I couldn't really figure out why I was disappointed in the reveal, but you just hit the nail on the head - Totally agree.

Nini_luv5 11-28-2011 04:33 PM

i felt like i already knew who it was... the show really led to it being Tate early on.

TheWickerFan 12-02-2011 12:36 PM

Yeah, that geeky kid being the latex-clad rapist was quite disappointing.

Still, the show remains pretty unpredictable and quite strong. I really enjoyed this week's episode.

hammerfan 12-02-2011 01:24 PM

I've been watching it on Hulu, so I'm a week behind. Just watched last week's episode today.

neverending 12-02-2011 02:07 PM

I just realized I forgot to watch the damn thing again this week...

ChronoGrl 12-07-2011 05:53 PM

It was a good one (though, really, I sound like a broken record because I genuinely enjoy the show) - Definitely twisted. Wish I hadn't deleted it from my DVR menu; I'd be watching it again.

fortunato 12-08-2011 12:47 PM

Well, I think this week's episode was probably the best so far. It had just the right mix of crazy genre stuff and actual drama, cleverly blended together. I hope the show stays just like this. I really loved the reveal [spoilers] of Violet being dead. It was fairly obvious beforehand, but it was still a shock the way Tate tried to keep it a secret, and then with her realizing it. [/spoilers] It was just a very tense and fascinating way to show the twist. Also, the scene with Larry's charred, glowing family was one of my favorite in the show yet; it was strangely compelling and wonderfully surreal. Definitely impressed with this episode, and I hope to see this quality maintained (although at this point, I think it's clear how tenuous the quality of this show is).

neverending 12-08-2011 01:12 PM

Yah I had several "holy shit!" moments during this episode. Impressive.

Nini_luv5 12-09-2011 11:26 AM

***SPOILER ALERT***

I absolutely loooved the last 2 episodes, they were the absolute best in my opinion. I really liked how their answering all the questions really instead of letting them carry on for the next season.

i think that if there ends up being a second season, i think that the premise will be what happens with Vivians twins and the suspicious that one of them will be the Anti- christ. i think thats just about as far as the season can go.

I really have a feeling that this show wont go past having a second season because honestly how long can leaving that house take?.... well besides all of the bodies there lol

I think that the father should just have his revalation about Violet and just take Vivian out of the institution, high tail it out of there and call it a day. i really cant see this show going past this season since all of the question have mainly been answered.

But we shall see...

Yeah, I think that's the major concern with this show. It could easily fizzle out at any time. I think its longevity lies in how much the creators are willing to adapt and change the framework into the second season. The amped-up mania of this show notwithstanding, we can only suspend our disbelief for so long about them still living in that house. Plus, every episode seems to add at least one more ghost, so who knows where this show will end up?

neverending 12-09-2011 01:25 PM

Wel, it could be they all end up ghosts and the next season we find a new family moving into the house.

Nini_luv5 12-09-2011 06:33 PM

i never thought about that... that would be interesting to see

Haha, exactly. That's what they might have to do.
I was also really impressed with Taissa Farmiga's performance in this episode.

Elvis_Christ 12-10-2011 02:55 PM

^^ Totally. Taissa Farmiga really gave a solid performance.

Great episode. I was losing a little bit of interest in the show and thought it was fizzling out (the last shitty reveal made me lose some faith) then BAM they hit me with a pretty cool twist (that was sort of obvious when I think about it but it still came as a surprise).

I'm with you. I was starting to lose interest with the episode or two before this week's. But this one was so clever and well done that I can't wait for next week's. If they could keep the show at this level, it'd be amazing.

Nini_luv5 12-11-2011 03:06 PM

i was wondering why she hadnt been really involved in the last few episodes. i was starting to wonder if they forgot about her....

Hopefully they will. It's a show that could slide either way. I can see them letting it get to OTT to take seriously at some point... but then that's part of what I like about it so much. Quite a trashy soap opera at times but so entertaining.

fortunato 12-15-2011 08:20 PM

Pretty good episode last night. Nothing spectacular (although I thought Ben's dramatic scenes were actually rather well-done and effective, as opposed to, say, vigorously masturbating while crying), but a good lead up to the two-hour finale. I also just read that the show was supposed to feature a new cast every season, and their struggles trying to deal with and live in/leave the house. So the fact that Vivien is also dead is a bit disappointing, because it seems like they're abandoning that idea, and slowly shrinking the universe of this show. I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing, but I do think it will make keeping the show compelling a bigger challenge.

neverending 12-15-2011 08:51 PM

Did I call it or what??

I have to say that I actually thought the last two episodes were brilliant... I really did like the reveal about Violet (Mark anticipated it but, honestly, I didn't see it coming until she couldn't leave the house).

As for the last episode with the birthing scene, utter brilliance - I like how corporeal, sad, and lonely these ghosts are - Makes it a lot more "realistic" and different than other ghost stories that I have seen on film. And the concept of all of the ghosts coming together to deliver the baby - So incredibly and delightfully macabre. The end itself made my heart absolutely break.

I agree with NE - I think that that's the only direction that they can go in... And I think it's a good direction; I like the idea that next season will bring in a new family. Mark and I have been discussing this possibility pretty early into the show (essentially all I could think was, "Geez! Why the HELL won't they leave the house?! I don't know if I can suspend my disbelief that they would stay in that house." - I figured that the only way they could dispel my fears was to move a new family in... And if they all die, well, there's an avenue for our new family). I think it would be fantastic.

I love this show. I absolutely do. I didn't really feel a lull or lose interest as others stated - I think that it kept a good swift pace and didn't dwell too long... But at the same time it has overarching story arcs. It's an incredibly well-done show. I hope it keeps it up.

Me too, for sure. That scene, despite still being really crazy, showed a level of restraint that is rare on this show, and that made it really powerful.

Elvis_Christ 12-19-2011 04:41 PM

Great scene definitely. Quite surreal and totally macabre like Chrono mentioned. Looking forward to the finale.

ImmortalSlasher 12-21-2011 10:15 AM

Tonight's the finale. I wonder how things will end for this family. I have a feeling, as with most good ghost stories, that a character won't make it out alive.

newb 12-22-2011 04:26 AM

well.....not sure where this show is going next year. A new family moves in and the "good ghost" will just scare them out. [ Beetlejuice,Beetlejuice,Beetlejuice] Could get boring....kinda think the writers shot their load already on this one. Will just have to wait and see.

neverending 12-22-2011 09:44 AM

Yah, I was thinking Beetlejuice as I watched it as well...

TheWickerFan 12-22-2011 10:18 AM

Well, there is the matter of the child. It could go in a completely different direction. I'm pretty optimistic.

They could re-name the show ---Dexter: The Early Years

I will say though.....if Jessica Lange doesn't get an Emmy...something is wrong

ImmortalSlasher 12-22-2011 10:36 AM

I don't think I will watch the show next season, if it gets renewed. They ran out of surprises and twists and now we are left with the kid. Or the good vs bad ghosts. I was surprised how quickly the one character's fate was resolved in the finale. It was a good show though.

i agree. i really dont know how to feel about the finale... i feel like everything was resolved and there really isnt much for the story to go off of anymore other than turn in to a television rendition of The Omen.

I think another season would kill the greatness of the first season.

Elvis_Christ 12-22-2011 03:10 PM

Caught the finale last night. I was expecting all hell to break loose with perhaps a glimpse of the "darker energies" of the house that were talked about in some of the episodes. Couldn't help but think it was a bit weak but the Omen styled premise they've set up for next season looks promising.

This will still have plenty of surprises up it's sleeve don't worry about that.

hammerfan 12-23-2011 05:29 AM

Interesting. Be warned there ARE spoilers in the article.

Taking into account everything that article says, I would guess the next season will feature the baby, only a bit older, and that Jessica Lange will be back.

Suppose to be different stories every season. Some of the same actors may be back but as different characters. Looking forward to it.

However, the article also said this:

“There is a clue in the last three episodes where we re-say what the next season will be about.”
I'm telling you, that baby will be back, as a kid, Omen style.

That would be fine with me....Jessica Lange acted the shit out of that role.

ChronoGrl 12-24-2011 05:19 PM

I thought the finale was brilliant. Loved it. Totally brought the family's story to a great resolution.

Unfortunately I can't read the article on the iPhone (it's asking me for a password), but I've already heard that next year will be a new horror story... A new American horror story, if you will. ;)

Sounds like Jessica Lang and the kid will be back, which makes sense (one horror story ends and a new horror begins), so that's exciting to me. Hopefully they'll move away from the house, focus on the demon kid trope, and weave in other horror tales.

Even if they start with a completely new tale and reuse the same actors, that's exciting to me too. The Demon Kid story can end right there (and leave it open) and I'll be just as happy.

Either way... Looking forward to it. I like that they are planning something fresh next year; that's smart to me. Best show on TV this year in my opinion.
