Don't Torture a Duckling (1972) http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/7...eaduckling.jpg Probably as I have seen quite a number of Giallos, the killer here was predictable to me at the very first appearance on screen. But it's a pretty good mystery thriller indeed with a compelling subject matter. Surely one of the very finest films from Fulci. >>: A- |
Triangle: I quite enjoyed this one. It looked to be your typical haunted ghost ship type of fare, but it was something altogether different.

Red (2010). Back in perfect form, Willis and company turn out a wonderful blend of action and comedy in this fun thriller. The story is nothing new, but the delivery was everything, fresh and stylish. Nuanced with playful transitions, the silliness of plot is forgiven with its sheer power to entertain. Action fans will not be disappointed, and those in need of romance will find this a perfect date movie. As for the acting, Malkovich is cream rightfully risen to the fore of the top-notch cast. In short, this is a flick that should find easy repose in most every audience.

6 out of 10 Very interesting movie from the land down under. Wasn't the best horror movie I've ever seen, but not as bad as some people have claimed it to be. |

Cronicas (2004). Just how far will our ambitions take us, and more importantly, just how high will our rationalizations delineate how low our endeavors will sink in order to promote our greatest cause- ourselves? This flick explores this and more with unflinching resolve, dark entertainment in the exploration of souls as they become indelibly stained by the blackened inks of journalism. The acting was superb, with John Leguizamo at the helm of this ethical thriller. Top marks are to be thrown to Damian Alcazar's way. His character was a splendidly confusing mix of a hapless yokel that might just be housing more than just a sickening secret. The direction of this disturbing story was perfect, though its nauseating subject matter might detract from its entertaining value. The camera work demonstrated an animated sense of tumultuous emotion, using creative motion to extricate inner turmoil out of otherwise mundane scenes. Threatening to end to the demise of the viewer, it somehow digs the knife in just a tad deeper before the credits thankfully roll.

Pretty decent film, plays more like a whodunnit thriller than an actual horror movie with scares. There's atmosphere, there's tension buildup, and there are actually some very nicely fleshed out characters for a change. And love or hate the ending, I thought overall the film was pretty good. * * * |
