Impressive. But given my reverence for all things Hitchcock, I might be blinded by my judgement here. A nice weekend watch, obviously more so if you are an ardent fan of the man as I am.

I'm excited for this - Thanks for the reminder... Have you seen The Girl yet?

Not yet. Hasn't been on any channels around here yet. How is it?

Admittedly I haven't seen it yet, either - I think I can probably watch it on HBO Go... Was wondering if it's made its rounds yet with our esteemed viewers. :D

Last night I watched The Girl (2012).

I've read that this movie about Hitchcock's obsessive relationship with The Birds and Marnie leading actress Tippi Hedren is historically inaccurate, or at least exaggerated. Given that some of the basis for the story comes from Hedren's personal accounts, I have to believe that it's at least loosely rooted in fact. However, "Alfie"'s spiral into near-insanity as portrayed in the movie's final chapter, to me, bordered on caricature, and is hard to buy into. Given that the rest of the film, save for a few good creepy moments -- Hitchcock throwing himself on her during a limo ride, his (implied) intentional shattering of the phone booth glass while she was inside, his 5-day marathon assault on her with real birds in the attic scene -- was actually pretty uneventful and not particularly tense, it's hard to give this movie much of a recommendation. It was interesting from a historical perspective, but average as a drama or thriller. As a Hitchcock fan, I may have enjoyed it more than I expect most would, but that's not saying a lot.

5/10.

The Revenant

A big thank you to ChronoGrl for recommending this. I really liked it.

It was funny without overloading the humor and without being stupid. It was surprisingly dark at all the right places and the story kept evolving so that it never got boring or predictable. It started to lose focus around the vigilante gunslinger part but it explored a realistic scenario that people might experience if given the chance to be immortal and it gave way to the awesome last part of the movie. I loved the ending. So depressing and sad and the very last sequence was excellent.

I recommend this.

Evil Dead

They changed enough for it to be its own thing but had enough call backs and style that you knew it was an Evil Dead flick. You know when things will happen... you've seen it all before... you just don't know HOW shit's going to hit the fan. Groovy.

A group of young girls are taken out on a houseboat in a sort of intervention outing but the trouble begins after the boat breaks down & the girls started to chased down one by one by a pair of psycho killers. Slow & average.

Set in a remote English village, Elfie Hopkins, an aspiring young detective, likes to spend most of the time along with her geeky best friend, Dylan, by investigating the villagers and upsetting everyone with their imaginative allegations. But Elfie's mundane existence is thrown for a spin with the arrival of a mysterious family of trendy city dwellers, the Gammons, in her neighborhood.

The cast & production value for this Britt horror-thriller were pretty good, I was even started to liking it but at the end it suffered for its rush ending where they unexpectedly killed off lots of characters.

The concept of shadow people or even sleep paralysis is always interesting, IMO but found it bit annoying as here they unnecessarily tried too much on creating the mood or a 'belief' that the whole thing is based on true events and which I found quite unconvincing. Every time (after almost every 10 minutes) the pace of the film got distracted by those "real life footage" of interviewing people of what they think or where they were at the time while something happened mysterious or about someone or about the news...blah..blah etc. Overall, a decent idea failed to impress for a disappointing treatment.

Curandero: Dawn of the Demon (2005)

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps650cfaec.jpg

Written and co-produced by Robert Rodriguez, the story of Curandero begins when the federal agent Magdalena calls upon the local curandero for his services to purify a police station(!), the two suddenly find themselves immersed in a satanic cult's blood-thirsty battleground. Loved this idea where everyone in a typical Mexican town (from the police force to the underworld crime syndicates) believes in witchcraft & demons and how they seriously dealing with these horrifying issues. But I guess as an indie flick initially there were some problems with the background music as sometimes it seems there were no sounds in the background while there was a conversation between the characters and that's kinda made it bit odd to watch at times. But overall, nice idea with lots of gore but could have been a lot better with a better budget, I guess.

Somewhat 70's European style an erotic vampire flick with a very simple story about a nice writer guy Paolo falling 'desperately' in love with a hot vampire lady named Djuna & things starts to get kinda 'steamy' after the arrival of Djuna's trouble-making sister Mimi in the mansion. The two hot French hotties on the lead made it convincingly 'watchable' till the last frame of the movie.

Chernobyl Diaries (2012)

Almost forgot that I watched this because, honestly, it's wholly unforgettable. Common, derivative, and almost laughably checks the box for every 20-somethings-go-wandering-and-find-monsters movie trope.
