Not only a younger audience but, primarily a female audience. I find it easier to connect with female characters that have to hide secrets as a homosexual. That being said I'm not saying all do, not trying to stereotype. There's also a lot that I think mothers relate to a lot in this In both good and bad ways. Pretty much all lead males are either evil or a side dish so it's hard for most men to find a Character to connect with.

I heard they're planning on making a Season 4 already, but I'm not for sure yet. At first I only thought they would only make three seasons but I read in a article that there might even be a Season 4: once I find the article I'll be sure to reply back and post it up.

If you've gone this far into a thread on a show you haven't seen you deserve to read these spoilers.
I love Delphine and I don't know why. I just find large, older women adorable. Especially as she doesn't have much idea what's happening around her. I like to think that over a century in a box underground gave her a lot of time to think on her sins, I'd say she's changed. She's had a pretty good punishment. When she was wearing that jumper and getting all excited about a haircut I just wanted to scream at her to run and save herself. I have problems. As for Fiona, I'm not loving her. I just find her a little dull - interesting, particularly earlier on, but her recent changes of heart are pretty meh and a bit too reminiscent of Sister Jude, who I adored. Come to think of it, there's another example of an cruel character who I always felt sympathy for - even before we were meant to. |

I really enjoyed this week's episode. It seemed like all the different plot threads are coming together, and Jessica Lange was AMAZING.
Also, I've been waiting for this song to show up and it finally did: |

As for this week's episode... SPOILERS I honestly don't get why they don't go after Fiona through the Council when their elaborate ruse didn't work - I mean, they have a case to set her on fire, so why don't they go through that route? |
OMG!! This season is getting better with each episode, and now we have to wait till Jan. 8th!
So many interesting developments this episode, and I loved Queeni's big moment! |

SOME SPOILERS BELOW
I'm loving this season more and more every episode. This new ep. was a work of art right from the opening scene. The framing of the scene, a dialogue between two people, and one of them shown only in a small mirror behind the other, was masterful. And the performances of Lange and Basset, so subtle and powerful, telling us through their eyes only, that they are both lying to each other. I have marveled at the show's ability to find personal favorite actresses of mine and giving them meaty roles to play; Mare Winningham, Patty Lupone, and now pulling a classic rock icon out of left field and in a bit of truly inspired metacasting, playing on everything that Stevie Nicks means to us. I also particularly loved seeing the theramin in use. The mystery of who will be the next supreme keeps me intrigued. I started this season feeling it didn't quite meet up to the first two seasons, but I now feel it's every bit the equal, and if they come up with a mind blowing finale, it may well be the best yet. |
It wasn't until I saw some idiot on Facebook proclaiming "Stevie Nicks cannot sing anymore" and "That was embarressing," that my thoughts on her role really coalesced.
Not only was her singing beautiful, it was brilliant, because they weren't presenting Stevie Nicks the popstar, they were presenting Stevie Nicks the witch, the CRONE, and she was weaving a magical spell, keening, crooning a literal spell, passing her magic onto the younger version of Stevie, and that was carried forth in the passing down of the shawl. Powerful. This was all very personal for me as I was transported back to the mid-70s when I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert, and of course they performed Rhiannon. This was long before the Cult of Stevie though. Back then, she was just the female singer in the band... |
NE, your thoughts are so eloquent - Can't really add much there outside of saying F that person for commenting on Nick's voice; they're missing the point and I think that you've really captured the magic of that scene.
I'm incredibly intrigued with who is the next supreme and I am absolutely in love with Fiona's love story as well as her attempt at making a Deal (such a horrifying yet sad scene at the same time) - It's also interesting to see her path parallel to the Potential Supreme's paths - It's a path of corruption and death - Really interested to see where this season goes. |

As for the rest of it, what can I say? I guess I shouldn't have been as shocked as I was at all of these developments considering the show has a habit of entering "bat-shit crazy" mode this far in. Nice to feel like characters are expendable again - though it was an interesting story dynamic bringing everyone back to life earlier on, it had the fault of removing much of the risk factor. HOWEVER, I must admit I'm not majorly bothered about the Witch-hunters. Fearing it'll all boil down to a magic vs guns firefight. Sure it might be an interesting spectacle but what I love so much about AHS is the way simple scenes of dialogue have such power. The Season 2 finale was a masterstroke for just that reason. |

Really? Who is the next supreme then?

Misty getting buried alive though -- that's pretty messed up. Also, in general, I just don't think this season is as scary or shocking as the last two. There have been a few moments that compete -- episode 1 was straight brutal. Regardless, I still love the show and look forward to each episode. |

Really? Where's Queenie then? Plus, I think you guys are missing the point. They're exploring the concept of immortality, and the effects it would have on the soul. I loved the bit where the voodoo god couldn't make a bargain with Lange because she had nothing to bargain with. |
I didn't think much of that version of Rhiannon either... pretty badly off key in parts.
The second song she did sounded better and you could tell the first one was a bit messed up. But yeah no biggie it's just an opinion. Quote:

You guys are probably right, but I'm enjoying the ride. I try to not have expectations about things, and just see where they go.

Just because we don't like the way something is playing out doesn't mean were not getting the point. I understand that's what they're doing but its getting repetitive and boring. Its still good just lacking something and I personally don't find it as good as the other seasons. |

Well, you can't really explore the concept of immortality without some characters that are immortal. Does it have less "impact" when the apparent death of a character turns out to not be final? Sure, in one traditional sense, but the death means something different in the long run. :scared to death:
This show has never done things the traditional way. They've always twisted things around and they're doing it again this season. And they have addressed the issue of Zoe being the supreme. I can't recall the exact scene, but it was in an early episode, and ever since then the others have been trying to prove they're the next supreme. Zoe is a shrinking violet, so she doesn't push the issue. You guys may be right that she will be revealed as the one in the end. If so, I'll see how they handle it. The finales have tended to be a mess. We'll see what happens this time! |
I hope they sew Queenie and Delphine together ::big grin::

Perfect! |
You're right about the finales being a mess. I thought both seasons really dropped the ball in that regard. Here's hoping this one doesn't.
|
I'm currently working my way through season 1, but I for one really enjoyed the season 2 finale. Though it's a crude reduction, for the sake of argument let's say that a TV series such as this is like a very long film. In this respect, many (not all) films feel the need to give us that final closure scene, which is how I found Season 2's ending. The penultimate episode gives us the big thrills, the finale ties up the loose ends. Whilst sometimes it's nice to leave things open/not draw it out, Ryan Murphy has addressed how it's necessary to treat TV characters differently due to the attachments we form with them.
In any case - the last episode was...strange. Not keen on the apparently easy solution to the witch hunter problem. Whilst I didn't want a big shoot out, this was a tad too simple. Perhaps it was to show LaLaurette and Fiona's descent into true evil, but quite frankly I hardly think that's already been well established! Delphine's return to sickness is a bit eh. I was enjoying her development, and this particularly undoes the power of the crying head scene. I must say, whilst I appreciate NE's argument about it being an interesting exploration of immortality, it HAS reduced the stakes. I mean, okay, the main characters - but now Queenie's back, Spalding keeps showing up and the fucking Axeman seems to be just living a normal life off on the music scene. Similar to how I feel with season 1 at the moment and the ghost aspect - if almost everyone (Addy WAS a sad and powerful moment) can come back it's tough to fear too much for them. I mean, no, you might not want your favourite character to become a ghost, but let's face it - as an audience member, we MAINLY care about an old favourite dying because it now means their absence. If they're still present, we're still placated with continual exposure to their character. Season TWO had stakes. |
Yah, this season is really running hot and cold. The two previous episodes I really enjoyed. This one was just, as you say- strange.
|
The one thing I got confused about this series was.... why did they end up drowning Nan? Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter?
|
Now I see why everyone has been saying the last episode was strange - it definitely was strange! And the camera angles were making me dizzy! LOL
|
Somehow once again like the other seasons I'm losing interest in this show. And I thought I would own this season too. I guess only a few episodes are left. But too much stuff happens just to happen.
|
I enjoyed this week's episode more than the previous one. I'm looking forward to the finale'. IMO at this point I think they'll pull off some surprising twist. I'm not convinced Chloe is the next supreme. Anything could happen. Lange could get resurrected and take back control. Bates could execute a power play and take over. So could Basset. Or nobody becomes supreme. Or they all rule as a council. Anything.
Even the stylish red haired theremin player could wind up supreme. Whatever happens it's bound to piss off some people and satisfy others. Some will say they dropped the ball and the season was a mess. Some will love it. |

Not liking this season. Too many inconsistencies, characters coming back from the dead and endless back stabbing. For a show that show that should be showcasing female empowerment, it sure is making all the girls come across as power hungry untrustworthy bitches.
This season has been more about Jessica Lange than any of the others and I'm really getting tired of her character. Honestly its like watching The Jessica Lange show. Her death last episode was way too anticlimactic and since Ryan Murphy has such a hard on for her, there's no way she's not coming back. My prediction is Fiona cones back and kills all the girls like in Cordelias vision and she wins. Boring. Either that or Nan will come back as the next supreme. Just my opinion. |
