Baby Face (1933)

Ballsy, seductive, and shocking. A powerful film that holds its own after 74 years.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This was my second viewing...loved it the first time, and was even better now. Less time spent trying to figure out what was going on, and more time to immerse yourself. Easily one of the best overall films in years, and probably Carrey's best performance yet. The girlfriend was a tad confused, but she liked it :)

That was this afternoon...tonight I had a little "gettogther" (I hesitate to say "party") with a bunch of friends, and had some movies going in the background for awhile:

Airplane!
Masters of Horror: Cigarette Burns

Ive seen both multiple times...great movies for totally different reasons. Didnt really sit down and watch either of 'em this time, but I caught the majority.

Frankenfish. 06/10

Nice sleazy fun. Excellent combination with the popcorn, notwithstanding the numerous holes in the script and direction. Recommended for entertainment only.

The Bridges of Madison County. 09/10

Quite easily the best movie I ve seen in awhile. Eastwood is completely believable and perfect in his character, and Streep does an equally excellent job. Great atmosphere, touching ending. A good adaptation of the equally well-famous book. One of the most underrated movies ever IMO. Highly recommended from me.

World Trade Centre - finally finished it. extremely tough movie to watch.

important film - well made - well handled - proper focus.

John Carpenter's The Thing

Well, I wasn't real crazy about this movie the first time I wacthed it, but since it is so highly regarded, I thought I'd better give it another go since I may just not have been in the right frame of mind or something. Anyways, I did enjoy it slightly more than the first time I watched it, but I still would have to call it highly over-rated if it's anyone's top 10 list, let alone the top 10 of our cumulative top 100 list. The story's pretty good, the acting is fine, the gore is decent, but the movie just seems to move along pretty slowly and I often would find myself thinking about something else entirely. The ending was alright though. All in all, this movie took a step up in my book upon second viewing, but I still think it gets over-rated quite severely.

..is this the boring and polished Oliver Stone version ? ....Oliver Stone better die soon so he doesnt fuck up his reputation completly...how can a man who gave us movies like "Wallstreet", "Natural Born Killers" and "JFK" make bad American hero propaganda like this ?

Silent Night Deadly Night 2...one of the worst sequels ever made...the whole movie is just flashbacks from the first  ...pure shit...the first one is watchable though...

The Omen(original). 09/10

Hands down this is one of the creepiest movies ever made. It does leave the feeling of the bizarre when the end credits roll. Gregory Peck is magnificient, and the rest of the cast rally up nicely around him. Great tense moments, with perfect timed background score by Jerry Goldsmith. Excellently paced by Richard Donner, who is arguably the best director in Hollywood, IMO. Great, great movie. Intensely surprising is the fact that The Omen didnt make it into the top 10 of the HDC Top 100 list. It certainly books a place in my Top 10 Horror movies of all time.

i recomend it.....even if just for dustin hoffman and alan rickman alone.....weird ass film and very real at times but then really surreal.

Started working my way through Avant Garde: Experimental Cinema of the 20's and 30's...

Over my head, I guess. It's a collection of short, experimental films...I watched 3 or 4, all Im getting out of them is a bunch of random images and classical music. Weird is good, but weird for weirds sake...eh, not so much.

I doubt I'll watch much more of this collection...glad I only rented it...

Just watched The Life and Death of 9413, a Hollywood Extra from this set, and thought it was very cool. I guess I'll check out a few more...

I want to see this so badly. I plan on doing so this weekend.

Went I went to see Dustin Hoffman get his Lifetime Achievement Award, he made an excellent speech about the forthcoming of great talent into the industry, and said he was going to take part in it as much as possible. This is his second in a long line of not-so-mainstream movies with not-so-large parts. Whadda' guy! Can't wait to see this!

joshaube 01-03-2007 07:18 PM

Crank;
enjoyable.

Phalanx 01-03-2007 08:06 PM

I loved Crank...not so much the plotline, but just how 100mph it was from the get go...it was all kindsa frantic like crazy, some great stuntwork, interesting visuals, and a kickass thumpworthy soundtrack. Good stuff...means it'll be out on dvd here soon, definately be grabbing this one myself.

Watched "Clerks 2" for the first time.
Very unlike the first, but enjoyable all the same.

Children of the Night

I watched this with no expectations at all. It started out rather illogically with 2 girls going for a recreational swim in a flooded crypt (Wtf?). Well, they end up waking a vampire while they are in there and pretty run of the mill vampiric carnage ensues. The ending offers us some pretty low quality CGI. Average acting, average gore, stupid storyline. It was tolerable, but certainly not one I'd recommend.

Left Behind

My wife reads the books but I never have and now I know why. This movie was WAAAAY too preachy. The plot was interesting enough, but the film ended just as things were starting to get interesting. The acting was alright, the story was intriguing, but the execution was terrible. If there is a sequel to this though, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Over the Hedge

This was a little preachy, but overall fun and light-hearted. It's no Madagascar (My favorite animated family flick in recent years) but it's still a pretty entertaining little film.

STILL have to finish off Are You Scared?
I have TCM: The Beginning and The Darkroom to watch too.
I also want to see The Host (2006).

Invisble Ghost.

urgeok 01-04-2007 02:24 AM

The Nutty Professor (eddie murphy)

pretty crude considering we were watching it with our 6 year old ...
my wife and i were cringing - a lot -
but it was pretty funny in places ... especially the hamster madness at the beginning.

nothing funnier than the sight of a million hamsters running all over the place.

slasherman 01-04-2007 02:35 AM

...so I got hold of a movie called "Silk" aka "Guisi " looks pretty interesting...gonna watch it tonight...maybe this belongs in the Japanese section but I dont care

the_real_linda 01-04-2007 05:35 AM

saw.........what a surprise

joshaube 01-04-2007 07:46 AM

Are You Scared?
Yes, it's a rip-off of SAW... much like The Hillside Stranglers, Snakes on a Train, and The Child. Only it's better made then those. It's not amazing, nor is it completely terrible. Most people won't like it, but I did. The first half is boring, but it does have some cool traps (the twin drill trap) - once the twist comes in the second act, it gets more interesting. Good ending too, I thought. Very eerie. The acting was the only terrible thing I noticed - it's obvious the director has some talent. The camera angles were better then most B/C movies (expecially the overhead pans... suprised they had the lift to do those). The setting has very fake-looking. Like... the skies looked CGI, as well as all the lights on the traps. But it wasn't BAD CGI, it gave it a fantasy-like look. Atmospheric, if anything. Script was bad; stereotypical black male character was included.

Doesn't touch any of the SAW movies, but if you're a fan of those it's worth checking out.

newb 01-04-2007 08:13 AM

Little Miss Sunshine--very enjoyable little flic. Funny with tender moments that didn't get too sappy.

Damien: Omen II. 06/10

More than decent sequel to the original classic masterpiece. It stayed faithful to the book as much as possible, although William Holden tried his best to emulate Gregory Peck but failed. The raven sequences were great to watch though, and the movie had its surreal moments. Yet nowhere as good as the original. Nicely directed and pacy thoughout.

An American Werewolf in Paris. 06/10

Talking about sequels, this one was behind in all departments where the original had excelled. The acting, direction, pace, effects and sound all were paler in comparison, although the movie does hold off on its own and has some excellent moments of atmospheric bizarreness. Anyone who wants to see this, watch it with a more open mind, and you will enjoy it.
