Lord of Illusions

Oh man... Is it just me or is every Clive Barker film some pseudo-psycho gay bondage fantasy? The gore was decent, but I thought this movie fell pretty flat. Acting, directing and plot were all fine, but I can't shake the feeling that I just got done watching one of Clive Barker's wet dreams play out on the screen. I was not impressed.

never cared for it myself ... flat is a good way to describe it.

The film is frustrating in that, the first really big action set piece is sooooooo good - I'm talking white-knuckle good - that the rest of the film feels like it's playing catch-up. ]

Daniel Craig is great.

The dialogue sounds good coming out of Craig's mouth, but everyone else falls flat, so I'm gonna blame the writing.

The Poker scenes are miserably boring...like I'm watching "Poker with the Stars"

...AND this is the bloodiest Bond yet.

I'm a sucker for these so I'm gonna say 7.5/10 as a whole... which by my scale falls between a good time and a great time at the movies:)

I just went to see this last night. I agree about Daniel Craig, he was pretty awesome. And yeah, everything else you pretty much summed up too. The action was cool and the movie had enough going on to keep me interested, but I have to admit after 2 hours I was praying for an ending....it was the large Coke I drank talking. :o But overall I thought it was a kick ass movie.

Vodstok 11-20-2006 07:21 AM

Taxi Driver. It was on AMC, so i watched it.

Had never seen it before, but I really liked it. Dark, gritty, satisfyingly violent, and with a surprisingly happy ending. I thought it was going to end with just Travis on the couch.

Stage Fright

really, really, really bad. Like the writer and director have never seen a play, let alone know what happens backstage. Bad acting, terrible characters, boooooring!

Funny, thats what I was planning to check out tonight.

Hopefully I enjoy it more...

Just watched Quest for Fire for the first time. I really liked it a lot. It was weird, and there was no dialogue to speak of, but the point came across clear all the same. There were a few parts that made me giggle, like the wooly mammoth scenes. Seeing carpet-covered elephants is a pretty entertaining thing in itself. Overall though, I thought it was done very well, and the end scene had a strong impact. Good movie.

Slither.... what can i say, i just love this movie :D

"Pan´s Labyrinth"

More fantasy than horror, but even darker than "Devils Backbone".

Capitán Vidal is one of the cruelest movie characters i´ve ever seen.

Definitely worth a watch.

Black Circle Boys

Good movie even though it is supposed to be about a real crime committed by
Ricky Craver. They changed the WHOLE story around except the fact that there was a murder committed and the people involved were metal heads. Still a good work of fiction.

Finally got my Grim Prairie Tales.....it was good, but not what I expected at all. The one story about the guy finding the pregnant lady REALLY creeped me out though.... Worth a watch, if you can find it.

Is this the one with McComas? Has Dylan McDermot -is one of my all time short story favs.
One of them has James Earl Jones, One has Bruce Dern... is it the same movie..different stories?...haven't seen it in a long time, but I liked it alot.

Miss Olivia 11-21-2006 02:39 PM

Yeah, James Earl Jones plays the scary storyteller, and there are four short stories in the movie.....I think it's funny that every time I see James Earl in a wig, it has bangs.

Geddy 11-21-2006 02:59 PM

Gacy. I did'nt like it and it only work in my parents vcr so I traded it for the blair with project.

Stagefright

Not bad. Not great or anything, but I didnt think it was as horrible as Rod made it sound. Stupid ending and really poor dialogue/acting, but the idea was good and it was carried out pretty well.

The Michele Soavi flick?

Last watched: Deadly Blessing.... pretty terrible. Lame throwback to the equally shit 70s supernatural flicks that came out after the Exorcist/Omen.

Anchorman

Its OK, but just ok. There's a couple wtf is happening moments and a FEW laugh out loud moments. Overrall its pretty funny but equally stupid, in a semi bad way.

6/10

Totally agree, but the Jazz Flute makes me giggle and the Starland Vocal Band moment was inspired

Plaga Zombie: Mutant Zone

Well, I had this lined up on the top of my Netflix list before I even realized it was a sequel and unfortunately for me, Netflix does not carry the original so I might be out of luck. I'm sure if I had seen the orginal, things would have made a little more sense to me since this one sorta picks up right in the middle of a story, but more or less, I was able to piece together what was going on. Okay, now on with the review of the movie itself. For it's budget, it was fabulous. Plenty of gore and it didn't really look too cheesy either. Good humor, good acting (I think. It's always hard to tell with foreign language films.), mildly confusing plot (Probably because I never saw the original), and excellent characters.

Let me be perfectly clear. By no means is this film any kind of work of art and compared to most of the horror put out by studios, it's probably relatively lame, but when you factor in what is obviously a very minimal budget, it shines a whole new light on this film and allows you to appreciate it for it what it really is... A low budget, gory zombie movie. I enjoyed it.

"John West. John West. ...He is the best! John West. John West. ...He is the champ!"

The Bat

This was a great film. I firmly believe that if they had given it a better title it would be one of Vincent Price's most popular movies, but it's simply called The Bat so it probably gets overlooked quite a bit. Anyways, I liked it. Dark, twisty plot and good acting.

B

Last Woman on Earth

I also enjoyed this film quite a bit. It's rather slow moving, but the reason is because it's building the characters. Good acting & directing. I like how they never really explain what happened that killed off everyone on Earth too. Great anti-Hollywood ending.

B+

Goofy, dumb, repetative, but somehow a little endearing

I actually bought that one. It was silly and dumb all the way through but had some decent action and of course the last few minutes which is what convinced me to throw down the $8.00 for the uncensored version.

Yep, agreed. Plus the Rock is a likable character.

how so ?

i liked the annoying guy who 'went to the bathroom'

i liked the couple minutes of 1st person shooter ..

but not enough to make it endearing .. just seemed flat and lifeless to me.

the Rock - who is usually very entertaining - was completely wasted...
