Chinatown.

Great, great film.

Never understood why it's called a "neo-noir" and not just a noir film...probably because it's a different period. I mean, it's not the colour because Vertigo's in colour and that's often considered an example of film noir.

Yeah, it's mainly just the time period that determines whether something is film noir or neo-noir. Neo-noir also often expands on themes and styles present in film noir.

The Innkeepers

Great chemistry between the cast and really masterfully directed (bet this looked amazing on the big screen) but I ultimately came out of this disappointed. The effective tense slow burn pace of the film just lead to nothing but lukewarm scares and a painfully clichd final scene. I felt a bit robbed especially since The House Of The Devil literally exploded after the drawn out build up. Well crafted and stylish but it just didn't quite get there at the end.

Good splattery trashy fun. Really dug the segment Wadzilla which was like if Frank Henenlotter made a film with the Zucker brothers :D

Effectively creepy Spanish Lovecraft-ian tale.

Both films are not separate but follow each other in continuation. Whereas the first film was pretty decent in atmosphere and conveying lurking terror, the second was a slightly more disappointing outing. The acting could have been better, although the superstar of Spanish horror, Paul Naschy, makes his presence felt in both. These films touch on the Cthulhu mythos and fans will be delighted to see Lovecraft, Aleister Crowley and even Bram Stoker on-screen! (portrayed by actors of course, in the first) Where the films miss out are on characterisation and storyline - it is not directly referenced from any Lovecraftian tale but feels like a mish-mash of several stories weaved into one.

All in all, if you are a die-hard fan of Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos, track these down. Semi-decent stuff.

Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore (2010)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...HEROFGORE1.jpg

Craftily directed by Frank Henenlotter and Jimmy Maslon, this is a beautifully entertaining documentary for fans of Lewis's work.
It's like an outrageous ride through the wild world of exploitation films with often-hilarious back stories, this is a creative and enthralling documentary about the birth of the gore film, among other things, packed with great interviews, numerous clips, rare outtakes galore and testimony from the people who were there, delivers a brief experience of a decade of motion-picture madness, it's a fitting tribute to one of horror cinema's living legends; The Godfather of Gore.

Loved the final clips that taken from Chiller Theatre Expo, 2005, East Rutherford, NJ where the living legends of Two Thousand Maniacs! sings along with Lewis on the stage...."There's a story you should know from a hundred years ago..."
