Duplicity (2009)

Nothing special, but I liked it as far as big-budget Hollywood caper flicks are concerned. Tony Gilroy directs from his nicely complex script, and keeps the action flying from start to finish. The cast is pretty solid too - Clive Owen playing his trademark spy and Julia Roberts in a surprisingly bearable role headline the show, and they're backed up by the always great Paul Giamatti and Tom Wilkinson as rival CEO's.

If you're bored and want something flashy with a bit of a brain behind it, this wouldn't be your worst option...

Star Trek (2009)

Finally got around to seeing this, and I'm so glad that I did - enjoyed every second of it.

I've always been a casual Trek fan - just started getting into the original series last year though - and this update more than lived up to my expectations. A sci-fi epic of the highest caliber.

Who do you think fit their roles best?
Kirk came into the ...Kirk-ish? Bit towards the end I thought.
Though for me, Karl Urban as Bones/McCoy was just the best...he had it down from the start IMO.

Agreed I thought he was awesome in that role. The only one that didn't work for me was Scotty.

They coulda had that Gervais guy do an alright Scotty I thought...

I'm a bit pissed at the whole Simon Pegg thing actually, like I keep holding onto the hope of him being in something as good (not that ST wasn't) or in a role as funny as Shaun or Spaced...and he just keeps being in...shit, or in this case a completely unsuited "lets put him in because people seem to like him now" roles...run fatboy run? that burglar one with david schwimmer? a bunch of zombie related cameos, and didn't see how to lose friends/alienate people but looked about the same league as the other two...
Not saying he should be stuck on horror/comedy forever or anything, but I'd sure like to see him in something I'd actually consider worth watching him in.

Not really my kind of humor.

I'm sure some of you will absolutely love it tho.

Yeh I could see that working. He's a bit more subtle and versatile as an actor IMO.

Took me awhile to really "see" Kirk in this new guy, but agreed - there were a few moments near the end where he absolutely nailed it. And yeah, Bones was dead on, just wish he would have had more screen time.

Maybe it's just because I've never been a die-hard Trekkie, but I didn't have any problem with Pegg...he entertained the Hell out of me. Sure, he took some liberties with the character, and he may have been a bit over-the-top, but I found he fit the tone of the film and gave a great fun performance. I can see why it might bug some people, but I thought he was great.
