And when you say video-game i'll bet you're referring to the long 1 take scene where the lead dude is running around firing a shot-gun, right? ;)

Yep, and when he's walkin' around with the SMG. Shoots a guy, a door pops open to reveal a baddie and he shoots, walks around the corner and has to duck back because he gets shot at...

This is my second Dan Chupong movie (the first being Dynamite Warrior) and I'm starting to warm up to him. I would like to see him work with Jaa for sure.

.

We're talking about the same scene.

One helluva action movie.
Some of the action is just far out and plain silly, like some of the sports characters. No chance in hell they would ever last 2 minutes in a war zone like that without playing dead. But what the fuck, it's just a movie.

Yes and yes, the one legged sports guy was ridiculous and great.

Which did you like better? I originally thought Aragami was the best but 2LDK snuck up on me and I'd (BARELY) give that one the edge.

Azumi

I can't wait to see Midnight Meat Train, I may get a Blockbuster membership just to rent it early and then cancel it. (Somebody told me you can rent it at BB now.)

bloodwavedvd 09-23-2008 12:27 PM

There's A Secret In My Soup. It was pretty good.

zwoti 09-23-2008 03:34 PM

fatal contact

scaryladi232 09-24-2008 03:52 PM

Jiu ming also know as koma very interesting hitchcock like film with the suspense i recomend you all watch it.

bloodwavedvd 09-26-2008 09:47 AM

Whispering Corridors. I little slow and relatively bloodless but still pretty good.

ChronoGrl 10-06-2008 07:17 PM

Tokyo Gore Police As I mentioned in the thread I started, fantastic splatterpunk. I highly recommend. A/A+

Kamikaze Girls - Beautifully stylized character journey/chick adventure piece. Gorgeous and interesting with some pretty amazing costumes. Absolutely adorable overall, though it slowed down some in the middle and its latter half. B+

I have FINALLY completed the vengeance trilogy by watching Lady Vengeance last night.

Every movie that I watch by him just punctuates the fact that Chan-wook Park is a cinematic God.

I thought that Lady Vengeance was brilliant - He has an absolute knack for creating truly tragic characters. What was interesting about this installment in the Trilogy is that the character Geum-ja Lee is just as much an instrument/medium for Vengeance as a vengeance-driven individual. I think that Chan-wook Park took an even different look at vengeance and evolved the concept to a new level.

In terms of ranking the movies, I'm having a difficult time doing so; Part of me looks at Mr. Vengeance as being my favorite of the three, though Old Boy is so beautifully tortured and disturbing I can't count it out. As to where Lady Vengeance fits, I would say that its theme is more similar to Mr. Vengeance than Old Boy, but I'm not sure if I'd necessarily rank it higher.

Regardless, Chan-wook Park is one of my absolute favorite directors and Lady Vengeance gets an A+.

Have you guys seen Chan-wook Park's other movies? Any recommendations? The only other one I've seen is "Cut," his installment of Three... Extremes.

The_Return 10-12-2008 01:10 PM

I've got to watch the rest of the Vengeance trilogy...I own all three, but for some reason I've only watched Oldboy (which is easily one of my favourite Asian movies).

Blackheart 10-12-2008 02:51 PM

I think the last one I saw was Machine Girl a couple months ago.Should watch a few more soon.

Painfulldeath 10-14-2008 03:03 PM

Finally saw Ringu. It's slightly better than the remake though the scare factor goes away since I saw the American film 5 years ago:mad:

Whoops. What I meant to say is that I saw the remake 5 years ago. Basically the original is a better movie even though you're not scared anymore once you know the plot. Hey, I see you watched lady Vengeance lately. I saw Oldboy last night and I'm still in shock of how amazing it was...How's Mr. Vengeance?

Best from the trilogy.

Agreed.

Though Oldboy and Lady Vengeance are stunning pieces of art in their own right. If you enjoyed Oldboy, then you HAVE to watch the other two. Park is simply brilliant.

Oldboy is my boyfriend's favorite, though.

Painfulldeath 10-15-2008 10:18 AM

Really? Sounds like I'll be watching it tonight. I figured I'll start with the first and finish off with Lady Vengeance. Thanks for the feedback guys.:)

I prefer Oldboy as well, one of my favorite films. But I think now that Mr. Vengeance is every bit as good, I was just so taken with Oldboy (and I did see it first) that it was hard for it to top that one.

Now Lady Vengeance is by far the weaker film of the three in my opinion....but still very good.

Painfulldeath 10-16-2008 06:27 PM

So I saw Mr. Vengeance. It was excellent though I was expecting a faster pace, sort of like Oldboy. But I guess Oldboy was inspired by a Manga where as this one must be Park's original screenplay. I heard that "Joint Security Area" is also a great movie. Anyone else seen it?

It's on my Netflix queue. I should move it up. I need a Park fix.

I agree with you about Mr. Vengeance... I thought it was slow at first but I was absolutely intrigued and glued to the scene... And it escalates so horrifyingly beautifully...

You should complete the triad with Lady Vengeance when you get a chance. I think that it might actually be just as good as Mr. Vengeance.

Ok. I'll let you know when I do. I can't seem to get that Oldboy Soundtrack out of my head. Especially the song that's playing during the fighting sequences. I think I'm obsessed with that movie. Help!

Painfulldeath 10-19-2008 07:49 AM

Last Asian movie I saw was Visitor Q. Very weird but funny too. I recommend it to anyone who is open to seeing strange and disturbing things.:D

Ometiklan 10-19-2008 05:51 PM

Matango. aka. Attack of the Mushroom People.
This one is in My opinion Toho's creepiest film.

You are having the same reaction I had. I never heard of Oldboy till this forum and when I finally watched it-I thought about it for months. Scenes still pop up unbiden to this day.
I see people with longish black hair of asian descent and want to follow them:eek:
oops TMI-forget the last sentence, I mean- I don't.. actually follow them..or anything........really.

Hooray! Someone else that has the same obsession as me. The movie is just that damn good. Lord knows if I saw someone look like Dae Su, I would probably stalk him for a few weeks...just to spice up my seemingly dull life.;) I still can't get that fricking song out of my head and it's been almost a week now. Maybe I should get the ringtone...:D

I watched Joint Security Area directed by Chan Wook-Park. It's a very good military movie with a lot of the same cast from the Vengeance Trilogy. Check it out.

That's a really cool movie, have you seen " I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK " yet? I've been waiting to see that one for ages it seems. His new vampire movie Thirst seems pretty cool, I think it's funny that another name for it is listed as Evil Live and in his Cut segment on 3 Extremes they were making a vampire movie called Live Evil haha.

jenna26 10-20-2008 04:04 PM

Whispering Corridors ~not terrible, but kind of a bore really.

Lol. No but I am planning on watching it sometime soon. I still haven't watched The 3 extremes yet either ..I heard that it's pretty disturbing.

jenna26 10-20-2008 06:43 PM

Phone ~ predictable, but well made and manages to be plenty creepy, mostly thanks to the little girl, she was really good in her role. Definitely the standout in my opinion.
