Jeepers Creepers 2 -
Not as good as the classic original. But far better than the garbage 3rd part. |

Bigfoot found footage. It was ok. |

Vengeance was a good bit of fan fiction, with all the tidbits of this subgenre. Great kills, just the bit of gore I was looking for. Of course, there are a few nods to the series, particularly to part 2 at one point. But what's the point of "bringing back" the caretaker if you're not going to do a farthead joke?
Also good to bring Elias, though the final confrontation was a bit hokey. But it was fun seeing folks from the original series coming back. A fun watch. |
Open 24 Hours
It was okay. Not anything to write home to mother about. It was on Amazon Prime so no cost, we live in the sticks, and there's less to do for fun because of covid, so may as well. Slow start, and a number of cliches, but it was a decent enough watch.
SPOILER AHEAD, PLEASE STOP HERE IF YOU INTEND TO WATCH: I did like that the boyfriend was not a hallucination. That plot device, where the main character is just imagining the whole thing, is used way too often. |
The Dark and the Wicked (2020)
On Shudder. Thoroughly enjoyed. Some gore, but, not an over-abundance of it. Which is fine for me. Tense atmosphere. I give it 8/10 |

alright my comment has some *spoilers* so dont read if you havn't seen it
yah bogwitch very suspenseful, to me the movie really was about something other than the actual literal plot, a deeper meaning, letting his friend die while he was hiding, he kept envisioning it while in the woods, (the monster would create these hallucinations, the monster really being his tortured mind playing tricks on him) at the end he screams at the beast (the beast is his inner demon) his fear, and pain in that sense letting go of the past, and his guilt by venting it out with confidence... |
The Silence (2019)
lil bat bastards, i liked it, and i liked the monsters, but damn some of these scenes dragged on way too long, which killed some of the suspense for me.... |

So where was the line on what things were hallucinations? Was the whole trip and his friends hallucinations? The people in the monster village were real or not? If the trip and his friends were real, how could the hallucination-monster kill his friends? |
Underwater (2020)
4/10 Hard to get through... two sittings and skipped ahead. The sets are quality, but most of the film a small group of people squeeze through confined dark spaces. The blasé characters are neither likeable or detestable. It took way too long to get to the insignificant ho-hum conclusion. |
SHORTCUT 2020

Well, you know, the whole movie they were going from one place to other. And I thought the trip was so, so, so common. I've seen that journey a million times. They're mostly going through corridors and some tight squeezes; one drop and one outside walk. Nothing wrong with that, if the characters and story was cookin', but it wasn't for me. I'm glad you liked though. ... Decided to peak at RottenTomatoes... 49% critic 60% audience. The critique RT features is: "Underwater's strong cast and stylish direction aren't enough to distract from the strong sense of déjà vu provoked by this claustrophobic thriller's derivative story." Funny he/she writes "distract from the strong sense of déjà vu"... lol... yeah, I had, what you might call déjà vu, but not the good kind. just for fun, here's some of the RT critiques: The Abyss meets Aliens with a bit of The Poseidon Adventure, a lot of Pacific Rim and a dash of The Meg in this subaquatic sci-fi that offers nothing more than the sum of its references. The 100 Candles Game 7/10
An alright horror anthology. |
DOLORES CLAIBORNE (1995). Although it's a little too long, this is an excellent film based on Stephen King's good albeit difficult to read book (The whole book is a hardscrabble Maine woman's recollections). Kathy Bates is stupendous here with great support by Christopher Plummer and Judy Parfitt. ****1/2

Capture Kill Release was a fun ride. Belancing between horror, found footage and dark comedy. Thus a bit in the style of things like Sightseers and few other titles I'm trying to remember (Heathers, maybe? I don't know.)
I also liked how they developed the characters. How Jen got more and more out of control (if she was not already) and Farhang trying to step on the brakes, either failing to realise that it's to no avail or refusing to do so. I would not put the acting on the level to make it a genuine four star film, but I did like it. A fun saturday flick. |

Palm Springs (2020) (Hulu original exclusive)
9/10 A comedy, romance, mystery film, starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti. Well-written and entertaining take on an interesting theme. I'm glad I knew nothing about the film before seeing it, so I had no idea what was going to happen next -- one of the things I want most in a film. I highly recommend you don't see/read anything about it before watching it. And notice I'm not saying anything regarding what it's about. |
Scare Me 5/10
Show, don’t tell. This movies theme is the exact opposite. I have a feeling Aya Cash will be typecast as annoying for the rest of her acting career. |

CURSE OF THE ALPS 2010
subtitled A young woman shows up in a small village unable to speak or explain where she's been or who she is. The people in the village begin to believe there is something evil about her and that she may be responsible for many unsolved murders. I liked it. |

THE FRIGHTENERS (1996).>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > Last Peter Jackson film before LOTR trilogy is a very good film that could have been great if the CGI had been toned down and the story tightened. Micheal J Fox (very good here) has ESP ability after wife dies in car accident. He has Ghosts haunt a House and leave his card so people will call to have him "Cleanse" the house; He is basically a Film-Flam man , a Bogus Ghostbuster. However, He starts seeing numbers in people's foreheads with them dying shortly thereafter and He may have to use his ability for more serious use. Know it sounds like I'm cutting on the film, but it is really great with strong support from Trini Alvarado, Jeffrey Combs (RE-ANIMATOR; He is almost Norman Bates-ish , so twitchy, although his character is developed too much), R Lee Ermey (hilarious) and a wonderful Dee Wallace. My wife and I met her a few times at conventions in Pre-Covid days and She was impressed We bought a FRIGHTENERS photo instead ET, THE HOWLING or CUJO. **** |

Basically, I didn't think it was funny... so that pretty much sinks it for me, cause it was trying to funny the entire film. Found the humor very old, cartoony, stale, and contrived. The racing around town in the wacky CG way, I also found annoying. I think I only got through the whole movie because of Trini Alvarado's beauty. ::roll eyes:: |
