Hmmm, good question. It depends, do you have another, marginally better than average movie recommendation that will fit neatly into a 100 minute size hole in my viewing schedule?

First 45 minutes were spent looking for the scares, and the next 45 minutes delivered things in a whoosh. Plot gaps and glaring errors aside, they tried their best to emulate the original as much as they can. But sadly, the original had something really big in it's favor - it's THE original!

And moreover, when such happenings are going on in the house, the father and daughter decide to stay all night at the vet's to stay with the dog and leave the mother and baby son unguarded?

The original was creepy. Scary enough to keep me and the wife awake long after it was over. This one, well, we went to bed almost immediately after it was over, and sleep came within 10 minutes. Explains much?

There are a couple of scenes with really jumpy scares, but you have to wait 50-odd minutes to catch them. Other than those, it's a pretty much forgettable experience. I don't even remember most of it right now as I type this.

"Next" 8-9/10

Really, really liked this one.

Loved the idea behind the story and the skillful way the director constantly toyed with it as well as the audience. Lots of cool diverse scenes, such as the cafe pick-up scene that brought back delightful memories of "Groundhog day". Also thought the dialogue was strong throughout, the pacing was perfect, and both Cage & Biels characters were downright adorable.

Must be my favorite Nicholas Cage flick to date.


The only issues I had with it was:

1. The ending was disappointing. I wanted more when the credits started to roll.

2. No sequals. :( :( :(

I was quite disappointed in Parnormal Activity 2 and agree with your sentiments about it ____V____ especially how it just wasn't as creepy as the original. I can let the plotholes slide but I was hoping to be left feeling as uneasy as the original left me after watching it.

Tucker & Dale Vs Evil

I really enjoyed this one. Went into it blind just knowing it was a horror/comedy and had a blast. The best film of it's type I've seen in years. Dug the original concept of it compared to the majority of stuff released in this subgenre. Lots of fun with some very likeable characters.

I should have known it wasn't gonna happen.

They turned an original effort into a cash-cow and god knows what ridiculous things we are gonna see in PA 3 which is scheduled for Halloween this year.

And how long will they stretch this one? 7-8 like the Saw series?

Expect it to go downhill, fast.

I just wanted PA2 to be longer- it felt rushed to me, while PA took the time to create atmosphere and let the suspense build.

I thought the setting was great and they had some great characters, plus the addition of the dog was a big plus which could have added some real spookiness into the atmosphere with it's instinctive behavior. I don't know...they could have done without the first 30-odd minutes and added some more suspense into the whole thing. Like you said, it felt rushed and as if no afterthought was given to the whole product on the editing table or the first screenings.

I wait to be proved wrong with PA3, although I severely doubt it.

Perhaps I wasn't in right mood or I missed something there or whatever the reason but I saw the original PA only once & it left nothing much of an impression after I watched it then. Though I obviously found it interesting & a decent flick overall but at the end it was just another POV feature that they done pretty cleverly within their limitations. But yeah...the PA2 looked quite promising in the trailers and agree with V that it had a nice premise & characters that they could utilize with more added drama, tension or precisely more spookiness.

And who knows...may be we get to see the demon next time like the funny kind of way Wan showed in the INSIDIOUS. :D
