oh yeah, what im looking for is a movie where the hero gets a shit load of revenge, the hero is a total bad ass, and the hero fucks eveyone up hardcore. best example ive seen yet is Wake Of Death. Its kinda what i was expecting for oldboy..you know.."15 years of imprisonment, 5 days of vengeance". really kinda ended up 1 day of vengeance and four days of figuring out shit.
I know, those type of movies are usually pretty generic, but i just love them so much. anyy sugestions? |

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
This movie sucks. It's unfortunate, but I am starting to realize that Will Ferrell, as funny as he is, simply is not capable of carrying an entire movie on his own and that's what he is asked to do here. There were a handful of funny parts, but on the whole it would seem as if Ferrell is following in the footsteps of his SNL compadres by starting out his film career strong and then quickly descending downhill. I was not very entertained. D+ The Descent Well, I didn't hate this, but I didn't think it was as good as I had been hearing either. My main gripe with this film was that the whole thing was too frickin' dark. It was hard to tell who was who or what was going on because there wasn't any light. Now, I realize they are in a cave & it's supposed to be dark, but I don't pay money to go sit and stare into the darkness of a cave, I pay to be entertained. The acting was good, the gore was average. The nude cavemen were pretty lame & suprisingly pussy. The ending got just a tad confusing. All in all, it wasn't my favorite film of the year, but I didn't hate it either... B- See No Evil This type of horror movie is right up my alley. Starts fast & keeps going with plenty of blood & guts, decent story, decent acting, etc... I actually enjoyed this one more than I thought I was gonna. Kane plays a pretty nasty villain. B- |

Ironically, I felt these were all strong points of the film. The darkness and illusion fucked with our heads, bringing back the old Lewton strategy of "scaring without showing". Sometimes panic is the scariest feeling possible. Halfway through the film we are shown that these "monsters" do have weaknesses, and they are, in a way, human. This evokes a feeling of disgust and pity, and raises a battle in which we really don't know who will triumph. It's one of those films with a hugely fictional basis we actually find ourselves believing. Or at least that's the way I felt about it. |

 Stay Alive. 04/10
Entertaining in parts, but ridiculous in others. It had a good premise, but fell flat in the scare department. Countess Bathory wasnt that scary in her looks, and fell rather tamely in the end, for someone who could cause so much death and destruction throughout the movie. The acting wasnt great, and the direction was pointless. The game looked great though. It would have been better if they had made the movie like a FPS horror-survival game or something. At least it would have been a semi-decent watch. |

Which order should I watch these, to build atmosphere?
The Nun When A Stranger Calls The Hitcher 3 Extremes |

Put the Hitcher for the end. I d suggest starting off with When a Stranger Calls, The Nun, 3 Extremes & climax it with The Hitcher.

 The Descent
even more fun the second time around |

Picked up The Descent last night...
Really, really enjoyed it. Great story, loved the ending. Just a fun time all the way around. Only thing is I just wish I had seen it in the theater. |

So begins my New Years movie marathon,
with a few footlong subs, a jumbo-pack of M&Ms and all the pop a person could drink. So far I'm two films in; House of the Dead I read all the reviews. I noted all your opinions. And I got what I expected; utter shit. :p Return said it's a good party flick, and I can see that. It certainly is one of those... action-horror you can have on in the background and just laugh at. It plays out like a sci-fi movie of the week; the acting, effects, all play out in that manner. Expect in those cases, budget is the weakening... here it was just lack of care from the director. It seemed very amateur; I mean... game clips, zombies that look pathetic, matrix-rips, and some terrible camera shots? Ew. For a theatrical movie, there's no excuse. Boll says he's reviewed unfairly... but when you make films like this, I don't see what else you could be expecting. The Nun From the cover and synapsis, this seems like a typical C movie. I rented in by reccomendation of Rubenmania, and I am glad I did. It's pretty good, and like him, I wonder why it wasn't released theatrically (though I can guess the answer why they chose not to). Visually, it has a high production backing it. Slickly directed, with above-average effects. The storyline was pretty good too, even if the ending used an over-played twist and most of the other twists were predictable. A good slasher-esque film, and I'm the type who usually hates them. Reminded me of Final Destination, in some sense. Good kills, good gore, and an inventive and unique story. Worth a watch IMO. Next up... When a Stranger Calls and The Hitcher later on. |

Ok, now for the third installment in my marathon... When A Stranger Calls (orig.) I watched the remake first, theatrically, and this kicked the shit out of that like I expected. It's a three-act story, which can be classified as two different genres. Horror, and criminal-mystery. The first act was basic, I knew what would happen and there was no surprise. This was the act the remake was SOLELY based on. The second act was very enjoyable; and kept my interest throughout. BUT THE THIRD ACT was my favorite. I don't know why, but throughout the entire act my heart was just pounding. Perhaps its because I have two real-life fears; 1) Camping; the thought of someone outside my tent. annnd... 2) The thought of someone in my house, watching me. I am also babysitting my two cousins (aged 1 and 4) and my grandparent's ancient dog who can't protect worth shit (barely stands up :p) for the night, so perhaps those are some factors that played a part. Definitely a film I enjoyed, had my heart-rate up, and would recommend. :) Next up; The Hitcher and Are You Scared? if I can stay up |

 The Evil Dead
been a damn long time since ive seen it. |

The Changeling -- Good movie with a great actor (George C. Scott). The ending kinda left me cold, but overall it was a good watch. The ball bouncing down the stairs was the scariest thing for me.
Fear of the Dark -- Rented it some time back for like 50 cents and picked up a used copy for a few bucks. Although I've heard people trash this movie, I really like it. The "dark things" are creepy and just plain freak me out. Would recommend this to joshaube as one of the B/C movies definitely worth a look. |

 Date Movie.
the cat on the toilet scene had my wife and i in tears. unfortunately i didnt get any of the TV parodies (other than to realize that they were TV parodies) |

Heebie - I've seen Fear of the Dark and it definately had something unique to it; I enjoyed it although not being an overall well-crafted film. The dark-things were pretty creepy.
4th film in the marathon... The Hitcher This was by far the best film I watched tonight; kept my interest throughout, and I really, really liked it. I can't really explain any further then that. The actor in the lead role had a real attraction to him, he fit the part well, and I expecially liked him above anyone else. I guess that's a quality the "good guy" has to have. The hitcher just pissed me off for obvious reasons :p At first I was thinking the hitchhiker in this film was the same hitchhiker in HBO's "The Hitchhiker" TV series. Buuut, it turns out it wasn't. They sort of look the same, though... don't they? Or maybe my memory is just foggy. Anyway, yeah, reccomended to anyone and everyone - check it out. It's a good flick :) PS. I'm starting to understand why everyone here seems to hate remakes. It's not like you can improve The Hitcher, and yet... a remake is being made with a rookie director fresh from music videos of Britany Spears, and a script from the same writer who brought us When a Stranger Calls 06. Great. It seems to me all these remake directors are trying to do is feel like they are the ones who created it in the first place - disrespectful. Make your own films, stop plagurizing someone else. Except for those few instances where a director CAN improve an older film (Alexandre Aja) - but even he prooved himself with HT. I'm popping in Are You Scared? now simply because it gives me the vibe of Cube Zero - that no-budget, cheap-acting sort of vibe that I quite enjoy. Plus it's a rip-off of Saw, and if nothing else, I can enjoy some traps as I fall asleep. I probably won't get through it all, so here's a "top list" of what I watched tonight; 1. The Hitcher 2. When A Stranger Calls 3. The Nun 4. House of the Dead |

 The Pursuit of Happyness
You know, I dont usually go for these "feel-good" kind of movies, but this was actually pretty enjoyable. Great cast and (sappy as it may be) a pretty good story to boot. I probably wouldnt watch it again, but it was definitely 2 hours well spent:) |

 Desperate Measures, I liked it.

Was that the Michael Keaton one?
Yeah, I liked that a lot too...assuming I'm thinking of the right film. Guy can play apeshit psycho pretty well. |
