it's the Korean army/ghost flick right ? (tartan asia extreme)

it is

it had the potential to be really good....but as I've said..the dialogue makes them all sound like buffoons. IMO

it wasn't the dubbing because I watched the sub-titled version

Great idea mixing genres, and I don't know if its a cultural difference or what but the dialogue in this movie almost ruined it for me. This is one I would like to see remade hollywood style.

I loved the story, atmosphere, and setting in that one so much that the dialogue didn't really bother me.

I agree with you,the main gripe with me was the amount of times the soldiers screamed "Asshole" at each other. If you played a drinking game where everyone had to down a shot everytime someone said "Asshole" during R-Point no one would survive past about 45 minutes, and if anybody did survive that far they would most likely be blind anyway and have a problem reading the subtitles! It's still enjoyable though:)

Tartan Asia Extreme .. watch for this label when looking for asian horror ..

Watched Natural City yesterday,I did enjoy it up to a certain point although the characters seemed a little underdeveloped to me,I guess I wanted more backstory.Still good though 7/10

Also watched Tom yum goong,Loved Ong Bak and I found this just as entertaining.8/10

Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky - OTT gore + Bad dubbing = Great fun! 7/10

R-Point.

i have to admit - i totally get where Newb is coming from on this one.
some things don't translate well cross culturally.

i liked the film overall - how it was shot - most of the acting - the idea behind it ..

but the actual ghost possession thing was kind of goofy.

(no goofier than The Evil Dead i suppose - but that was played for laughs)

i got the feeling that you were expected to take R-Point more seriously

Fun, but don't expect a masterpiece, it's more like a Thai popcorn/B-movie.

Nightmare Detective – Japanese horror movie about a guy who can enter people’s nightmares to help them. Had some interesting moments, but ultimately it put me to sleep. No nightmares there.

Horrible movie despite Tony Jaa's appearance..

One Missed Call ~ I didn't love it, but I did like it quite a bit. A solid ghost story, with a few creepy moments. Not sure how I felt about the ending.

I really need to check it out. Miike is one of my absolute favorite directors.

...

Last night I watched Saam Gaang, Three Extremes II and I thought it was pretty good...

"Memories," Ji-woon Kim - It's interesting to see what came before Tale of Two Sisters, though I thought that "Memories" was the weaker of the three and was just a derivation of the ghost story. The direction was solid and the atmosphere was successful. It was definitely a good way to begin the film. B

"Wheel," Nonzee Nimibutr - I haven't watched a lot of Thai cinema, but I thought that this film had a traditional feel to it and it kept me interested and captivated the entire time. B/B+

"Gong Home," Peter Chan - Definitely my favorite of the three short films, I thought that atmospherically it was brilliant and the concept was fantastic. The ending was great and I honestly did not foresee the twist, which is pretty impressive to me. There was an element to the story that was a bit of a non-sequitor and I thought was unnecessary, but I forgave it. B+/A-

Somebody told me there was another "Three Extremes" and that the set we got as Three Extremes II was the first one while 3 Extremes was the second? Does anybody know more about this? I'm sure I'll look it up later but I'm tired.

Yah... Three Extremes II actually came out before Three Extremes, but because of the success of Three Extremes it was renamed and rereleased as Three Extremes II. There's no other relation between the two... Just three more horror short films.
