Yeh this was one of the better Barker adaptions in awhile. Right up there with my favorite adaptions Nightbreed and Candyman. Miles ahead of the recent Book of Blood too.

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas- 7/10

Again, yes. I'm a sucker for sea monsters and everyone knows it. I also like shitty spoofs of mythology, and Michelle Pfeiffer isn't too bad either. Recommended to people who like the same or who watch everything. Seems like this one slipped under the radar because it came out at the same time the original Pirates of the Caribbean did.

I thought this was a brilliant, if underrated film. Made me sad, and gave food for thought, but also showed that there are people who humble us. I couldn't get it out of my head for days afterwards.

Zodiac (2007). This rather long and tedious movie explores the backside of criminal investigations, which are long and tedious. This is not to say that this Fincher flick is boring. With a chilling and important beginning, this one settles down into an incredible crime drama, apparently staying true to the real-life investigation of the Zodiac Killer. The investigation parallels the development of its characters, which threatens to close in only to be further put off. This is perfect for this film. The acting was superb on all accounts, and I would be remiss to abstain from commenting on Robert Downey Jr.'s incredible performance, but that is almost a given. The direction was dark and moody, using the cold rainy backdrop of San Francisco to effect. The camera work, shot in digital, maybe demonstrated that digital might find its place in the movies. Overall, this was an entertaining crime drama for movie lovers that need not an explosion every 5 minutes to hold their attention. Merci beaucoup.

Recommended to all my friends who love a nice dash of Hitchcock blended with French film noir.

The Human Centipede- No rating.

I dunno how I feel about it. It really wasn't that gross, and there were probably 200 moments where the 'centipeople' could have escaped or at the very least killed the doctor. I suppose escape wouldn't really matter, because i'm not sure if the surgery could even be undone... It wasn't bad, but now that i've seen it i'm not really interested anymore. It was a movie. Enjoy.

The Men Who Stare at Goats

The first hour or so was really hilarious for somebody who grew up in the 60s and 70s, but then it kind of lost its way and just petered out with no real ending... which may have been the point.

London to Brighton (2006). Some of life's choices don't really seem like choices at all, but the consequences follow just the same. That is the underlying theme of this mean little entry from the ugly underworld of Britain. The female leads grace us with some incredible performances, balancing extreme tension with heartfelt sensitivity. The rest of the unknown cast does so as well, all of which are mundane nobodies caught up in a rather ugly situation with its requisite denouement. The story itself is rather simple and predictable, covering difficult content with unflinching maturity. The direction from a newbie was superb. The editing-sublime. But it was the acting, with bouts of heart-wrenching crying that were almost too real to bear, that made this impressive flick a nerve-wracking winner. Ashe.
