Bathory (2008) & The Countess (2009)

Both the film is about the life & controversy about Elizabeth Bathory, who was a countess from the renowned Bathory family. She is considered the most famous serial killer in Slovak and Hungarian history as well as the world's most prolific mass murderer (according to Guinness World Records) and remembered as the "Blood Countess" and as the "Bloody Lady of Cachtice".
2008 Slovakian film based on a view opposed by others that Elizabeth Bathory was a victim of a conspiracy where the proceedings were largely politically motivated. However, the conspiracy theory is consistent with Hungarian history at that time.

Both the film watchable for good costume & set designs. Other than that some weak dialogs & unnecessary comic additions somewhat damaged the overall tone for both the story.

The Night Visitor (1971)

A surprising & delightful watch! The small cast includes Max Von Sydow and Liv Ulmann, BUT it's not a Bergman film...it's a chilling psycho-thriller from Laslo Benedek. Having a Bergmanesque feelings of despair and anguish, it also added Hitchcockian suspense from start to finish with a good twist ending like the old Twilight Zone or Ray Bradbury mystery stories.

Sexy Beast (2000). Let me just say the obvious: Ben Kingsley. That performance was bar none one of the most powerful ever. That he should be feared by everyone and every thing just oozes out of character. The violence which emanated out of his body at times was superb. And while he steals the show, the rest of our characters are no slouches. Ray Winstone portrayed the counterpoint to Kingsley perfectly, doing his part to keep his demons in check, literally. That "gal" used to run with these psychopaths hints to the viewer that he might not have always been such a pussy cat. Ian McShane should also get some love here, for his subdued portrayal is of a sociopath yet to be provoked, but the growling bear that might emerge could threaten to make even Kingsley's character cower. Oh yeah, the story itself was strong, the direction more than competent. Even the symbolism was sublime. Mercie beaucoup.

Mysterious Skin (2004)

One of those films that blow you away, but make you never want to see them again. Brutal, scary, and real. Joseph Gordan Levitt is a brilliant actor, and his role in this film is fantastic.

Manic (2001)

Another great performance by Gordon Levitt. This film hit me pretty hard, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect going into it, and I hardly heard anything at all about it. I thought the direction was brilliant, the way it was shot really puts you into the film, and gets you involved.
