I agree with you. I've always thought that the less you know about the monster, the scarier it is. I think it was real, but this movie wasn't trying to tell a story about a demon; it was trying to tell a story about a mother and her child.

The dead father was why the mother was sort of depressed in the first place.

Well, yes, but I do think he was a portal or pawn as Michael said. But I supposed that could be construed as a metaphor also. I'm of the mind that the Babadook was real.. ::cool::
