romero!

after you watch that. watch dawn of the dead and day of the dead back to back! yeah that's what i call a good day!

JoethePlumber 10-30-2004 12:10 PM

Should you get it? Erm if you like Zombies yeah. It is slow paced and in black and white (if you consider lack of colour a bad thing that is) but nothing can detract from this classic that has a truly powerful and original ending.

MichaelMyers 10-30-2004 05:18 PM

A staple of the horror genre.

filmmaker2 10-30-2004 06:37 PM

Yeah! Buy it!

There is that marvelous special edition of "Night of the Living Dead" from Image Entertainment. The transfer is THX, its audio is enhanced in 5.1 surround, and it has a HUGE truckload of special features, including two commentaries. I can't recommend it more! I bought it once, and showed it to a friend, who loved the transfer so much he was drooling; so I gave it to him; and a few months later I was missing the thing, so I bought the damn thing again.

Regarding the soundtrack, quite often I have watched versions of films where the sound has been "remixed," and have been less than pleased with the results--overenthusiastic sound editors have a tendency to add extra stuff, extra effects and so on. And usually, the soundtrack comes out hardly resembling the original thing you grew up with.

(Case in point: that one reissue of "Halloween" a few years ago with re-recorded music tracks and all kinds of additional sound effects that weren't present in the original version. Sorry, but while technically it was very nicely done, it was far too much of a departure from the original material, and it kinda ruined that version of the movie for me.)

This isn't the case at all with this remastered NOTLD. The stereo effects are subtle, tasteful and effective, and NO new sound effects have been added. It sounds great. It'll make you shiver!

massacre man 10-30-2004 06:41 PM

shouldn't you have asked before you rented it

tachii 11-05-2004 09:07 AM

i heard romero was adding a fourth instalment to the dead series, is this true?

urgeok 11-05-2004 09:57 AM

Land of the Dead..
Its filming in Toronto right now..

youshouldvknown 11-06-2004 11:50 AM

Its one of those movies that, if you're a horror fan, you should definately see it. By today's standards, it isn't really scary. When I first saw it, I was slightly disappointed just because I had always heard it was the scariest movie ever, and well.. that's not really the case.

But it's an awesome movie nonetheless and it paved the way for SO MANY awesome movies (Dawn and Day most notably). It's kind of like the Beatles. Most bands nowadays are either directly or indirectly (meaning they're influenced by bands who were influenced by) influenced by the Beatles.

I looked there and they never had it, and i looked at the stores in the mall to and they didn't have it. So i just gave up. Wal-mart had The Fog but not NOTLD.

urgeok 02-17-2005 11:52 AM

you have to be carefull if you're going to buy it from ebay ..
there are a ton of different extremely cheap versions out there.
i believe it is public domain now - meaning that anyone can produce and sell it. usually really shitty transfers.

look for Anchor Bay - they are a well known company that sell top notch horror titles - great quality and usually cool extras.

if you arent fussy on quality - try to get it in a horror collection ..

there are a lot of public domain collections floating around .. from 10 to 50 different titles ... all old titles but some are really good.

you almost always see Carnival of Souls, House on Haunted Hill, The Last Man on Earth ... etc ... included.

that way you wont be buying a $1.50 dvd for $5.00 and paying $5.00 for shipping and handling..

Tat2 02-17-2005 11:58 AM

I have several copies of the Night of the Living Dead on DVD. Check the Horror collections that have three or movies together. Look for these:

Trio of Terror (Noseferatu, The House on Haunted Hill, Night of the Living Dead) - Bought at Walmart in the bargin bin for $5.50

Horror Classics #2 (Christmas Evil, The Ghost, Night of the Living Dead, The Snake People, Don't Look in the Basement, House on Haunted Hill, The House on the Edge of the Park, Werewolf in a Girls Dormatory) - Bought it at Best Buys for $5.99

Horror Classics Collection (Creature From The Haunted Sea,
Dementia 13, The Corpse Vanishes, The Vampire Bat, Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, Nightmare Castle, The Human Monster, Night of the Living Dead, White Zombie, Revolt of the Zombies) - Bought at Suncoast. Can't remember how much.

FYI:D

I got "Carnival of souls, The apeman, Mesa of lost women" for 0,01 pound + £3.00 for shipping. I was just looking for "Carnival of souls" and thought it was a pretty sweet deal even though i had never seen or heard of the other two. And maybe i never will?

barbra 02-17-2005 02:28 PM

I have like 4 copy's that people keep giving me, I wish they would give me a few more of the savini remakes then I could open my own zombie store, anyways, if you want a copy I would be happy to sell you one for a pack of smoke or a joint or $5 or something. my email is [email protected]

ClassicHorror 02-21-2005 12:33 PM

Great film, not sure how many copies I have.

The Mothman 02-22-2005 07:05 AM

this film is real easy to find.

Hell, if I found Dead-Alive Unrated version at F.Y.E. I'm sure u can find this somewhere

ningenmanga 02-25-2005 12:40 PM

I did a review of NOTLD in light of the public reaction 9/11 back in 2001 fro another website. It's a little dry, but I think pretty interesting. I thought I'd repost it here for your perusal and enjoyment. I was going to post it here in the forums, but it's too long. I'd link to it (it's archived on my own personal site), but I fear the anti-spamming gods.

You don't need to go online to find it.

Just look for horror sets, you'll find this in any horror set, well most of them.

bloody_ribcut 03-19-2005 08:54 PM

look in the pawn shops, sometimes crackheads pawn there dvd's and end up losing them for a measily ten dollars. youll be able to grab it for a good seven.

horrorlair 03-20-2005 05:36 PM

Night of the Living Dead is in the public domain. Just go to the internet archives and download it.

Here is the link
