The Promise: I loved it. A lot of people hate it. Why? :(

Because of the wires probably.. |
Tokyo 10 + 1 - Apparently this is supposed to be some kind of Battle Royale spoof .... it's rubbish,I would have expected much more from the director of Uzumaki. The best thing about this movie is the running time which at 70 minutes is mercifully short. 3/10

Guard Post G.P.506 - I was really looking forward to this, however I was a little disappointed. The pace of the film was way too slow, especially in the middle section where the movie almost came to a complete standstill.I can enjoy a slow burning plot but in this case it just made the film feel about half an hour too long.6/10
Pray - A fairly average ghost story,nothing more. 5/10 |
"The Machine Girl"
Hysterically funny, over the top, gore soaked Asian action film. I loved it. |

Masters of Horror: Takasha Miike's Imprint
I give it a solid B. |
Alive (by the guy who made Versus)

Into the Mirror (2003)
Though the final climax was quite predictable but I quite liked the last scene of the film. The story was good and there were some good creepy scenes as well. Now I'm very much looking forward to Aja's version. After seeing the trailer I think he has done some extensive work with the storyline but I believe he did that in a reasonable way. Hope to see another good remake from him. >>: B |
The three extremes
4/10 very disappointing film. 'Cut' was slightly better than the other two. |
Sick Nurses-- Thai film
I give it a b+ |
'Shutter.' I saw the Thai version and the one Masayuki Ochiail directed...I dug them both. In fact, the DVD for the Masayuki version drops this week. I was checking out their website, they've got some cool features--articles on revenge in horror movies, some other 'top ten moments' type of articles--and this fun thing where you can upload photos to their site, add a 'ghost' the photo so it looks like spirit photography, and they end up using the photos in their advertising. I saw my photo on one of the other horror forums, it was kind of cool. Anyhoo.

Ab-Normal Beauty (2004)
>>: D |
Just saw Battle Royale again, some people count that as horror, mainly I guess because of the violence.
Here's that Shutter photo I made--saw it again when checking an Evite!! http://shutterdvd.com/view.php?uid=7...4cd1bc9a6f.jpg |
L Change the World - I was disappointed that there was not more of a supernatural element to this,in fact it's more of a straight up thriller.L is a great character though so it was still fun if a little too long. 7/10

"Battle Royale" 7-8/10

"Machine girl" 7/10

Battlefield Baseball - Bonkers!Daft fun 6/10
1942 - A pretty bland ghost story,forgettable 4/10 |
"Jigoku kozô/the boy from hell" 5-6/10
Only 50 minutes long. Had its few moments. But i will certainly look for "Death train" which is also about 50 minutes long and inspired by a Hideshi Hino comic (Aparently that dude is very weird and twisted), but the story sounds much more interesting than Boy From Hell. |
"Zonbi jieitai/Zombie self-defense force" 6-7/10
It's crazy, it's gory, it's japanese. |

I. Have. FINALLY. Seen. Oldboy.
My GOD was that a phenomenal film. It was beautiful, tragic, epic, violent, horrific... I was honestly impressed. Chan-wook Park is an amazing director (the only other piece of his that I've seen is "Cut" from Three... Extremes) and he crafted a truly tortured and tragic journey that has a nice spice of the absurd. I am now adding Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance to my Netflix queue. The only criticism that I had of this movie was that it could have ended a little earlier than it did, though the final scene is wonderfully macabre, so I have a hard tome truly committing to this criticism.
