the Exorcist is, in my opinion, the best horror film ever made based merely on my belief that, even if you took out all elements of horror, or the devil, or whatever, it would still be a good movie. I think it is almost obscenely well-written with the characterization being on a par with any of the great dramas. But, if we are allowed to include horror hybrids, I would have to say my favorite is Nightmare Before Christmas because like my friend Amy says, "If you can't identify with Jack Skellington, who CAN you identify with?"

NOES 7,1 and texas chainsaw massecre and friday the thirteenth

ginger snaps, and candyman 3, were my fav.

the exorcist in my opinion

I don't like The Exorcist because I just don't find little girls swearing at people and puking on them very scary. Have to agree with Beetlejuice where that one's concerned. Maybe if I wasn't such an atheist it'd be more scary.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) Real people in a real fucked up situation that draws you in with not only the direction but one hell of a schizo soundtrack. I don't care what that fuckwit Michael Bay says about his queer arse remake it just doesn't come anywhere near the original or even the second one for that matter. The Crazies freaks me out as well because out of any horror I've seen it's the one most likely to happen. Especially in the times we occupy now. But asking for the best horror ever is like asking what your favourite toy was as a child. |
To me, talking about the "best" horror film is different than talking about the "scariest." It includes scariness, certainly, but isn't limited to that one aspect. That's why I chose the Exorcist (including the re-released version with the deleted scenes).

I shall say
Finding one movie and being able to seperate it from the rest and trying to comprehend why it out does all the others is an open question that will be seldom answered staright by a true horror buff with a broad taste.
Many movies have fully completed what they set out to do. The original Halloween, TCM, DOTD (Dawn I mean) and Suspiria are just a handful of movies that are (in a word) perfect. "What would you prefare?" would be an easier question but still hard. Top ten best ever horor movies is very hard not the order they go in just deceiding the ten-1 is crazy talk for me. |
+1(sorry its off-topic, just taking back what some asshole mod took from me)
