Yeah I like the diverse influences in it. A few tunes are a bit fucking cringe worthy but overall I dig it especially the slower subdued jams.

Yeah, the slower ones seem to be the ones I've heard.

Yeah those tunes have a lot of soul. I haven't liked a pop artist in years but this just grabs me. It's been getting the full on hype treatment over here this week for the album release.

Yeah, definitely. I'm with you; that album will probably be huge.

I always loved this tune. Round Robin's version is the original, as far as I know, and it's so great:

I didn't go to the local record fair today, it's not the best in Melbourne, but still regret it now.

U did pick up Peter Gabriels first solo album on vinyl at a second hand store today though, also some worthy recent additions are , Noah Taylor and the sloppy boys - Live free or die , a shitload of Neil hamburger albums for 2 bucks a piece.

some Spencer P Jones solo albums and a bunch of local stuff you guys won't care about.

Melbourne has some great stores. That guide you can get listing them all is really handy. I thought Heartland Records ruled. Does that fair happen quite regularly?

wizard of gore 03-05-2012 11:30 PM

i went there a couple months ago went to all the good record stores right across the city and half of them had shut down or turn to shit, was gutted..record fairs there would be awsome though, didnt even cross my mind:rolleyes:

Yeah, they started back in the mid 80s and I think they broke up in the late 90s. They have a really great raw rockabilly sound in their early records, and kind of expanded as they went on. They put out a lot of awesome records, though. You should definitely check them out. Here's a great live version they did of Gene Vincent's tune "Baby Blue":

I love the lack of bass in most of their songs. It gives them a really raw, primal sound, I think.

yeah i guess it does like rockabilly black keys or something
,stand up bass and stand up drums dont give much bass though.just a tap tap tap and a slap slap slap

Haha, yeah that's true. The bass is usually a little extra rhythm more than anything else. But it's still such a common sound in rockabilly that it's nice to hear something else, too.

Love that Melvins record. "The Smiling Cobra" is one of my favorite tunes of theirs.
Huge fan of the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers, too. They had some great songs together.
Have you ever heard Gene Autry's early material? He was pretty much a Jimmie Rodgers copycat, but it's great stuff:
