Thus, A Nightmare on Elm Street is the winner for the Slasher section!

This would have been a real difficult one because these are all really good movies. I would probably have gone with A Nightmare on Elm Street because not only did it create a major movie icon and was directed by Wes Craven (my favorite horror movie director), but it was just a very unique horror film. It used the slasher formula, while taking it in a completely different direction. Also, unlike many of the other slashers (including and especially Friday the 13th, which is a series that I really enjoy too), it did not focus on body count, but on developing the characters and telling an interesting, unique story.

Agree on both counts!

It's a tough pick between Aliens and The Thing.

If it was the first Alien movie vs The Thing I might have to go the Alien route but I will have to go with The Thing in this matchup.
