Another toughy agreed but The Thing wins for me.

The Thing.............

metternich1815 04-02-2013 04:02 PM

It appears we already have a winner! Here were the results:

John Carpenter's The Thing: 6 (natedog722, sculpt, Anthropophagus, knife_fight, The Villain, and tiberius)

The Fly: 2 (MichaelMyers and dsmith87)

The Blob: 0

Thus, The Thing has crushed its competition and is the winner!

Personally, it would be between The Fly and The Thing, which were both phenomenal masterpieces directed by two great horror movie directors (David Cronenberg and John Carpenter respectively). But, ultimately I would choose The Thing because it is my all-time favorite remake and is an even more brilliant film than the Fly, but the Fly is very close behind it.

Indeed, I would hazard that this may be the most difficult competition The Thing faces the rest of the tourney. Clear path to the finals IMO.

The Stuff...

ntillemans 04-02-2013 10:04 PM

Videodrome.

The Stuff was great...but, still, my vote is for Videodrome.

_____V_____ 04-03-2013 05:05 AM

Chalk me up for Videodrome as well.

For the previous match, I would have gone for The Thing. The Fly's remake is special, but The Thing is doubly special and one of my favorites.

realdealblues 04-03-2013 05:58 AM

While I do love The Stuff, I'll throw a vote to Videodrome as well. That movie is further out there than the nearest Quasar...

Anthropophagus 04-03-2013 06:19 AM

Videodrome,easily.The Stuff is pants.

cheebacheeba 04-03-2013 09:17 AM

Videodrome.
I think the stuff is one of the shittiest "horror" films I've ever seen personally.

MichaelMyers 04-03-2013 09:47 AM

Quite a comeback!

roshiq 04-03-2013 10:34 AM

Videodrome

metternich1815 04-03-2013 12:15 PM

It appears we have a surprise winner (in that the results dramtically shifted from one to another)! Here were the results:

Videodrome: 6 (ntillemans, V, realdealblues, Anthropophagus, cheebacheeba, and roshiq)

Twilight Zone: The Movie: 1 (MichaelMyers)

The Stuff: 4 (natedog722, The Villain, horrorfangirl66, and tiberius)

Thus, Videodrome came out of nowhere for the win. What a comeback!

I have never seen Twilight Zone: The Movie, but some really good directors directed segments of the film. I also have never seen Videodrome, but I heard it was really good (in fact, i just added it to my dvd queue for Netflix, so I should watch it soon). I probably would have voted for The Stuff because it was a really good movie, which both satired consumerism in the 1980s and parodied The Blob at the same time. This film is not in any way to be taken seriously, this is part of the charm. I'm not sure if it is better than Videodrome because I have not seen it, but it was still really good nonetheless.

Tough...two of my favorite films pitted again.

Poltergeist, by a whisker.

Straker 04-03-2013 12:55 PM

Gotta go with Demons.

horrorfangirl66 04-03-2013 02:31 PM

Poltergeist

Poltergeist

Sculpt 04-03-2013 04:06 PM

Poltergeist is on a different plane from those. Imagine the genius of Steven Spielberg producing a Toby Hopper film?

Did any really really like Amityville II: The Possession?

Got to give Demons extra credit for having Rick Springfield's 'Walking on the Edge' (great song, no radio play) on the soundtrack, with Idol's 'White Wedding'. You can't make this stuff up.

** by the way, you can watch the full movie: NIGHT OF THE COMMET on youtube free.

MichaelMyers 04-03-2013 04:14 PM

Demons, let's hope it can stage a comeback.

natedog722 04-03-2013 04:42 PM

tough call...but i'll go with Poltergeist, although I loved Amityville 2!!!!!

metternich1815 04-03-2013 05:18 PM

It appears we have a winner! Here were the results:

Poltergeist: 6 (V, horrorfangirl66, The Villain, sculpt, tiberius, and natedog722)

Amityville II: The Possession: 0

Demons: 2 (Straker and MichaelMyers)

Thus, Poltergeist crushed its competition and became the winner!

For me, this is an easy choice: Poltergeist. The reason being that it was a phenomenal film, not to mention a horror movie classic. I have heard a lot of good things about Demons, but I don't think it could ever be better than a classic like Poltergeist. I have not seen Demons (but I did order it from Netflix, so I will be able to watch it soon). Just a note, even though Amityville II is not a masterpiece, I still really enjoyed it. It had some charm to it, although it was nowhere near as good as the original and is the worst of the films here.
