Terrible.

Bah, I play on PS3 servers all the time at my brother's, totally worth $50 a year for Live. Never trust a fanboy (or somebody who works for the company they tout ;) ).

Phalanx 03-06-2008 06:04 AM

It's not like I'm against x360...didn't much like the first xbox though...
It's a good system, my point is that you're getting charged when you needn't - nothing fanboy about it, it's common sense.

Well you're paying for premium servers though. If I put my brothers PS3 against my 360 on CoD4 and look for matches on both I consistently get a faster connected game with less lag. Could just be me but I really feel Live is worth paying for. THAT SAID, I was just giving you crap. :)

AND

This Windows Games BS with paying for live to play online with pc games is ridiculous. MS is fucking nuts if they think that will really fly.

The Mothman 03-06-2008 07:08 AM

...Hm...see, those are actually activision servers, not really in any way representative of either systems servers, they're a third party and host all their own shit, as far as I know...IMHO, cod4 ALWAYS has servers that aren't the best...that said, I personally get no lag whatsoever on the PSN, if there's configuration/connection/wireless issues you might as many do, but when you've got it all done right, it's generally all good.

...Just waiting for the may-onwards rush of games for the ps3 right now...so they can finally have enough games, my major problem with ps3 right now.

So, I got a W.O.W geek friend at work, who offered me a free trial he got?
I REALLY don't know if I should even check this thing out...

Freak 03-06-2008 01:08 PM

Rented Turning Point:Fall of Liberty and Bully Scholarship Edition today.Gonna give check them out when I get off work.

I had fun with WoW for a while, but once you get higher up in levels to really do the "higher level" stuff it seemed too much like work and wanted more time than I had to offer.

Freak 03-06-2008 10:55 PM

Played Turning Point and it was god awful.Graphics where shabby and there was horrible lag non stop and the aiming system was slow and jumpy.Do not play this game unless your into torture.

Been playing bully Scholarsship Ed. for the past two days and while it nothing amazing it is fun to play.Beating up preps and greasers while playing bodyguard to nerds as well as making out with a few of the ladies. There is plenty of side missions to complete as well as main missions. The thing I hate the most is having to attend class, now you dont really have to attend but if you dont it'll make it that much harder to get around casue the prefects will be looking for you. This does get a little boring after awhile but not a bad game to play by any means.

It's hard to get really into stuff after Halo. I thought Unreal II would be decent, but even though it's similar, it's not the same.

Get a 360 and get Halo 3 and Gears Of War. :D

Phalanx 03-14-2008 02:27 AM

I think unreal 2 (the awakening, yes?) was waaay better than the first Halo, considering they more or less came out around the same time.
It STARTS pretty slow IMHO, but I think it kicks off and turns into a great game, among my favourite "vs aliens FPS" type games.
Storyline not much better on one game than the other, but the vehicles and weapons (again, just my opinion), the aliens, and the variety of different indoor and exotic outdoor scenes, planets, and varied mission types were all better...

That said, I havent played the halo sequels, so I don't know how to rate them, but I have to say that while it was a fairly solid game, I found halo to be just a tad over-rated and lacking atmosphere - something the awakening had in spades.

However, if you're into games LIKE this...even if you're not any kind of trek fan, and it IS stepping back a little, a game called "ST: Elite Force 2" was all kinds of excellent.

Dunno what to play really...still on shadow of the collossus ATM.

urgeok2 03-14-2008 03:50 AM

what i really liked about Halo - is that it felt more like a movie ..
i liked the look of it, the smooth lines, the music, and the many checkpoints.

i don't look to challenge myself with a game that much - i always play on easy level - i j7ust like to walk through and feel the story.

unreal 2 doesnt look anywhere near as good as halo as far as the smoothness of the visuals go - it looked kind of rough in comparrison .. not as well lit. it reminded me of the older games like Hexen.

the play isnt bad - i didnt dislike it - i just didnt get the same feeling of involvement as i did with Halo.

but my personality comes into play here a lot too - once i find something that clicks with me - most other things pale in comparrison .. It's not like i wont try new things - i just end up getting disappointed.

(like TV for example .. once i saw Dexter - it made everything else look like crap to me ... i cant even watch Heros now ... i dont enjoy it now because the bar has been raised.

not nessessarily a good thing - but it's just the way it works for me ..

wufongtan. 03-14-2008 04:05 AM

Americas army (it's good cause its free)
Battlefield vietnam. oldie but a goodie.

Dante'sInferno 03-14-2008 05:11 AM

David Bowie - Fame 90'

I like Fame more.

Despare 03-14-2008 06:24 AM

Halo 3, I'm finding that with most games now I stray from the multiplayer and stick to single player experiences. The stories that are controlled or manipulated in some way by the user are what got me into gaming and it seems to be what I'm going back to.

urgeok2 03-14-2008 06:40 AM

i dont have a 360 - nor am i likely to get one - so sadly i'll never get to play Halo 3

we have a playstation
gamecube
wii (yes - the gamecube is now redundant)
X-box
sega genesis
nintendo
some oldschool atari pong thing
psp
gameboy
gameboy colour
gameboy advance
gameboy ds
a sega 'portable' (thats fairly big)

i cannot justify getting a 360 .. or a playstation 3 for that matter.

I'd grab a playstation 2 if i saw a cheap used one

Despare 03-14-2008 06:46 AM

I'll get a Wii soon and probably a PS3 later on. I like hooking up the old systems once in a while, it's a lot of fun. Every now and then I'll hook up the coleco or the snes, even the saturn.

thats a nice lineup.
my friend had one of the Sega portables. they're huge, and run out of batteries in about 15 minutes, nice collectors item though.

i got something from each generation, sort of. starting from earliest to latest, i have an
Atari 2600
Sega Genesis
Playstation
Gamecube
Xbox 360.

and a PSP if you count that.
oh yeah, and a pretty nice PC

as for games ive been playing lately, im kind of burnt out on Oblivion, i got the best sword, awesome armor, and the best shield, and im really not challenged anymore. went back to Resident Evil 4 and Rainbow Six Vegas.

I have almost as many systems as you:

Nintendo Entertainment System
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Gamecube
Gameboy Color
Sega Genesis
Dreamcast
Playstation
Playstation 2
XBOX
XBOX 360
And a pretty sweet PC.

I don't think I'll get a PS3 or Wii anytime soon. I'm too lazy for a Wii, and the Playstation 3 is going to have to come out with a few more good games, before I shell out the cash for it. AND be games that I can't get on the 360.

Despare 03-14-2008 02:51 PM

I think I have a...

Coleco
Super Nintendo
Gamecube
N64
Sega Saturn
Sega Genesis
Sega CD
Dreamcast
Gamecube
XBox
Xbox 360
PSOne (with and without screen)
PS2
and I think that's it... I may have a 32x somewhere though.

Portables are now only a Gameboy Advance, DS, and Neo Geo Pocket Color.

urgeok2 03-15-2008 03:45 AM

It wouldn't be as bad if I didn't have a bunch of lightguns, bongos, a drum for taiko drum master, and countless other peripheral.

urgeok2 03-15-2008 03:56 AM

the bad thing about my stuff .. is i dont even play the damn things.

re Halo 3 - someone told me that they were going to release an x-box that was a bare bones 'arcade' version meaning all it would do is play x-box games - no bells and whistles ... and it would come in around $150

anyone heard anything to this ?

Despare 03-15-2008 04:42 AM

The 360 "Arcade" version simply replaced the core.

"Microsoft officially announced a new version the Xbox 360 called the Xbox 360 Arcade. It's like the Core, except now it comes bundled with five arcade style games (Pac-Man, Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, and Uno), a wireless controller, has an HDMI port, and a includes a 256MB memory card for $280. (But like the Core, there's still no hard drive.)

Go through electronics boutique (EB games), they have plenty cheap "remanufactured" units, Sony has worked on them, and the one year instore warranty on those comes directly from Sony too.

I'm still on the same...got a pc that might play stuff from about a year ago just fine, a Dreamcast (still my favourite console ever), PSP, PS2, PS3.

Quote:

A good selling point aside from the games factor, in terms of the PS3 anyhows, is that it's pretty much the cheapest BluRay player you can buy, from a company that has top of the range laser devices...although I'm sure with the death of HD, the 360 will shortly be selling external br player peripherals too...too bad you're not local, I could get you one for a bit under 2/3 the standard price.

Despare 03-16-2008 04:18 AM

Yeah Phalanx, MS has been in negotiations to sell a blu-ray adapter (although I won't use it or any blu-ray player for a loooooong time). When you think about it though, the cost will likely be at least $200 + right? Not only that but it's an adapter while the PS3's is built into one slick little console. While you can debate which system is better just for games, if somebody's looking for a system to play blu-ray + games I don't think they'll have a better option than the PS3.

urgeok2 03-16-2008 04:46 AM

i have no desire to play blu-ray or HD for that matter...

i wont move in that direction until i'm forced to.

i was thinking about a used PS2 because i see the games used for dirt cheap everywhere (as i do the used x-box games) the gamecube games - even used - are always a little more expensive.

i'm interested in the 360 solely for halo 3 .. although i'm sure if we ended up getting one - my kid would find a million other games for it he would like.

I still buy and play PS2 games. Last one I got was for Christmas, it was Shadow of the Colossus, and it is and amazing game.

That's the game I'm currently playing...where are you up to? I think I'm up to #6.
Interesting title, borrowed from a friend - it's really like nothing I've played before, as close as I can come to describing it, is, it's a game full of zelda boss-esque fights against giant foes...? Great looking game, had an engine made specifically for it...
Also something to do with ICO, another game on my "to play" list.
Always into games that are unique...like fahrenheit (indigo prophecy) which I loved for its originality despite a few flaws.

Quote:

There hasn't been a better time to buy a ps2, I don't think...there's an absolutely MASSIVE library of games (and games to come for the next year and a half - two years) most of which you're garaunteed not to have played before. Between the dirt cheap seconds/trade-ins, and the quickly falling in price new titles, the cheapness of the machine itself...etc, it's a pretty good buy right now IMHO.

urgeok2 03-17-2008 04:36 AM

i never want to see lego star wars again .. holy crap i'm so sick of it.
