top. Woody Harrelson finally gets a part that doesn't make you roll your eyes the entire time, that surprised me.
I also have to say, and I didn't expect this - but the scene where
***No more spoiler than the trailer I suppose***
the main character Katniss is taken away after volunteering in place of her sister, and the subsequent "goodbye" scene
actually had me really feeling for them - It was quite saddening.
The violence is...brutal while not showing piles of gore...it's atmospheric, tense, and it's very interesting to see the reactions of the characters to their situation - Overall, I was very happy with this one, one of the better new films I've seen in a while.
Also - to the people bent on saying it's a battle royale rip-off, it's really not like BR at all...there's a few similarities I suppose, but they're skin-deep at most.
8/10 for me.

Chain Reaction aka House of Blood (2006)

Though the screenplay & some characterization & acting were kinda average sometime but this English language German horror flick from Olaf Ittenbach delivers some nice gory moments with a quite interesting premise: The Prisoners of Doom! Seems bit inspired by modern classics like The Evil Dead & From Dusk till Dawn. Dan van Husen was great in that creepy psychopath character. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sennentuntschi: Curse of the Alps (2010)

Quote:

An Alpine legend tells the story of three lonely herdsmen who were so starved of female companionship they built the girl of their dreams from a broom, some straw and a few rags. Then the Devil took pity and made Sennentuntschi live and breathe. This fable informs the first ever shocker from Switzerland, a complex and twisted tale of past crimes, tragic love, ghostly encounters, horrendous murder, unexplained suicide and sexual enslavement. Continually surprising, brilliantly directed and superbly acted, this unusual and beguiling mystery chiller finally puts Switzerland on the genre map.
The first horror-thriller from Switzerland! Pretty well made & twisted! Liked it.

Rites of Passage (2011)

Cliched film with a decent cast but a stupid story. Someone did a good joke on its imdb entry...where it says it's Comedy! :D

I actually liked this one better than the Swedish film.

"21 Jump Street" 7-8/10

Good fun.

Not that i saw a whole lot of resemblance to the popular tv series other than the Depp and DeLuise cameos. But what the hell, as long as i'm laughing i'm happy.

And Jonah Hill has lost weight. Good for him. Maybe he'll reach 40 afterall. :)
