Not bad. Definitely not what I was expecting. Has the sort of mood that you get from movies like Reeker and Dead End - You know that something's not quite right - And it's not. Not quite "supernatural," this movie is definitely odd. The final "reveal" isn't much a "reveal" since the whole movie is building up to a predictable outcome but, regardless, I enjoyed this one. Better than average, which is more than one can hope for when randomly sampling new horror movies On Demand.

What a blast - I really enjoyed this one. Jonah Hill was his usual funny straight-man self and Russell Brand was surprisingly restrained AND hilarious. Then again, I thought that he was the funniest part of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, so this movie was pretty highly-anticipated for me. Unfortunately, looking at the movie holistically, I think that the parts are definitely greater than the whole. Sometime I found myself laughing out loud (like at the hilarious fake music videos) and sometimes I found myself just "waiting" for the next funny part to come.

Regardless, it's a good buddy comedy. Mindless and fun. The fake songs are my favorite part.

Uwe Bolls "Rampage" 7/10

First "Postal" and now this completely different one.

Is Uwe getting better at Directing or does he just make a shit lot of movies and sometimes gets lucky?

I can't tell. But this one was actually good.

Santa Sangre (1989)

One of the most beautiful, powerful film experiences I've ever had. Was lucky enough to catch a screening at a great local theatre from a 35mm print...truly amazing.

I love El Topo, but this is by far my new favourite from Jodorowsky...I'm at a loss for words, really. Never seen anything like it.

Oh man, I can't even begin to tell you how jealous I am.

The Five Obstructions (2003). This documentary might be the best window into the insane mastery of cinema that is Lars von Trier. In a way, Lars attempts to use the essence of struggle to to find the the humanity beneath a facade, in this case of his mentor Jorgen Leth. The result is a mixture of sing song dialog, boring shots that are worth their weight in gold in establishing reality, and the brilliance that is born of the struggle. In doing so, as the tables are turned, the intent comes to full circle and a half in the way by which the essence of both directors drop their towels and reveal their naked selves. This is a must for fans of film auteur, for those more interested in the essence of cinema as opposed to the its capacity for entertainment. As well, the results of the challenges are cinematic gold and are in themselves worth the investment of the retinae.

Escape From New York: Finally got around to watching the blu-ray release. It's quite a nice transfer, better than I was hoping for. Maybe it's just the increase in detail, but it seemed like in a fair number of scenes the depth of field was very shallow. The main focal point was tack sharp, but then the periphery was out of focus. My main gripe about this release though would have to be the utter lack of extras. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Pretty disappointing. Although I guess with what MGM is going through it's not too surprising, but they could have at least thrown on the extra stuff from the special edition release even if it wasn't HD.

John Carpenter directed this horror-western, adapted from the novel Vampire$ by John Steakley, illuminating the pivotal figure of fearless vampire killer Jack Crow (James Woods), who lost his parents to the creatures. In a remote New Mexico location, Crow and his team, protected with chain-mail fang shields on their throats, blast away at a vampire nest, haul them out with the Jeep's winch, and then celebrate by pulling on other wenches at the Sun God Motel. Their revels are soon brought to an end by king vampire Valek (Thomas Ian Griffith), who became invulnerable after a bungled "inverse exorcism" during the 14th Century. Amid the motel mayhem, Jack escapes, along with his buddy Montoya (Daniel Baldwin) and hooker Katrina (Sheryl Lee). Since Katrina was already bitten by Valek, they use her as a decoy to locate Valek. Cardinal Alba (Maximilian Schell) sends padre Guiteau (Tim Guinee) to join Crow, who is unaware that Montoya has been bitten by Katrina. The hunt begins.

Phantom's Review: I like this movie. It's a good gory R rated horror movie. Plenty of blood soaked action and some cool scary vampires.(remember when vamp's were supposed to be scary?) Highly enjoyable.

He's been pushing for an assignment on the island for personal reasons, but before long he wonders whether he hasn't been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister. Teddy's shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals "escape" in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything - his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.

Phantom's Review: Excellent Hitchcock style psychological thriller from director Martin Scorsese. Great atmosphere and acting and with enough twists and turns to make you car sick. A superior film.

I held of on seeing this for a while, but finaly gave in, it was a bit lame. the scenes that were taken from the original had no where near the impact they did in the 1984 version. The new Kruger didn't cut it for me at first as he didn't look or seem as human, but he got better as the movie went on.

This was a pretty slick remake, a lot of fun, everyone should check this out sometime this month.
