Modern horror ?
Hi for me i watch mostly 70s -80s horror , i find horror in the last 10 yrs a bit of disappointment . Although i did enjoy switchblade romance.
Post some good movies from the last 15 yrs here. Cheers |

Thats kinda sad, probably means the value of them will eventually go up, start collecting now i guess!
I only have one VHS movie, I, Zombie, which my machine ate before i even got to watch it. |
sleep away camp movies
|
italian euro crime movies
I know this off topic a bit but i was wondering which ones where the best of this genre so i can add them to my collection.
Thank you |
I'd be keen to hear some recommendations too. I watched Revolver last year and thought it was great and have been wanting to check out some more stuff.
http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/cov...1/revolver.jpg The Blue Underground edition is excellent as usual. Haha if I had shitloads of money I'd buy there whole catelogue! |
I've got a bunch of horror VHS some flicks are better on that format while others are cut/terrible quality transfers. But 9 times outta 10 the cover art totally kills the DVD releases. I dig how they just put a lot more effort into the releases back then.
The photos don't really do them justice but check out these cool holographic covers for Maniac Cop and The Gate: http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...t/DSC00905.jpg |
I'm guessing you've heard of My Bloody Valentine, The Prowler, Maniac and The Burning Nicklord1? I left them out because they are pretty well known.
Slaughter High is one of my favorites too. |
If Hatchet is one of the "best" from the last 15 years the genre is in a lot of trouble :)
Some flicks of the top of my head that haven't been mentioned: House Of 1000 Corpses Ginger Snaps Mordum Sleepless Gutterballs I'm long overdue in checking out Let The Right One In |
For a while I refused to go to dvd. I had so many vhs I didn't want to have to buy them all over again...But my boyfriend ended up getting me A nightmare on Elm street box set and a dvd player the christmas before last. Now I have quite a collection on dvd. Sadly I got rid of all of my vhs had about 40 movies and sold them at the Record exchange and got 4 bucks out of them. I was moving though and wanted to get rid of things I didn't need anymore.

I think movies that rely upon the dark and atmospheric scenes are cool in vhs , try watching say the thing and halloween on vhs then dvd .
P.s Elvis whats the gate about |

|
It's about a couple of kids who open a gateway to hell by playing a record backwards. Great cheesy fun!
|
Cool keen to read it and check some shit out you think is killer.
|
Fulci's Naples Connection isn't bad - nasty and violent.
I like Blazing Magnum too. |
i have seen the fulci movies but will make a mental note of blazing magnum.
Have you guys heard of a uk cop show series called the sweeney which is about the armed robbery police squad , worth a watch as its realistic etc. |

Oh yeah, VHS is awesome for this kind of stuff!
I have a bunch of 'em, but they're mostly just mainstream stuff. The only REALLY cool one that I have is Suspiria...pretty sure its ancient, from the look of the box. I bought it at a second hand shop for about $2, and it's easily become one of the highlights of my collection. |
problem is VHS tapes are so big, plus prone to damage due to the very nature of how they play. plus they oxidize and go to hell after a while.
i understand the appeal of grain - but i also appreciate seeing a movie without tracking problems and actually being able to see what the hell is going on when someone's being chased through the woods with an axe - or in a dark dorm hallway. if i wanted suspense without being able to see anything - i'd listen to old radio programs :) |
do VHS tapes have regions like DVDs?

USA/Canada and japan/Korea us NTSC. I have 100's and 100's of old VHS ex rentals - I wish i could find the pics i had of em. They're all up in the attic at the moment. I have some pretty cool/rare ones ANTRO/ABSURD/LOVECAMP 7 etc etc. I love the old 'Video Nasty' cover art. |
if you ever have time ferox you take some pics of those rare movies they are always a laugh to look at. Plus there worth loads too , you should see how much they are worth and get them insured

Indeed. Nick, you need to learn to read between the lines. Coz we're f'kn deep that way. |
How is asking about horror movies irrelevant? I'd rather read threads like this than all the hot or not pics with dirty old men drooling over them and LOLcat bullshit.
