Feardotcom. I'd forgotten how cheesy this movie was. Thank goodness I got it used and on sale for like $4.

I know plenty of people who really like this movie but I was REALLY dissappointed with it myself. I thought I was the only one. :D

Toolbox Murders...I thought this was supposed to be good?

Dead Waters (aka Dark Waters)
I liked it, but recommend with extreme reservations. This is ONLY for those of you who enjoy slow, brooding flicks. The surprise is that the acting is actually pretty good.

The directing was maddening, I've never seen such cool lighting and framing combined with an awful sense of space. The images are really cool, but the sense of motion and ones place in this world is non-existant.

It could very well be a stylistic choice - it does create a sence of claustrophobia - but it reeks of a lack of technical skill in the director.

All in all I liked it... 6.8/10

Unless of course the Director was trying to create a sense of claustrophobia than of course it would speak of the high technical skill of the director. I actally liked the feel to it ,thought that it added some eeriness. Just my opinion.

So, the big plan of watching what you guys pick didn't exactly happen. Had a few friends come over, and I decided to go with what they wanted to watch.

Over the Hedge
The last few CGI flicks I watched (The Wild, Madagascar) haven't been that good. In fact, I turned off The Wild halfway through... just couldn't handle the overplayed "father and son" storyline (but I mentioned this before). Over the Hedge was actually quite good, and I can't say I didn't enjoy it. It was a very entertaining movie, and had some hillarious scenes in it. Great voice work too, Avril Lavigne was a bit of a suprise to see listed in the cast, well, alongside all those other well-recognized names; but her part was small, and she didn't do too bad. Wanda Sykes and Steven Carrell = amazing as always. Reccomended for fans of whacky animation.

Heartstopper
Ah, Canadian talent; in a B-grade movie nonetheless. Suprised they killed off Robert Englund so quickly (not actually a spoiler since it has little relavence to the plot). It was cheesy as hell (ripping out hearts, still beating; tattoos that move across flesh; soul-transferring; a whirlwind that sends people back to the underworld?), and had terrible effects (think something ALMOST as bad as drawn-in lightning effects), but it wasn't that bad. A fun little romp. No twists, it's doesn't redefine the genre, it's not something you NEED to see, but if you do decide to pick it up, it's not a complete waste. We certainly had a good time watching it, mainly laughing.

The killer actually gave me a slight chill, simply for his sheer presence. So overpowering, and the thought of being with him alone, what can you do? Nothing, your vistually screwed. His acting was terrible, and his LINES... OH GOD. Some biblical passages, with faux-poetry and terrible ryhming mixed all together.

Over the Hedge: B+
Heatstopper: C-

Feed

There's definately a high uncomfortable disgusting factor here. I'll need to watch it again to know my feelings on it as a movie as a whole. I kept getting interrupted.

i didnt like it either .. seemed very cheap and amateurish to me.

i got my copy signed bt juliet landau (everyone else was getting her to sign Buffy stuff)

I told her she should try to stay alive a little longer next time - she whole heartedly agreed :)

joshaube 11-25-2006 06:28 PM

Mulholland Dr.
When I figure out what I justed watched, I'll tell you how I feel about it. As it stands, I have a loose grip on a THEORY of what happened, and I can definately say it's a fucked up film... but I very much enjoyed it. 2 hours and 30 minutes and I wasn't bored once. Entertainment in the madness, or perhaps the madness is the entertainment.

urgeok 11-25-2006 06:55 PM

Enemy Mine .. hadnt seen this in ages - forgot Wofgang Peterson directed it.

Accepted ... typical kid comedy - some funny stuff thanks to a collection of goofy secondary characters and then it falls flat on its face trying to bring about a resolution in the end ... they're all like that ..

The Flayed One 11-25-2006 08:01 PM

Eating Raoul

An extremely fun black comedy. Give it a go if you have the chance.

urgeok 11-25-2006 08:59 PM

Beerfest ... dumb as shit and twice as funny .. worth a look if you just want an easy laugh

Phalanx 11-25-2006 10:39 PM

So then, Broken Lizard has kind of made up for the severely UNfunny "Club Dread"?

A beautiful movie:)

Spallalala 11-26-2006 02:31 AM

Final Desitination 3 with the choose their fate shit on.

I still liked this movie. The fact that I could choose there fate was just shit. It didn't make a difference. No big changes. Stupid I say. Cool lil extras on the second disk tho with the short film.

the_real_linda 11-26-2006 03:43 AM

yeah they should of just had the fates bit as alternative scenes or cut scenes or whatever....dumb idead but the girls in the tanning booth was good how she got hit over the head. and fearless is amazing...i went to the cinema to see ultraviolet and only me and my friend had bought tix so we were given a tix to another show and popcorn we chose fearless cause im a huge jet li fan....amazing....

The Red Shoes. I already wrote about this in the Japanese horror thread.

Fire in the Sky. This movie still creeps me out. The aliens look like evil, deformed old men, not cute little ETs. And when the rubber-like sheet gets sucked over D.B. Sweeney and that thing comes down from the ceiling, I just about lose it. And I always want to smack James Garner's smug smirk into next week; he certainly played that part well.

Last seen was Zombiez, man I wish I had gone to K-mart for all my supplies and then convinced someone to produce my crapfest of a movie.

Great. Another good member leaves because of the general state of this forum.

Click last night...some good humor...more an emotional drama in parts though.

Ebola Syndrome

Haha, awesome! Disgusting, funny, plenty of blood. Never takes itself too seriously. If you like gross out movies, this is a good one to try that's NOT a zombie movie.

just watche d a DVD that seems to be part of a series called Classic Records.

this one was all about the making of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
very interesting .. i wish it could have been in a little more depth and detail but i enjoyed it none the less.

Did they talk about the part where the midget hung himself in the background?

the_real_linda 11-26-2006 01:03 PM

i thought that hanging himself midget thing was meant to be in the wizard of oz? well until it got a clean up and was projected onto big screens and its a bird flapping its wings....

"The wailer"

Good (looking) lead actress and a pretty scary looking ghost. Those were the plusses.

The rest is pretty much shit.

This movie contains, except for the lead actress, maybe the most annoying characters/actors i´ve ever seen. 10 minutes into the movie i wished them all dead. Did i get my wish fulfilled? I´m not telling. ;)

The story and storyline is something you´ve seen a thousand times before and with a 90 minutes running time the first 50 minutes "build-up" (Absolutely nothing happens) seems waaaay too long...

And considering the ghost lady is one of the scariest looking ghosts i´ve seen in an american horror movie this decade, it has disappointingly little screen time. I´m talking about 4-6 show-ups that lasts 4-6 seconds.
